I'm very satisfied with the performance of this rx-v730 yamaha amp.I bought this unit december2006 upto now no any problems.Sound quality is superb and I'm using also yamaha 5,1 speakers.

My wife and I researched for six months before we made our purchase of this reciever. We wanted a good quality, durable reciever that we could keep for years. Well after our third move in two years it work the same as always, till the reciever just suddenly died with no warning. The repair shop said it was going to cost about $325 to $350 to repair it. We are very disappointed in its short lived proformence.

good power esp for home theatre in average size rooms. audio quality is good, very good for av reciever. dvd's will really come alive if youre upgrading from a cheaper older prologic unit nice brushed steel front looks like the business learning remote!

NO BLOODY COAX INPUT IN THE DVD INPUT GRRR ONLY OPTICAL- this annoyed me as i use my dvd player as my cd audio player as well to keep costs down. im running my dvd player through the cd input...small inconvenience i know but no coax in on the dvd channel? come on! i would have left out the rca inputs and only had coax pcm and optical, what cheap dvd player these days doesnt have digital/pcm out as well as rca audio?

to qualify my opinion, let me say i started out with an entry level technics av reciever, mission 701 bookshelf fronts, mission 70X center (missions about 3 yrs old)and some cheapo sony rears. i set the rvx730 up with those speakers and played some dvd movies,dvd music and finally some audio cds through my philips dvd player. all i can say is that it was a whole new experience and i realised i hadnt been doing the 701's justice with the cheap amp i previously used . the home theatre aspect was VASTLY improved. i was so impressed that i went out and bought new mission m74i's and chucked the 701's on the rear giving me mission all round. the rvx 730 now sounds STUNNING. home theatre is now quite an experience, im sure the neighbours hate it when we watch movies. the old technics amp had a powered sub channel which i had a 15" passive sub on. with the m74i fronts no sub is needed to get room shaking bass effects in movies down to about 40 hz. the amp in stereo mode driving the m74i fronts sounds good to me, very solid clear well defined sound ,havent been past -23db for music or home theatre.in prologic 2 music mode it is quite stunning(although a little processed sounding) but i prefer just the fronts for cd audio---call me a purist. also note, on the old technics unit i was forever tweaking the bass/treble---not so for the yamaha, i havent touched them..no need to sounds awesome with everything set neutral--just like a decent amp should.the unit also has a pre out which i may need in the future if purchasing a decent amp/s to biamp my new fronts "With DVDs the seperation is far better than the cheaper amp. I have to admit to having a better speaker setup though. Top Gun has the planes screaming around the room. Gladator and Das Boot are unbeleivable. The digital volume control takes a bit of getting used to. The amp has to be turned up when playing DVD's. The dynamic range of DVDs is that much greater and at -10db the voices are at normal level but when a cannon or depth charge explodes your ears also explode. Music is very loud at -15db and -25db is what I normaly set it to for CDs." id have to agree with all of this, ive had the cat streaking across the room frightened out of its wits when a movie suddenly erupted when the action kicked in after some dialogue(gf was less than impressed lol). marry this reciever with a decent pair of floorstanding fronts and for a mid price unit you wont be disappointed. when i bought it i was leaning towards a more powerfully rated and more expensive pioneer unit, but the salesperson said do yourself a favour, buy this, its better priced and has better cd audio quality and very good HT quality--he wasnt wrong. im using mine 50/50 for music and HT so i needed a compromise. pioneer great HT but not as great music. ive no complaints about the audio quality, even with my cheapo dvd player ive heard nuances in tracks ive listened to for years that ive never heard before...that speaks for itself. i liked the remote too, learning function works well with all my gadgets, altho some ppl seem to have issues with this.

The RX-V730 is a high class receiver in my view. The front pannel connection makes setting up something portible easy. The power is a high as well. 80 x 6 plus the 2 front effects are awesome. The On-Screen display is a pretty cool feature as well. You can control absolutly everything on the receiver that way. This is probably the best receiver I have.

