I got this amp for 250 usd, and it just made my BOSE 601 series I speakers come alive again. If you can get one of this you will not regret it. |

I bought my MX-1000U used for $1380 in good condition and have been very happy with its performance. This amplifier has nice dynamics and makes the listener want to get up and dance. Overall it has a sound like that of a McIntosh unit that is non-fatiguing but different too. It was interesting that I'm not the only one to make that comment. The first thing I noticed was this amplifier has great dynamics as noted earlier and images really good. It brings out the reverb and low-midrange detail in music. I really enjoy the tone and decay of strings on this amp in particular. It's been comparable to other amplifiers in the $2500 to $4000 range. I'm a bit confused by others who write the U version was lower power. I happened to have owned the MX-1000 in the past and it only has one transformer compared to the dual active power supply in the MX-1000U with 450W per channel dynamic 8 ohm power.

I too have owned an MX 1000 for a long time and it still puts out the same clean power today as it did the day I bought it. Unfortunately my days of blow the windows out loud music are gone and I am looking to sell the piece. If anyone is interested, I can be contacted via e-mail at sbosamnote@hotmail.com |

Yamaha MX1000U power amp - What can I possibly say about this unit. I am running Klipsch KLF 30 x2 and 4 Tannoy Dual Concentrics 15'. I placed my mate in the centre of the room and cranked it up. No distortion whatsoever, the only reason I reduced the volume was because he spewed on my carpet due to the sonic sound waves. I purchased this baby brand new. It took me 9 months to get it into the country from Japan. There were none left in Australia. I have recently purchased another MX1000U and 1 Mx-800U, because I couldn't get another MX1000U. Have mates that have spent $3000-$4000 on power amps and once they hear the sound clarity and power of the MX1000 they are very disappointed with their own equipment. After all these years and running it constantly at max it has never let me down. I have far more power then my eardrums can possibly handle. Why doesn't Yamaha make anything like this again? To the guy with the front display that doesn't work - have a look behind the front perspex till you get to the first resistor relating to the dB display and resolder the circuit bord relating to the same resistor and the display should come back to life. The heat on that unit is immense and depending where you're displaying it, it shakes the life out of it even though its so heavy.

Strength:
POWER! CLEAN! DURABLE! AND ROCKS!!!
Weakness:
NONE! I have owned many of AMPS in my lifetime, But the MX1000U is the best I've owned by far! I bought this massive beast in 1990 and haven't regretted it since. I run a Yamaha CX-2 as my Pre-Amp. (excellent match-up). I have one of the best sounding systems that I have ever heard! My speakers that I use are the Klipsch KLF-30's and KSW-15 powersub, also a match! The only thing I do regret is the price i paid for this amp ($1200.00). I dont know where these guys bought theirs, but I need to know? If anybody wants to get rid of theirs, just let me know! Strength:
Clean and clear power allow this amp to effortlessly drive high powered speakers....smoked a pair of JBL S312II speakers with this baby!
Weakness:
heats up very quickly. This is a great amp!! The power is clean and plentiful, and the amp allows many speakers to be connected. The amp is heavy but worth it's weight. The transformers in this bad boy are MASSIVE and the amp generates tremendous heat if placed in a tightly enclosed area. Similar Products Used: Yamaha AV2 |

Strength:
Love the power and the display.
Weakness:
heavy Bought in Germany in 1991 at the end of year clearance. 50% off, yeehaw!!! Originally was used to drive a pair of AM5II's and smoked the subwoofers 3 times. Unit has driven a pair of Bose 601's and the Bose AM5II's in parralel for the last 9 years without a hiccup. The power is bottomless and I can use it as an extra heat source in the winter when neccesary. HUGE transformers. Strength:
It truely does rock. Strong performer.
Weakness:
I smoked a pair of JBL Control 10's after a ten hour 300 watt blowout. The amp still is kicking. A older amp. I bought it in Japan back in the day. But it rivals the interity of my MX-1. If you can get you hands on one of these. Do it. |
