Strength:

smooth, powerful, and convenient. a dream to use, and cool factor off the scale.

Weakness:

top shelf components needed for best sound. good speaker pairing essential.

People who complain about Krell are usually fans of other brands, in which case they should say that it's not their cup of tea (which is understandable, especially if you're a tube fan), rather than listening to it once and flatly saying "it sucks" and giving it one star.

That said, I'm very pleased with the 300il. It drives my B&W CDM1SEs beyond what I thought the little speakers were capable of, and the sound is smooth, clean, and powerful. Bass is not just plentiful, it's well controlled and detailed. Compared to the 300i, it's more refined, and you notice it after about 5 seconds.

Other than just looking cool, which it does in spades, the Krell is very convenient. It's small and easy to use, and the theater throughput feature is just a godsend -- being able to use it as the amp for the front channels of a home theater system is great, especially for someone who has no space for dedicated theater and music systems.

Tiny gripes: SOMEtimes when I turn it on, the volume indicator is all wacky. Fortunately it just takes a reset and it's fine. Also, I'm not a fan of the tiny remote. I programmed its codes into a universal.

I've had it for close to a year, and each time I use the thing I decide that it was money well spent. It combines great sound, pleasing aesthetics (something I can say about very few audiophile components), a manageable price, and convenience in a way that no other amplification component I've seen does.

Strength:

Power, good bass, detail

Weakness:

So far none

This new Krell product is an excellent amp. Before I decided to buy this amp, I had a chance to listened and compared it with the old Krell 300i with B&W speakers. The 300iL is a lot smoother sounding and more relaxed like the previous post (Don) said.

The 300iL works very well with both NHT 2.5i and ProAc Response 1.5 speakers. I normally hook the 300iL with NHT 2.5i and hook CJ MV-55 with the ProAc 1.5 because sometime I use this Krell/NHT to play a two channel HT. It works really great! I switch the system around some time depending on the CD that I am playing. In some CD, the 300iL sounds like a tube amp ... but definitely it is not tube. For vocal, CJ sounds better but for instrument, I much prefer the 300iL.

Strength:

Power, detail, quality, looks, versatility and the name Krell to back it up.

Weakness:

Absolutely none.

I love this amp. It does it all right, from the 200 watts per channel to it's bass authority and fine detail. Yes it is expensive but considering what you’re getting it's well worth it. It is an improvement on the previous model in every respect. IMHO this could be “the” perfect integrated amp. Happy auditioning.

Strength:

Powerful. Good bass. Cool looking shell.

Weakness:

Overpriced. Not accurate.

This product is sadly a complete joke due to the price and Krell hype. The 300i was a disappointment. It wasn't too bad but I had more satisfaction with the Bryston (forgot the model#). The new 300iL is somewhat better (from what I remember) but for an analog amp this is way overpriced. Heck, the Sim Audio I5080 is more accurate and costs 80% less! Might as well wait for TACT M2150 ($4000 something last time I heard) or any other digital integrated as they become available in the future. Cheaper and much more accurate. Well, I guess the Krell would appeal to those anti-digital heads. Regardless, if you're into analog there are more choices and you can pay less for a decent preamp combo. In any case, I expect to see a whole list of used 300iL on the net just like the 300i. Just don't be another 300i victim.

Strength:

Excellent Build, Dynamics, Design & Soundstage

Weakness:

Price & needs more audio inputs

The new Krell product line is an excellent change for the better. This integrated amp is an audiophiles dream that's ever so close to a tube sound without a loss of overall slam. At 150 watts per channel it has enough power reserve to handle the toughest speaker load demands. It's sleek new silver design is really a standout. The price is expensive but it almost makes up for it in sonics. The only reserve I have as with most high end fare is the need for more audio ins. I suppose the internal signal paths are shortest this way. That aside the Krell keeps it's earned reputation as one of the leaders in consumer friendly High End Gear. Mate this with the new KAV-280cd player(see my review) and you will look no further.

Everything

Weakness:

None

Hello fellow Audiophiles! Its been a while since I have made a post here, but I read the group everyday. I recently purchased the New Krell 300iL after owning the 300i for two years. The following is my equipment

Krell 300iL
2 NHTSw3a's (I bi-amp, and yes it makes a big difference)
NHT 3.3
Onkyo 9090 Mark 2 tuner(No you can't have it-:))
Akai 727 Reel to reel ( You can't have it either)
Denon 60L TT
Aiwa F 990 Cassette Deck ( Still sounds great after 20 Years!)
Assorted cables such as Kimber and Harmonic Tech.

I also have a separate Home Theater system, but that's another story

Let me start off by saying that Krell seemed to fix everything that was wrong with the 300i and put it all in the300iL. The 300iL has 200wpc as opposed two the 150wpc on the Krell 300i. The 300i has a 400VA transformer whereas the 300iL is rated at 750VA The main complaint on the 300i was, it was not musical. Well let me tell you, it is musical now! It has a much wider sound stage and increased detail much greater depth. The 300i seem to always focus on the Main ingredient of a song while the 300iL focuses on the whole picture. The bass is much tighter and a bit stronger on the 300iL. The other complaint on the 300i was that it was bright. Well it never was bright in my system, and the 300iL certainly isn't, but could seem that way depending on the other equipment associated with it. I say this because it has a lot more detail up top then the 300i. The 300iL is a lot smoother sounding and relaxed. The 300i sounded like a old western bar, whereas the 300iL sounds like a fine restaurant, with a glass of good wine on the table. The Krell 300i sold for $2350 and the 300iL goes for $3250. Is the 300iL worth the difference? Well in audiophile money it is, a by that I mean once you get to a certain level, you start to pay a lot for small improvements. I very much like the sound of the 300iL and it works well with my NHT 3.3's. I can't wait to read the magazine reviews. Later.....
