Strength:
Sound, the power is hard to believe.
Weakness:
Remote This is my first A/V receiver. I had a Yamaha stereo receiver many years ago and loved it. I looked at the Denon 2800 and the Onkyo DS6767, but decided on the Yamaha after hearing it. After reading about the problems with the Onkyo, it was a much easier decision. I have no doubt that I will enjoy this receiver as much as I did my old Yamaha. Unbelievable sound. My wife even noticed. Similar Products Used: JVC |

Strength:
Power! and ALL the DSP settings, AC3, DTS.
Weakness:
To high on the highs (tweeters), remote is acceptable noe that the first time isused it. This products is to much for me! After dealing with a lot of reasearch to startup my own Home Theater, I was suppose to ger the 495a but when i got to the store the 795a was on sale with free sorround speakers. So I was conviced to ger the 795a instead. When I got home and had is setup, I was knocked over my feet with the power it delivered! I even felt that i should have bought the 495a instead since i have an average sized livingroom. But come to think of it the price was such a great deal. I really would recommend this products to any one interested in seting up a hometheater. Im really looking now for a much bigger fronts. Can anyone email me about what specs I should get for the front speakers particularly the wattage? |

Great reciever. I have owned several and this one is really a superior unit. Sound is excellent-clear and powerful. Only thing I was waiting for is the equivilent unit from Yamaha for the mass merchandisers for a better price-got mine from Sound Advice for $625-not bad but not great either. I figure to see a new model replacing the RX V1190 before long but I couldn't wait- I lost a channel on my old unit. Also picked up a set of Klipsch Quintet speakers with a subwoofer-really nice and compact. |

I have had this RX-V795a receiver for almost a week now, and I still cannot believe how good this thing sounds! This unit replaces two Onkyo TX-DS 575 units I purchased, both of which had a serious hissing problem in digital surround decoding, not to mention a very underpowered amp. The Yamaha 795a is the closest thing to perfect you will find for a $700 A/V reciever. The sound quality is out of this world. No matter how high I turn up the volume, it plays very clearly, with no noticable distortion or clipping. DTS and Dolby Digital surround modes are very dynamic, with no backround noise whatsoever. The DSP modes really do work (unlike most DSP modes on other brands, that just distort the source signal) and do a great job of making your living room sound like a state of the art movie theatre. In additon it has an onscreen display, bananna plug plugs for all channels, s-video inputs, preouts for all channels, switchable impedance so you can run all types of speakers, and four digital inputs (3 opitcal and 1 coaxial.) The build quality is top notch. Unlike other people who have a very strong hatred of the remote, I kind of like it. The remote fits very easily into the palm of your hand, and runs most any component out there. You have to spin a wheel to select which component you want to operate, as opposed to just hitting a button, but it really isn't any big deal. I bought the 795a for it's sound and build quality, not the remote. |

I have owned the Yamaha RX-V795 since Dec 1998. I read a lot of reviews in the audio review site before I spent my money. I chose the RXV795 because it has DD, DTS and an input for whatever system may come in the future. I was penny conscious or I may have bought the ASP1 because of the reviews. I am not sorry that I chose this system. I have it hooked up to NHT speakers and a 100 W Energy subwoofer. I paid less than $600 for the receiver a year ago when I ordered it from Uncle's in New York! All in all, my strategy was to buy the best system I can afford. Since the idea is to buy the best speaker for what you can afford, I opted for a $600 receiver, $2900 speakers, and the Panasonic K510 DVD. My next plan is to buy the Samsung 40" HDTV LCD. Buy a system that has DTS. I have compared the two and the DTS DVD's/CD's have a sort of high definition sound. It will only work if you use an optical connection. That is probably why it is so much clearer than anything else. Anyway, this Yamaha RX-V795 is a best value buy if you cannot afford the DSP1. |

Strength:
Powerful 85 watts to each channel,Dolby Digital and D.T.S. decoding, clarity of sound detail of vocals and effects.Multi-function remote to control all equipment.DSP modes.Light on volume control Knob.Clarity when playing cds.On screen display.Value for money.
Weakness:
Remote can be a bit challenging (only a minor gripe) I owned a Sony Receiver for the last 3 months and whilst a good receiver I began to notice a hissing background noise through my speakers only recently.I bought the Yamaha for £250 (rrp £600...discounted) at Dixons and having only owned it for a few days I am glad of the changeover. The rated power at 85 watts per channel is equally as powerful as the Sony's quoted 110 watts per channel as I TRIED BOTH under the same room conditions. Strength:
DSP Mode, Conservatively rated for its power output(85wpcx5). Efficient amp design (runs cool even at reference listening volume). Built in cooling fan.
Weakness:
Your neighbors will hate you. :) I've been using this for about six months and have never complain or dissatified except my neighbor. It is may first time to use a Yamaha brand for my audio gear and I tell you that it was worth the try. I've spent a considerable time researching for an av receiver(DENON, Onkyo, Rotel and Pioneer) before buying the Yamaha so I have an idea how they all sound and their capabilities. Anyway I'm not an audiophile since they don't usually consider economic reasons(spending thousands of dollars on cables only). I will divide may opinion from the following points of view: Similar Products Used: pioneer, denon |

Two days ago I bought the receiver after a very short time of consideration. I Just wanted it. I heard about the receiver through a friend of mine. He told me it was fantastic and he was quite right. The sound is much better than my 3 year old Sony prologic system. It was quite expensive here in Denmark, but it it worth all the money. I have wired it up to 4 Jamo studio 190 speakers and a Jamo center, but they are actually to small for the amplifier, so I am dreaming of an upgrade, but it will have to wait a cuople of month or so. It is definately a superb reiceiver! |

Well first off, I was looking for a receiver/amplifier more than a home theater unit. For me it came down to two receivers that I was interested in, the 795a and the Denon 3300. Considering the price of the two, I was able to get the 795a for $610 and that home theater capabilities were a bonus and not a necessity, the Yamaha 795a was the obvious choice. Talk about getting bang for your buck, I'm very happy I went with the Yamaha. I still have two huge speakers with 15" woofers that I bought back when I was thirteen. I know that I need to replace them and they're quite ugly but I have had a hard time parting with them, have always loved their sound. The Yamaha drives those old inefficient speakers of mine just fine. The sound is big, full, rich, and clear. For the money I don't think their is a better value out there, I couldn't ask for more in sound quality. Looks like my old speakers may hang around a little while longer, the 795a sounds that good. |

Strength:
Excellent sound. Remote control is very user friendly. Easy to use controls.
Weakness:
none yet Just purchased my first home theater system the middle of March 2000. I settled on the Yamaha receiver and a Paradigm speaker system after 3 agonizing months of research and shopping. I am very happy with the home theater sound they produce and equally happy with the sound when used as a stereo. The V795a is definitely the best in the $600.00 arena. I considered the Denon 1800, but was concerned over the lack of no s-video inputs/outputs.
