I just purchased a 2095 which replaced a Denon 3200 (moved it to the bedroom). This was my second purchase (the first was a Sony 80es (returned it) which seemed to be muddy and lacked expansion, dts, and had an annoying trait that did not remember input settings once you switched inputs). Had the 2095 for only 2 days now
This is my first Yamaha in over ten years. It is quite pleasant to listen to (light jazz) and very clear. The mid range is a bit bright and the bass is nice and tight. Build quality is very good except for the somewhat flimsey rear panel and poor quality speaker binding posts. (I can live with that)Setup was quite easy although adjusting the effect and center channels was a bear since you cannot stop long enough to see and readjust the effect (I use a db meter), unless I missed something. Also, my understanding is that the remote will not able to teach the new Sony multi remote (2000 model) and since the Yammy remote isn't the unit of choice, I am looking again after returning the Sony remote along with the 80es Note: I am still breaking in this unit, and the my main music source is an older Rotel 955ax which I can't bear to part with.

This puppy really shines in Multi channel mode for movies. My Sony S-7000 DVD sounds amazing (especially using som of the dsp modes) . The DSP modes are a bit more realistic than the Sony was to my ears. In fact I used to tire quickly using the dsp in the Sony, but the Yamaha is easy on the ear.I will use this unit about 75% video and 25% music.

Considering my usage and the fact that I got a local retailer down to $1200 (after alot of moaning)I do not think I could have made a better choice Actually is a 4.5 in my book.

I have this receiver and it sounds great. This receiver is mated with all klipsch speakers and you would swear the concert is in your living room, when watching a movie I would believe that the dragon In Dragonheart was my pet. Highly recommended receiver, you owe it to yourself to look at this receiver, there isn't a receiver at any price that can touch it.

When I wanted to upgrade to a home theater system from my tried and true yet ancient Marantz pre-amp, Model 15 power amp, and model XX tuner, I didn't know where to start. I listend to many different manufacturers' home theater receivers, but was always dissapointed with how they played music. It wasn't until I auditioned the Yamaha 2095 that found a unit with the quality and power to play both home theater and music in a truely satisfactory manner.
I purchased the 2095 from Uncles Stereo for $1249. They were plesent to work with and all equipment I ordered arrived double boxed and in perfect order. They even through in cables. I have owned the 2095 for a little over one month now, I continue to be pleased. The unit has more than enough power to drive my favorite speakers, and it is always musically clean and acurate. While not exceptional, the turner is more than adequate for listening to the stations available in my local area. I was most surprised to find that I really enjoy the various DSP sound effects, though I still find them of limited value while listening to music. The performance of 2095 in 5.1 mode is exceptional. I have not enjoyed the performance in 7.1 mode though. This may be due to my use of lesser quality speakers for the front effects channels. The remote contol works well, but I am looking forward to replacing it with the Marantz remote. Overall, I don't think one can find a better value in a home theater receiver. To outperform this unit, one must spend considerably more money for separates, or an integrated unit like the DSP-A1. I am very satisfied with this receiver and would not hesitate to purchase it again.

Strength:

Great receiver!! Awesome clarity, number of DSP programs, DTS, S-Video switching.

Weakness:

Heavy!! No THX certification.

I recently upgraded from Yamaha RX-V595. The 2095 has amazing clarity. My front speakers (B&W 603 S2) sound more
'live' and open with this receiver both in music and HT. For the price this is an incredible value!!

Strength:

Clear sound, enough oomph to scare away the neigbours, solid build quality, ample potential for expansion

Weakness:

Remote flimsy, onscreen menu's not very intuitive

This is one awsome piece of kit. I've listened to quite a lot of amplifiers while I was checking out the hometheater scene. This was the one for me. It has clear sound, good base reproduction and a lot of DSP programs to suit almost anyone. I've had it for about a 3 days and I'm still configuring my system. I am running a Pioneer Dv-535 DVD player, a pair of Tannoy Mercury M5's as mains, Mercury M4's at the rear with an Tannoy Mc center and a Yamaha Sw-160 Sub. Even at this stage it sounds absolutely awesome, considering I'm still configuring it. The only trouble I currently have is getting the sub to work. It works on my DTS DVD discs but for some or other reason not in Dolby 5.1. Strange. I heard the presence of the sub while listening to 1492 by Vangelis but not while playing my THX certified or Dolby 5.1 DVD titles. Could anyone assist me with this problem? As I've mentioned, this ia an damn great piece of hardware and if you're looking for something special in the receiver-amp line - LOOK NO FURTHER.

