I recently saw an ad for the 314.
(arrow pointing to the bass knob) "one bell"
(arrow pointing to the treble knob) "one whistle"
(arrow pointing to the tone defeat) "and a button to turn them off"

Quite a leap up from mass market audio. It was rated at 35 watts RMS but something like 120 watts peak, which equates to about 5.5db of headroom. Last time I checked the sony's and such they were about 3db headroom. 0.03% THD. Last time I checked the mass market products they were about 0.9%, or 30 times less clean. I owned an onkyo 910tx receiver before that, and it was a noticable improvement.

I just love the whole NAD philosophy. Spend more on the internal components than on the fancy LCD displays and back lit buttons and fancy cases and you get great sound for less money. It's that simple.

I've had the 314 in my system for 8 months now and am impressed daily by the great sound this little integrated amp puts out. The sound is warm and detailed. On the minus side the unit does not look great or have great build quality. But with that said, I believe it is the best integrated amp in this price range hands down.

System includes NAD 314 amp, NAD 412 tuner, KEF Q35 speakers, arcam alpha 7 cd player, monster Cable S12 sp cables,QED qnect2 interconnect.
Have had the 314 for approx 1 year, has the same great quality sound as the 3020 I had in the early 80s. The 3020 finally failed after 7 years.

Its recommended you biwire the KEFs so I have biwired off the A/B speakers to the Q35s, just need to keep the B speakers on. To me this made a noticeable difference

Leave the soft clipping off

Can't beat it for the price(US$260 demo), but if I was buying today would check out the new NAD C320 / C340 as they are getting rave reviews.

The NAD 314 has a lot in common with the NAD 3020, which I love
But the NAD 314 has more power, better in the bas range I think.
I recently bought it and I am impressed compared to the NAD 3020.

It´s an amplifier I can listen to for hours without getting tired

The C320 and C340 has replaced the NAD 314, so now you can get the NAD 314 for a very resonable price.

Buy It !

I recently bought a NAD 314 and I absolutely LOVE it. While I haven't heard too much in the world of hi-fi components, this is the best I have ever owned or heard. Almost makes my crappy JBL bookshelf speakers sound good enough to keep. Nah, probably not. This amp has a very conservative power rating, I believe. Either that or my Sony (more crap) 60x2 receiver is very overrated, because I can get everything louder, tighter, and cleaner with this little 314. BTW, who cares if the front panel is a little cheesy? All the buttons and knobs work just fine, and you don't have to spend money on flashy LCD displays. Picked it up from www.saturdayaudio.com for a little under $300 incl. shipping. They might still have a few left, and they have a good return policy, so I highly recommend giving it a listen. You won't be disappointed.

Purchased the 314 in March 1999. Picked it up for only $270.00 from "Saturday Audio Exchange" (i.e. "www.saturdayaudio.com"). A great deal price! Unfortunately (after two months of listening) I decided that I really didn't love the sound (just liked it...). So, I decided to send it back to the store and exchange it for NAD c340 (Which I've heard is better)......
Don't get me wrong! I thought that the 314 really produced some of the cleanist Highs and detailed midrange that I've ever heard in a long time. As a matter of fact, I recently had the pleasure of comparing the Rotel RA-971 amp (Which cost significantly more) to the 314....and found the midrange of both amps to be highly comparable. Unfortunately....I felt that the 314 was just a little to bright on the Highs and lacked some suttle Bass detail (which I really needed). As a matter of fact, it was the lack of bass which drove me to return the unit in the first place.....

To summarize: The 314 is a very quiet amp (no hum or distortion of any kind). Unfortunately, a little bit too bright for my taste. And, even though other reviewers (some here in these pages) have praised its bass cacapability, I (using an original NAD 3020 as a reference) found it to be lacking a bit. I also used (among other things) the "Stereophile Test CD 3" as a reference source. The amp produced a pleasant enough sound overall. Unfortunately, drums were a little too "up in your face" instead of supplementing the backgroud. And (as I already mentioned) some bass detail was also missing. The effect of such things as the drums made this amp a little hard to listen too for an extended period of time without getting a headache ....All in all, a good amp (but not a great one!).

This amplifier sounds just great....
And it`s pretty cheap, it doesn`t look much at the paper but in the real world it can rock your neighbourhood...

Strength:

Price/Perfomance, Simple, Plenty of power for a 30wX2 amp

Weakness:

No remote

This is actually a review for the 304. I got it used several years ago at a bit more than $200. It must have been the best $200 I have ever spend on a stereo system. The amp is perfect for a budget system. It have plenty of power and it gives high quality sound when pair with good speakers. When I compare it with my recently purchased T770 on 2 channels stereo, suprisingly, it hold its own pretty well. Other then a little stronger on the bass, I cannot tell too much of a difference using a Panasonic A120U DVD as CD and a PSB 400 speaker. When compare to AVR2400 on 2 channels, the NAD 304 sounds much much better(I was using the Signet SL260 for this comparion, the NAD sounds much more airly and gave ,overall, a much fuller sound). It is a 5+++ value rating for me. And a five star on Overall rating.

Denon AVR2400 (at 2 channel) NAd T770 (at 2 channel)
