Strength:

DSP modes, great surround and clean console.

Weakness:

Remote, difficult to navigate all of the functionality despite on-screen menus.

I've had the Yamaha 2095 for approx five weeks and I am very satisfied with the performance porvided when utilizing the Dolby 5.1 and DTS Surround functionality.. Great receiver for high-end A/V (especially DVD's) at a moderate price. Upsides: lots of optical audio inputs and s-video inputs, great DSP features (the different modes run from very echo-intense churches to great jazz-club and theater settings), and clean appearance. Downsides: remote should be re-vamped, and the on-screen menus should be more intuitive. The high weight of the receiver should be considered when selecting a rack.

I am currently running:

Paradigm Reference Series mains
Polk Center, back and powered sub
Panasonic 320 DVD
Panasonic s-VHS
Panasonic GAOO 36' Direct-view TV
Yamaha CDC-905 CD-changer

I am considering upgrading the remote to the Philips Pronto high-end programmable remote.

Strength:

Well equiped,user friendly,great sound,great style,well build,price.

Weakness:

Needs a decent Sub,noise in the CD analog input,D/A?

I bought the machine a month ago.Upgraded from the 2092.
It is a graet machine and excellent buy.I was in the market
for about 2 months.I listened to Denon,Onkyo and the DSP A1.After a lot of thinking decided to go for this reciver .After using it for a while I think I made the best choice.Few tips:Use an active sub and cut the low freq into the main speakers buy choosing small for main.It sounds better like that in stereo too.Use the 8 ohm speakers function even if you use less impedence speakers.Try different speakers cabeling - Yamaha seems to be sensitive to this.My "Transparent" cabels sounds great with it.
The local dealer claimes that the 2095 is using 24 bit 96kh
D/A although the manual states 20 bit 48kh.Does anyone nows anything about it?
This machine here ,is equiped with AC3 RF input, and cost 1/2 the price of the Onkyo 777 and 3/4 of the Denon 3300 can you belive?
Dont think twice,go for it and you will not be sorry.

Strength:

Absolute real home theater.

Weakness:

Well, the remote has been the target of most people reviewing it, but its totally Yamaha, and I like it.

I have owned the 2095 for over a year now. I had planned on buying the DSP-A1, until the sales person showed me this unit, for $1000 less. It has all the features I was buying the DSP-A1 for. In the year I have had this, I can honestly say, I am impressed with it every time I use it. I am running Klipsch KG 5.5's as mains, KLF-C7 for center, KSP-S6 for surround, and KSB 1.1 for the 7 channel effects. I also am running a 15" Klipsch sub for the main sub, and a 12" for my surround sub. This receiver orchistrates all 9 speakers into the most incredible home theater experience I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. I Just got a new Mitsubishi High Definition 55" television, and also enjoy a Yamaha DVD player. (Waiting a while for progressive scan DVD). I am impressed with the fact that, this receiver still has room to grow! One big reason I bought this one, was its ability to add axternal processors if needed. I had a pro-logic Yamaha before, and when digital 5.1 came to be, it was not upgradable, so there for useless. I cant say enough about the different dsp modes. I got this receiver fot mainly home theater use, but contrary to others opinions, feel it does an excellent job with music as well. For some reason, Yamahas sound "better" with Klipsch. I have had many mixtures of components, and this is round 2 for me with a Yamaha & Klipsch system. I have heard Yamahas through other brands of speakers, and it seems like you arent getting "everything" out of the source. Just an opinion. Anyway, for all the different brands out there claiming to be "the best" I will say (as will all of the other 200+ people who have reviewed this receiver) that this one is most definately the best. If you are in the market for a new receiver, dont spend more, dont spend less, get the RXV 2095, and I promise you no regrets.

DVD sounds amazing! I found an awesome place to buy dvd at http://consumer.20m.com

I've had this receiver for 2 months now and it has EXCEEDED all my expectations. I'm still learning what this baby can do, so I won't go into details. I consider myself an informed buyer therefore I'm confident I made the best purchase my $899 could buy. I've auditioned Sony ES, Denon, and Pioneer Elite. All of them were quite capable of providing superior enjoyment to most home theater systems. The Yamaha however, was/is the only one that raises my heart rate when I'm ready to turn it on. It hasn't disappointed me yet! When I've assembled all the pieces of MY home theater system together, I'll update...Stay tuned

Strength:

Warm, detailed sound. Multiple soundfields. Easy to use.

Weakness:

Remote is bigger than necessary, but usable.

I bought this unit strictly for video. I use A Krell for my music. I had been contemplating an upgrade to DTS and more power. When I stopped by The Good Guys, I went in to look at a Yamaha RXV 995 that they were closing out, when I saw they had a few of these left, new in the box. I did not even take the time to listen to it as they have a generous return policy. The only thing I dreaded was taking my A/V system apart to install this beast. Once that was accomplished, the games began. I have played several movies in both AC-3 and DTS. The sound difference from my 992 was very noticeable. More detail and a much warmer sound with added depth. I am sure as with all high end products, this will improve as it is broken in. I did look at simiar units over the past month, namely, Sony 555es(quality control issues), Denon 4800 (fan noise), Harmon Kardon 7000(again quality control issues) and the Marantz sr7000(my second choice). But after totally trouble free experience with the 992, I opted for the 2095. I did look at the replacement for this unit, the RXV3000, but I have no use or need for a rear center channel and not to mention the an additional $1000.00. If you can find any of these on closeout, it is well worth the money. You can enjoy it for a few years and then when the next latest and greatest A/V unit comes along, you will not lose your A** when you sell it. The rest of my system:

Mitsubishi 50" platinum big screen
JVC dvd
Panasonic s-vhs
Pioneer 709 laser disk
Mission 774 fronts and 773 center
M&K V175mkII sub
Kef rears

Felix,
If I am interpeting your question right, you would be wasting money on a
equalizer. An equalizer would be beneficial for a 2 ch. sound system to compensate for the room acoustics. In a Pro logic receiver with DSP profiles
you should be able to fine tune the speaker time delays and with the DSP of your choosing find the profile that sounds best to you.

I have listened to music on CD and FM radio and found that I like it better in surround sound than in 2 ch. mode. Through experimenting with the speaker time delays and setting the tonal controls flat. I chose the Rocky Club DSP profile on the RX-V2095 to give me the best sound for jazz. You can use the tonal controls to fine tune the music as well. The setup I listened to was in 7.1 ch. configuration. You may choose something different to your liking, it is subjective to the listener.

I hope this information helps.

Thanks,