Strength:

Cinematic sound.
DSP modes esp. Adventure mode for movies; Jazz Club for music.

Weakness:

Not THX-certified.

After slaving for a year, I saved enough to start on my first home theatre system. I already had my eyes on KEF Q series (must be something about their Uni-Q drivers...). For amp/receiver I chose Yamaha because of its well-known pedigree for home cinema.

I auditioned the RXV995 (gold). Wow! It sounded great. But looks a little too cluttered. The RXV2095 looks classier, and I just had to auditoned its 7 speaker-mode. The dealer knows my budget and warned me about auditioning the 2095- the temptation wd be too great. He was absolutely right! I was floored! The 7-speaker setup gave a wider soundstage, greater depth and a more cinematic sound.

I just had to get it. Went for broke and bought it. No regrets since, well maybe one - my wife nags me everytime I turn the volume past 9 o'clock. Guess I never factored that into my decision.

Strength:

Cinematic sound; 7-channel mode; agility. DTS-equipped & several useful DSP modes esp. Adventure mode for action movies and 'Jazz Club' for vocal-based music.

Weakness:

No THX. Not ideal for music.

I had initially planned to get the RXV995(Gold) to drive the Q-series (Q55/Q95C/Q15/60S/REL Strata II). But the 2095 was too attractive to resist. I had to audition it despite my dealer's warning that I could easily be persuaded to exceed my budget and go for the 2095. He was absolutely right!
Playng the DVD Dragonheart DTS, I was floored when I switched to the 7-channel mode. THe 2 extra front effects speakers actually contributes significantly to the front soundfield. The soundstage widens, an extra dimension is added to front dialogue. You gotta hear it to believe it!

Tried it with The Rock & Top Gun. Effects steering is excellent. Missiles whizzed past my ears. Amidst the machine gunfire, I could even hear the empty cartridges hitting the concrete floor!

Forget the 995. DSP-A1's too costly. This is the real deal!
Buy with confidence!

Strength:

All features are great

Weakness:

Of course the remote but it is very functional

I have commented on this forum before and love this receiver. I recently purchased a Dolby Digital Adapter for my Dish Network satellite system and connected via fiber optic cable to the 2095 receiver. In Linear PCM audio format the sound was greatly enhanced over normal analog connections. Recently Dish Network has started broadcasting on movie channels in AC-3 Digital Dolby. What
a difference, between day and night. Movies such as Deep Impact, Titanic and Deep Rising are like being at the theater with the 7.1 speaker configuration. Speaker matching and placement are important but expensive speakers are not necessary.
In the near future around the year 2001 DVD home recorders that record DVD R, DVD R/W, DVD R+W, whichever format wins, DVD AUDIO and recorder carousels will be available in AC-3, DTS and other formats. I can hardly wait to have a DVD recorder/multimedia player, with most of my system connected fiber optic.
We do live in interesting times and this receiver will continue to be adaptable for future technologies.

I've owned this reveiver for six months, and although there's nothing I can say that hasn't already been posted here, I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring by saying how completely satisfied I am with it. I listen to a lot of music in just the stereo mode and find it simply fabulous. For home theatre, again it does a great job, as well. I've found for both home theatre and surround music modes (DSP's), proper speaker placement is important to obtain the best it can deliver, so take the time to play around with your set-up. My main speakers are rated at 4 ohm, and this reveiver has no trouble driving them in the 8 ohm setting. I recently attended an audio show and talked with a Yamaha rep. about that very subject. He said that changing the impedance setting doesn't need to be done unless using more than one set of low impedance speakers (as mains) at the same time. As with any, its important to give this receiver sufficient ventilation. As for the big silver beast remote, well, I'm going to buck the trend on this one; I like it and have grown very comfortable with it. I say give Yamaha credit for trying something away from mainstream. My only concern is that there's certain functions on this receiver that can only be accessed through the remote. Hopefully Yamaha will always have some replacements on hand should a person need one. That one qualm aside, five stars all the way!
