I purchased this map unseen and unheard based upon a simple review. WOW, what surprise this amp replaced an Adcom GFA-7500 for Home Theater. I clearly beat the Adcom in clarity, low level detail and impact. I ran cooler than the Adcom and also appears to have a better build quality. Of importance is the fact that its Amercian built and this quality shows both in sound and manufacture. On the other hand the Adcom i built in China and its build shows.I would advise that you buy this amp its at steal.

Fabulous amp. Bought it about 3 months ago and I have no regrets. Fantasic amp with lots of power...almost identical to the ATI 1505...except with more power and a better fuse-tripping technology.
Buy this amp!

Strength:

Clean power for days...

Weakness:

one heavy S.O.B. (which is a good thing after it's in place)

WOW...the is a great amp for the money. My Adcom GSA700 died and I lost the center/rear channels. I decided to hook up my Marantz DP870 direct to a 5 channel amp and bought this baby based on the reviews and recommendations of many people. The first unit arrived with minor damage to the input for the right surround. It was still operational and the improvement in the sound stage was immediately apparent. I enjoyed watching DVDs I have had for some time and hearing things I missed before. The detail was amazing and the sound improves as the amp warms up and breaks in. Outlaw sent a replacement the day after I called, no questions asked. The replacement was perfect. They got a customer for life with products and service like that.

Strength:

Sound quality, operates very cool, size

Weakness:

Click on power up

Superior detail to my old integrated amplifier configuration. This amp also runs very cool compaired to the others I had on my system even at relatively high volume levels.

It is one of a few multi-channel amplifiers that will fit in the shallow cabinet that I have.

System consists of:

B&K Ref. 30
Hales Rev. 3's
Hales Rev. Center
Kef Q15 - surrounds
Sony DVP-S300

Strength:

Great bang for the buck. Terrific customer service, the best I've ever encountered.

Weakness:

Sound is quite dry, tending toward bright. It does improve
somewhat after breakin.

I'll jump right to the point. I bought this amp both because of the great price and the good reviews on this forum. I ended up sending it back. Now the details.

I have been an audiophile for over 25 years and like most, have specific tastes. We all say we want only the most accurate reproduction, but at the end of the day, some of us prefer a touch of warmth and others a more analytical approach. The Outlaw amp...to my ears was on the analytical, dry, slightly bright end of the spectrum. Since I listen two channel abotu 50% of the time, this is what cause it to go back.

I have NHT 2.5i loudspeakers and have been told by some that they are bright. I have never felt that way until I hooked up the Outlaw. I have used Audio Research tubes, Classe solid state, rotel solid state and even a Kenwood thx certified home theater amp to drive them and have never felt the highs...or actually the upper midrange was too thin or astringent. With the Outlaw, it was. This got better after about two weeks of running it 24/7, but not enough for me to keep the amp. I ended up with Marantz 700 monoblocks and am more satisfied.

Still, I would not pan this amp. It is almost impossible to beat for the money...especially for a HT only system where the tilt up on the treble adds a touch of excitement.

The customer service is above reproach. They sent me a prepaid shipping form for FedEx and promptly refunded my money. I would not hesitate to try another product from them. So...since I'm awfully fussy...I have to give them a 5 on value but just a 3 on sound. Your results may be different.

Strength:

Bang for the Buck. Build Quality. Customer Service. Improved sound over single integratedss

Weakness:

Can't think of any considering the price range it is competing in

After several months of deliberation and auditioning of several other 5 channel amps, I decided to give the Outlaw 750 a try based upon it's price point and other's opinions.

This has been a great purchase for me. I have this unit mated with a Carver HR-875 integrated (soon to be replace) and I am using Krix Apex for the fronts and Energy .5 for rears with an Energy ES-8 powered sub.

When I put this unit in my system. WOW what an improvement. The other amps I listened to (see above) all sounded well during auditions (except for the Sherbourne, all though I have been told that the unit I auditioned may have been faulty). This amps competes with all of the above. And at the price break of $1100 it has definetly the most bang for the buck. I believe it has a better build quality than the NAK which was $800 dollars more. The Rotel which is $100 cheaper just doesn't give near the punch to the music. I have found that the Outlaw outperforms the Rotel in many ways. The ATI is a very good amp and would have been my choice had the Outlaw not been $500 dollars to down side.

I have spent the last week really listening to it with all types of different musical stlyes. I have listened to every thing from Zachary Richard (Zydeco) to Meatloaf to KISS to Craig Chaquico. All styles have exceled above and beyond what my system could previously do. The music and soundstage have really opened up. The detail still remains, however the high frequencies are not nearly as fatiguing. It use to be that that after a couple of hours listening I would have to turn of the equipment simply from tiring of listening. NOT NOW!!!! My listening sessions over the weekend were 3 and 4 hours long. I could have continued, but I had the wife factor soo.

I guess the bottom line on this amp is if you are looking to go into seperates and only have $1100 to budget for a 5 channel amp. This should be the one for you. If your budget can afford more than there maybe other amps out there for you. But this can't be beat for its price

Strength:

Plenty of Bang for the Buck. This baby will push your low
impedance speakers breathlessly.

Weakness:

None unless you are such a far gone audiophile that you must have something more expensive with a better name.

