Strength:
Transparency, depth and width of soundstage, and resolution.
Weakness:
Ability to handle difficult loads and moderate to high volumes. Just wanted to post an update to an earlier review. Having lived with this product now for over a year I am still amazed with the sound that this tiny integrated generates. I have noticed that many report a very high operating temperature but I have not experienced this with the exception of a pair of Martin Logan CLS's. I am running a pair of Thiel 1.5's (4 ohms nominal & 86db/2.86 volts) and have not had this occur even at fairly high volume levels for extended periods of time. EVERTHING MENTION PREVIOUSLY
Weakness:
NONE JUST WANTED TO ADD TO THE POSITIVE COMMENTS ON THIS GREAT INTEGRATE. I'M FINDING THAT THIS IS ABOUT AS GOOD AS IT GETS UNLESS WILLING TO SPEND CONSIDERABLY MORE. CAN'T IMAGINE ANYONE NOT LOVING THIS AMP UNLESS YOU HAVE INEFFICENT SPEAKERS. ALSO WANTED TO MENTION THAT I HAVE USED MANY SPEAKER AND INTERCONNECT CABLES AND HAVE FOUND THAT ANALYSIS PLUS CABLES ARE AN EVEN GREATER VALUE THAN THE BRYSTON B60. THESE CABLES ARE AWESOME AND IN MY OPINION ARE A BEST BUY IF THERE EVER WAS ONE. THEY MADE A BIGGER DIFFERENCE IN SOUND THAN THE BRYSTON DID AND THE BRYSTON IS CERTAINLY NOT A SLOUCH!! MADE ABIGGER DIFFERENCE THAN CONES UNDER THE AMP(THAT'S RIGHT). I BOUGHT MINE FROM DELVEAUDIO.COM Similar Products Used: ELECTROCOMPANIET ECI-4 INTEGRATED AMP ($3000) |

Strength:
Smooth, detailed, great bass. Very neutral sounding.
Weakness:
Cost for remote, but I understand it costs money to make it so the remote doesn't futz up the sound. I think this is a great amp. My favorite SS amp under $2000 US. I had not been a fan of Bryston amps in the past and when I heard their new "ST" amps and this B60, I was blown away. Having used Bryston's 2B-LP amps for ten of the past eleven years, I have just gone back to a 2B-LP and the B60RP (remote and phono stage) pushing a pair of Aerial 6's in bi-amp configuration. I spent the last year with some considerably more powerful and costly amps, but could never seem to catch the detail and speed I had with the Brystons. This was especially true with a couple tube amps I tried (McIntosh and VTL). I will second everything good said many times in the reviews below. I will add that bi-amping with the Bryston 2B-LP amp will really open up your speakers. The transparency and soundstage are wonderful. I don't believe that this 60 watt integrated amp can stand up at higher listening levels against the much larger Classe, Krell or McIntosh integrateds when run alone. But, when bi-amped with the 2B-LP, it is clearly a cut above them. I am especially impressed with the phono stage. Is, per Chris Russell @ Bryston, the BP25 put inside the B60. Lovely, grain-free top and linear, lyrical sound. No peaks anywhere. As good or better than Stereophile says it is. |

this is a very good little integrated. i am running it with a pair of monitor audio silver 5 speakers with audioquest indigo speaker wire and audiotruth emerald interconnects, and (unfortunately) a crappy cd player from technics. when acurus comes out with their dvd video/audio player i will take the acurus acd-11 from the big rig & hook it up to a msb link dac. that should clear up the main problem i am experiencing now, a little bit of a tipped up top end. but other than that the sound of this system is pretty good. the bryston is very very fast & detailed. wind instruments in large orchestral works are more distinct than i have heard them on many other systems. also, this unit does not run hot for me & i do not have to turn it up past 12 o'clock to get very substantial volume. the fact that the silver 5's are at about 89 db sensitivity and 6 ohms probably helps, that being a pretty easy load. i agree with others about changing out the "u" jumpers this comes with (tara labs or audioquest jumpers) i got the audioquest becuase they were readily available & taralabs was not. they took about 2 weeks of constant use (8-10 hrs a day) before they broke in & started to sound musical. now they sound great. if only dvd audio can get their stuff together soon, this will be a really excellent music only system that will probably trounce my reference rig for overall musical enjoyment. it already is close enough that the big rig in the back of the house gets used mainly for movies. oh, one note on the headphone jack - it is not as good as i was lead to believe it might be. the x-cans unit i have is substantially better, with much better power output & dynamics, as well as smoother with a more natural presentation. the bryston has to be turned up to at least 12 o'clock to get a satisfactory volume level & starts distorting if you turn it up much past that. it also gives you more of an "inside of your head" presentation to the music. i will allow that the b60 is almost certainly not sounding as good as it might because of the sorry source component. i give it a rating of 4 stars and will post an updated review when the technics is history. |

Obviously when this string started Jason and Steve had some hidden agenda, come on!? 1 star. NOT. They are good examples of audiofools, not audiophiles who have the "Bigger is Better" virus. That is not what this awesome little Bryston is about. With my PSB Silvers I can drive the music loud enough to make every one want to leave the house. Plenty of bass slam (since these types of audiofools seem to be heavily into that sort of thing). I, like many others, love the "stealth Audio" look as it keeps the wife happy, and she has the opposite disease, "if it is small it must not cost much" (lucky for me). My Rotel RCD-971 (same dual Burr Brown DAC's as the Krell KPS 20i and HDCD) is only 2 3/4 inches high, so my whole system is less than 5 inches high. Not nearly large enough for most audiofools, but it sounds great. |
