Very nice piece of hardware; however, still does not compare to Denon's AVR-2700. Although the Yamaha includes DTS sound processing, I would audition this receiver very carefuly before purchasing it. For those who are thinking about purchasing this receiver from UNCLE'S in New York, make sure that they are authorized dealers for Yamaha hardware. If they are not, find out what kind of warranty are they giving you on this deal.

From the specs provided by Yamaha's website, this seems to be a wonderfulmodel. I checked with Nobody Beats Wiz in Manhattan and they told me that
this model may be available for retail in the early Nov.
So far the only thing I dislike about 795 is that you're going get a
pre-programmed remote. I prefer a learning remote, which is much more universal.
I can even teach such a remote to control my dog teaser.

I bought this receiver today, man this one is much better than the previous year. Not sound wise (5 watts don't do diddly) but the features are alot better. The only really annoying thing about it is that the input selector on the remote is a rotary dial type, that's on the side, and you can't see it in the dark. The remote is cool though, it has a slim design and it controls everything from tv's to dss. Another difference is there is no direct DSP Access on the front panel. Even though the DSP is 5-channel the 5.1 channel input will still bypass the DSP. I got the DTS Music Demo. disc and I fired it up, it sounded so great. I could easily test for channel bleeding (which it didn't have) and harmonic distortion. I then put in the DTS Demo DVD No.3, on Titanic the video and audio was outstanding, and I am looking forward to seeing a DTS Version of Titanic.

I just picked up this little gem over the weekend. The features are pretty packed on this beauty. Dolby Pro logic, Dolby Digital, DTS and a host of DSP surround modes. The remote is just fine for me. It controls my Receiver, TV, DVD, and VCR. Yeah, it could be better for operation in the dark, but it's pretty good overall. The slim design is nice. I can't give an opinion on the amplifier section cause I'm making full use of the preamp outs for all channels (which is a VERY BIG plus for me). Cosmetically, the unit is very attractive. Classic Yamaha black. You get alot of bang for the buck with this model. Well worth it.

I agree with JJ that Andy Kent is the worst guy at dealers. I have exactly same experience as JJ has with Andy Kent at Uncle's. He was really rude. I asked if they had any kind of "written warrenty policy". He just says "NO". How can I trust him and Uncle's without the warrenty Policy in written.

In my opinion, the RX-V795 is excellent. But I am looking for other mail order dealer than Uncle's. Can anybody advice?

Very good quality receiver. Highly recommended for HT enthusiast with low budget, beginners or just for those who want to upgrade their existing prologics. It included their 70mm DSP (not that we all care), but still cool. The remote control would have been nice if it's a learning remote instead of pre programmed. It doesnt really have a seperate s-video connection for DVD/LD (only for VCR and Aux-front). You would think that thats how you want to set up a good quality video source (DVD/LD) instead of just a composite video. The 6 channel input for future upgrade sort of balanced out the lack of number of s-video and other source inputs.

I just recently picked up the RX-V795. Upgraded from a low-end Sony receiver. Very, very impressed by the Yamaha sound. I am convinced the RX-V795 is a winner.
