Strength:
size and prestige
Weakness:
mechanical sounding and over-rated i had a friend who almost bought this amp untill i got him to hear and then he bought the chord cpm2600. i would advise anyone buying an integrated amp or pre and power at this price to hear the chord cpm2600. this chord integrated will sound better than anything at this price and above. in terms of bass, the krell was slower and less tight than the chord and in terms of midrange, the chord was way ahead. the krell also cannot match the transparency and detail of the chord. i found the krell rather harsh in the treble and mechanical sounding while the chord was much more musical and natural. Strength:
Reality from bass to highs, speed and energy/control
Weakness:
none The 300iL is a mix I have been searching for since I realized what a system can be: deep (but real, no extra) bass, smooth mediums able to re-create a real voice or trumpet (with energy and control) and high frequencies with no limit to complete the scene to create "reality". As a bonus, I can now enjoy the presence of each participant of a concert (from an opera to a jazz band or a live rock), including the public, the speakers (remember those big sound blocks?). Each of them stays at its right place (which is also the benefit of the speakers, Martin Logan SL3). The price, especially in France, is not a gift but usually shops (well, good ones) are reasonable in exchanging your old amp for new Krell. I upgraded from a Classé Audio CAP-101 which was really good in my opinion (better than the old KAV300i, especially in the midrange) but the 300iL joins the best of both with an extra presence (it seems that everything always is under control) and real energy. The look is good as well (not as sharp as the 300i) and it''s easy to use with a good remote (the credit card one). Strength:
Speed, power, elegance, WAF (!!), price.
Weakness:
None that I can think of. If you''re in this game for the first time, and want a hiend product at entry price level, this is the perfect start. The kav300iL delivers in smooth elegance full soundstage, true and uncluttered musicality, speed and stamina not found elsewere in this price range. It performs without adding anything to the source. Bass is truly present and powerful, and the midrange "is there". I use the kav300iL with Krell DVD Standard, and Krell LAT-2 speakers, all hooked up with Nordost SPM. Similar Products Used: kav500i |

Strength:
Deep and tight bass, excellent soundstage! Gorgeous piece of machine!
Weakness:
MSRP $3250 is a bit pricy for us regular Joe, but considering the rest of the world are paying MSRP $5000. In Japan, it''s 590,000 yen!! This amp is truely amazing! Both sonically and aesthetically!! The soundstage on the 300IL is awesome, it''s very deep and 3D. Especially when you are listening to Symphony Orchestral works. It put your right there in the middle of the concert hall, as the recordings were intended. I happen to be a current subscriber to a Carnegie Hall series and I have been going there at least once a month for the past few months! That tells you how much I like the Krell! Then of course, it''s still not as good as live, but I am still very impressed with what it does compared to many products out there! The 300IL also has very deep and tight bass, nothing short of expectation from Krell. High is not harsh even when using silver cables (i/c and pc, I have yet to try silver spker cable on it), but then again if you are a tube guy, it might be a bit high for you. The other main reason I chose the 300IL is because of its sheer power! I have a pair of Infinity IRS Sigma that demands a relatively higher power output. So there isn'' really much choice out there that would give me 400W (4ohms) at this price quality level. Most other more expensive stuff like the Jeff Rowland''s or ML''s have even less. I was lucky enough to pick up my units (along with the 280CD, great piece btw) directly from the Krell factory, and got a small factory tour!! Everything there is handmade to perfection. I was told that the one major difference with the new 300IL vs. the old 300I and 500I, is that the 300IL uses Krell higher end FBP (Full Balanced Power?) design, which was not use in the old models. This is not referring to the balanced signal, it''s the actual power output being balanced thru the speaker output terminals. Finally, this amp is just simply gorgeous! The pics out there simply don''t justify the brushed finish on it! I hate ugly and weird looking equipments! Some people say it''s stupid if an equipment looks good but sounds bad. Couldn''t agree more, but I believe it''s also true the other way around. Then of course, some people would prefer the old 300i or 500i look, which I can understand, I used to like them too! Strength:
Clarity and power in a small box
Weakness:
none so far System is Marantz CD7;Krell 300iL; Vienna Accoustics Mahler Speakers in a room with no parallel walls. Copes brillantly both with large orchestral works and single instruments. Krell seems to have lots of power in reserve and great clarity. Its expensive in the UK but well worth the cost. You need a really good system to bring out the best. Strength:
Detail, power and very good control
Weakness:
No phono stage This is my first step into hi end stuff, and the first time I bought an american amp. Originally, I was looking for mid range amp to replace my very old Cyrus 1. Tried the Musical Fidelity A3, Tag Maclaren 60i, Arcam A85 and some other which couldn't convince me to part with my money. Then the hifi dealer suggested me to the 300iL. It is a lot more expensive and very good looking (my girl friend likes it very much but I prefer the old and brutal design of the 300i). Started off by listening to some audiophile vocal CDs. Unimpressed, many british can better, anyway I don't like vocals. Then came the killer, piano CDs. I grew up listening to piano 4 to 5 hrs a day. That's most beautiful piano sound I'd ever heard. Every note is clean and real. After couple of months of listening, the 300iL is very good for instruments. But for vocals look somewhere else. Similar Products Used: Cyrus 1 |

Strength:
detailed crisp music
Weakness:
no headphone jack I agree with previous poster. Krell fixed the few irritating problems with the 300i and came out with a very incredible integrated amp. Mine's hooked up with Purist cables all the way around and drive NHT's. Next best thing to live music. Really wasn't looking to upgrade but this was too impressive to pass up. |