This receiver rocks for the price. I love it to death. Features I really like are the complete ease of setup. This beats all receivers as far as ease is concerned. The amp is extremely clean up to volumes that I have no business listening to it at, I've taken it up extremely loud, and noticed that it does tend to get pretty bad at anything higher than -25dB, typical listening I do is at -45dB to -35dB. I am using Paradigm Studio/20's for mains, a Paradigm Stucio/CC center, Paradigm Phantom Rears, and a Paradigm PDR12 sub. Overall, for the price, I think it's the best buy because of its ease of setup, onscreen menus, and component vid. switching. (although, it will not pass an HD signal)

On my paradigms it has a tendency to get a bit bright, ok, so a lot bright, but I'm about to use it simply as a processor when I get my new acurus amp, so that should help things out. The power is sufficient, but it hurts a bit for music. One feature I would like to see is speaker level settings for each input, so that I don't have to adjust my subwoofer settings when I switch from tuner to CD to DVD.

Overall, I like this receiver a lot, read my other comments for more.

Various Integra Receivers, as well as several Kenwood Soverign Receivers. The Yamaha kills the Kenwoods in the setup and use department, Kenwoods are fairly non-intuitive when it comes to operation.

Excellent CLEAN and CLEAR sound. Plenty of sound modes (Cinema DSP). Easy to use Remote (Programming it is EZ). Flexibility on speaker settings (Can fine tune individual speakers). PRECISE volume control. Lots of S-Video and Optical I/O. Virtual 6.1 Matrix (Allows rear center to be used during playback of DVDs).

Not as many SPECIFIC I/O as other entry-mid level recievers (such as Sony STRDE885S - which has a GAME I/O). FM/AM tuning can be a pain at first. Bass/Treble tuning can be an inconvenience at times. No AUTO-SHUTDOWN (Reciever does not shut off by itself after a period of time). No light illumination on Remote.

First off, this unit is virtually the same as the RX-V630 with some minor additions such as Phono in/out, added feature on remote, etc. However, it is these minor additions that made me choose the 730 over the 630. I also looked at various recievers before making this final purchase. The speaker setup I have is the Energy XL series (XL-250, XL-150, and XL-C100). I initially bought the Panasonic SAHES100 but ended up returning it because I found the sound clarity to be ok at best (could not distinctly make out certain sounds). The Sony STRDE885S sounded clearer than the Panasonic. However, I found the sound modes to be fairly fake and not much difference between each other. Thus, I did more reviewing and finally bought the RX-V730, which has in no way let me down at all. It was the most expensive of the 3 recievers, but well worth the price. This reciever has in everyway delivered what it said it would deliver. And that is CLEAN and CLEAR sound. With a whole lot of functions that will keep you busy for quite awhile. The sound modes they offer using Cinema DSP are awesome. If u are looking for a EXCELLENT entry-mid level reciever and are willing to pay for it, you cannot go wrong with this one. Whatever you think you need you will find with the Yamaha RX-V730. Review the strengths to see why it is such a good buy. I gave it a 4 for value because it is an expensive high entry-mid level reciever. But worth every penny.

In looking for a new receiver I wanted one with plenty of digital ins so to serve my future needs but also be within a tolerable price point. The Yamaha RXV730 having a plethora of rear s-video and optical, also has a front set of s-video and optical (the rear has also a coaxial in and component in/in/out). Using Energy Take5+1 speakers with a Energy XLC100 front & center and this receiver produces great and rich sound in all its applications. The front display is not too busy/distracting and has all necessary lite-ups. Headphone listening offers great sound from music and balanced audio for dvd movies(no big pops or faded off sound). Volume control is very good for finding just the right level. I am overall very impressed with this A/V receiver.

My 2 choices were between the Denon or the Yamaha.I have owned Yamaha and Sony in the past,but I really enjoyed my yamaha.The Denon had good features but was a little pricey.After hours of research and listing comparisons I decided the Yamaha offered more quality for the buck than Denon.I have this unit hooked up to Cerwin VS-12'S up front Cerwin center,Infinity rear and Infinity sub.This thing ROCKS!! Shop around,you can find some good deals.I got it for 549.00 with a Toshiba DVD at Goodguys.

DD EX DTS ES remote is easy and useful optical and s-video inputs on front panel pro-logic II

As far as I can tell then only feature I would like to see on it is the ability to fine tune individual speaker levels