The previous reviewer is correct when he states that choice of audio gear is a personal decision. If I could afford a $60,000 dollar Meridian complete system then I would probably buy it. Like lots of "Dudes" I like something bigger and better all the time. I would like a
big HDTV but it aint in my budget nnow! I am sure the ATI
amp is great...It might be better but with my M&K speaker
system and my little old cheap Pioneer A/v reciever VSX-14
now acting as a preamp/processor I sure do notice a great
deal of sonic improvement. I was driving the M&K 750 THX
system with the Pioneer at 100 watts by 5 into 8 ohms.
the improvement in sound with the Outlaw driving the speakers is awesome! I am sure the ATI would be awsesome
as well or a Marantz or and Adcom or a host of better known
amps you can buy from your local upscale audio dealer.
If you really want an ATI with a few more top end features
then by all means go for it for a few hundred more bucks.
I got my Outlaw within two days of ordering it and the customer service has been great so far. The AC to DC power
converter called out in their owners manual as a radio shack
part number is obsolete but I emailed Outlaw and they quickly indicated a new p/n from radio shack. (the converter
is for simultaneous power up of the amp from your processor)
Setup was quick and easy and so far I am mightily impressed
with my purchase. I could have bought an ADCOM GFA 7500 that
is THX certified for a lot more money and a few more convenience features and less power but what the hey. THX
certification on an amp means little any way. It is your
processor that really neads to be THX if that is what turns your motor. RE-EQ, Decorrelation and the other features
of THX are in the guts of your A/V receiver or preamp processor if it has THX certification. I expect Outlaw
will be producing a processor that rivals THX in the near future and I will be interested in that product when it comes along. folks I really believe a lot of the reviews
we read on this site are naturally biased ...but in all honesty this product appears to kick major butt for the buck! If you want effortless power in your 5.1 home theater
setup and equally strong sound out of direct stereo to low
impedance speakers then this product will float your boat
any day...any time. I expect to get years of service from this amp. If I ever choose to upgrade to higher wattage speakers with evenb more power handling capability ...well
the outlaw will be there.

Strength:

Great value, and proof that you don't always get what you pay for. Sometimes, you get more.

Weakness:

Not as pretty as some of the competition.

First, I'd like to clear up a few points on the issue of the Outlaw 750 vs. the ATI 1505. Both represent tremendous value, but their differences are not as previously reported. In fact, they are so similar as to defy differentiation by any but the most opinionated criteria.

1. The Outlaw 750 is NOT built by ATI. Both amps were designed by their respective sellers, and the assembly in each case is subcontracted to the same 3rd party manufacturer (not a name that anyone would recognize) in Southern California, who also provides assembly for 6 other "manufacturers". This practice is prevalent, and encompasses the "high end" as well. (Nice thing about this age of the internet, everyone is naked!)

2. The ATI has 2 more output devices per channel than the Outlaw. (Both use the same Toshiba bi-polar transistors). With everything else being equal, more current might be available in the case of the ATI, but current also depends on the design of the pre-drive stage circuitry. For those of us not using humongous true ribbon Maggie, or electrostat speakers, it's a non-issue. Also, both amps use the same large, high quality power caps from Panasonic, which contribute to the prodigious headroom of these units. As far as sonic quality goes, the merits of using more output transistors beyond basic electrical needs is akin to the debates over speaker cables.

3. The ATI uses a larger toroidal transformer, but this is a non-issue as well. When it comes to rated wattage with all five channels driven, the Outlaw 750 slightly edges the ATI 1505. Apparently, either transformer is quite capable of supplying what's needed to the voltage rails, so it's overkill in either case. As it should be.

4. ATI claims to value match their output transistors, but Outlaw does in fact buy their transistors in matched and labeled pairs. Different approach(?), same results.

If you are in the market for a great 5-channel amp, you can't go wrong with the Outlaw 750. To my ears, it doesn't color the sound in anyway, and has tons of power in reserve for transient responses. With my 8 ohm speakers this amp is overkill, and I have no further concerns toward distortion. My only fear now is "bottoming out" my bass drivers. I bought this amp with the thought of eventually upgrading to box speakers which are a 4 ohm design. I'm quite sure that it will serve them very well.

Highly recommended.

For home audio, I've used amps by SAE and Yamaha. As a musician, I've owned amps in this class built by Crown, BGW, and Mackie. After much time spent comparing specs and reviews for 5-channel HT amps, (Golden Theater, ATI, Parasound, B&K...) I came to the conclusion that Outlaw Audio offers the very best value with little or no compromise.

Read all the reviews you want to. This amp does everything it should and MORE! Very easy hook up. Cool Logo.

Weakness:

Heavy SOB!

MORE POWER, LESS MONEY? DUH!!!
I researched for 8 months and Outlaw was the name that I kept hearing. This is my first Amp and it was worth every penny. I read all the reviews I could find, but more importantly I went to retailers (none of them had ever heard of Outlaw) and listened to the products listed above. I couldn't hear a great deal of differnce between the 3(above) so I figured that if what everybody was saying was true than I had nothing to lose. Those of you worried about ordering over the net, DON'T call the 800#. Worried about customer service DON'T the sales people are great and there is no pressure to buy so ask all the ?'s you want. The day my Outlaw arrived (exactly when I was told it would, 2 days after purchase)the hardest thing to do was get it out of the box. But within an hour I had it fired up and it was AWESOME(I suggest chapter's 31 & 32 of HEAT). It's not often that a product really lives up to all it's hype, the Outlaw DOES! This product performs way beyond it's price point and hearing is believing!
I am sorry if I bored anyone but I hope this review helps someone in the market for a GREAT amp with a $tag that only makes it better! Thank You for reading.
