I own a NAD 216 amp and it sounds good, like my Yamaha amp. However, I am reluctant to provide any comment on the amp's sonic characteristics (i.e., whether it is warm sounding, having excellent mid and low bass, crisp highs, etc.) because I still don't understanding how an amplifier can produce these characteristics (or not) when it's main purpose is to amplify the signal feeding through it. If people are going to provide their commentary on how something sounds, shouldn't they be referencing the source? I mean reference the receiver, CD player, tape player, etc.. because I know sound differences exist between brand x and y for each of these components. However, I haven't been able to accomplish hearing any difference between amps, except for the amount of distortion. The distortion level is about the only perceivable comment I can make in reference to the amp's characterisitic, since I know that between different amps distortion levels can vary. Now, in reference to the NAD amp's distortion level, the level of distortion is inaudible. Well, should someone read this and have a differing opinion, GREAT -- all opinions are welcomed, because until someone can provide some logical insight the only differences I see between different make amps are the output, distortion level, and cost.

Definitely liked the 214 better. The 214 produces very transparent sound--good imaging and plenty of usable power (it 80 watts is very conservatively rated--it blew the doors off my old twin powered 150W/channel Kenwood).
By comparison, the 216 sounds slightly more 'muscular,' but the detail is veiled and indistinct--I can only describe the difference between the 214 and 216 as it seems like someone drew a curtain across the soundstage when listening to the 216.

I bought the 214 and I'm enjoying it a little more every day.

too bad this amp only takes one pair of speakers. If I had to choose again, I don't think it would
be my choice. I've always had problems with every
NAD cd player I have owned, and I bought their 1st
unit returned it for it's skipping and the 2nd and
3rd (more pricey) units all messed up the same way.
Choose DENON for CD players and go for the high-
end American amps.

Massive power supply and industrial looking heatsinks keep the amp running smooth and cool.
