Strength:
Awesome, reliable, clean, powerfull and Class-A amplification to boot and all at an affordable price.
Weakness:
None whatsoever Tried out varous systems but settled for the Yamaha MX-1000/CX-1000 combo and have never regretted it after all these years. Too bad coudn't mate them to Yamaha NSA-300 speakers as they couldn't handle this beast. Settled for dbx Soundfeild-V Sub/Speaker combo and ended up with the most formidable sound system ever. Strength:
260wpc, 8ohms, 330 wpc, 4ohms. This amp means business.Excellent sound quality.Two huge power transformers and quality components to make it sound excellent.
Weakness:
Replacement MX1 can't compete. Have had this amp along with the preamp CX1000 since 1993. Bought them when I was stationed in Japan.Paid $649 for the amp new. In 1990 it was running $550.I know it was a lot higher in the states.Sound quality is excellent.Yamaha made this amp for primarily discos, clubs,or your living room.So they actually had to put some heavy duty components inside so this amp wouldn't burn up. The result was excellent sound at all volume levels. No artificial clipping off the bass (Pioneer)to cover for a cheap/inexpensive power supply.The bottom line is when were ready to stop fooling around this was the amp you were going to pat for and keep. This amp is awsome!It produces a natural,clean and powerful sound.I just baught another one to compete my system,= 2x mx600,1x m80,and 2x mx1000.This is the MX1000(beefer over the MX1000u).The "U" means it is dual voltage for overseas and has tighter regulation on it = less power.
Weakness:

Neutral, clean, powerful, aesthetically pleasing. I bought it for only $350.00. Do not confuse the MX-1000U(higher caliber amp) with the MX-1000 amp.
Weakness:

Weakness:
Heavy as a MF due to the MASSIVE transformers on the left hand side of the chassis. You have to be real careful when you move it because all of the weight is on the left hand side. I bought my MX-1000 back in 1989 when I was stationed in Germany. It is still going strong. I have it driving a pair of Cerwin Vega AT-100s that can handle all of the power(400 Watts continuous)and mated with a Yamaha CX-800 preamp. The only thing that has bummed me out about it is that the digital wattmeter burned out on me about 2 years ago. Other than that, I love this amp! When I recently purchased a Home theater receiver( Yamaha RX-V795 ), I made sure that it had preouts so that I could still have this amp driving my CVs! |

Ultra CLEAN class A amp!!! Comes to within +/- 5% of any amp's specs. RELIABLE!!
Weakness:
I could only wish they were more powerful---say---400watts THE absolute BEST value power amp ever made!! I use two of them on my Infinity Kappa 9a's (bi-amped)and they are astonishing!! I need one more MX-1000, so if you're selling one....I'm BUYING!!!! Just got my new Yamaha RX-V1 A/V reciever, and now all I need is one more MX-1000 and my system is complete!! I've never had a better amp!! To get better than this-----you have to get krell!!! |

POWER and reliable.
Weakness:
HEAVY. Washers from underneath the mounting screws (under transformers) are showing signs of heat exposure. I've had this baby since 1991 and it still rocks! Looks like something you can still buy today. |
