Weakness:
Headphones output is not the same quality as the rest of the amplifier. I think enough is said about this amplifier. It is simply very good. I write this because I want to comment on somebody who listened to the amplifier through the headphones. It plays not right through the headphones. |

Strength:
price, deep and powerful bass, vocals sound amazing. images well.
Weakness:
captive power cord, pre out main in jumpers. no volume dial marking. this is my opinion of the nad c370. as all who have written about the pre to power jumpers, i will most certainly have to agree it made the most difference. i use the pre out 2 since i have a 0.8m of vdH D 102 mk3 interconnects with gain at full. the amp was an upgrade to the c320bee and it is a step up in performance. clean, controlled, warm and smooth are adjectives that come to my mind. images very well. needs about half an hour to warm up( i keep my switched on all the time) for the price i did not find another amp which i liked as much as the 370. my system: marantz cd 6000 ki nad c370 monitor audio silver s6 van den hul magnum hybrid mc speaker cables van den hul D 102 mk3 interconnects (two pairs) pre2 to main and cd player to amp even if you dont require 120w per side, check this amp out. i'll give it an all five rating cause i found it to be what i was looking for plus its very reasonable Similar Products Used: nad c320bee(used for 3 months), arcam diva 75,audio anolgue puccini (heard at dealers) |

Strength:
musical, powerful, versatile, sexy (in my eyes... see below). Brilliant value.
Weakness:
Styling not to everybodys taste. Austere to say the least... If you use the two sets of binding posts to biwire, when you turn the unit of it doesn't remember that both A + B speakers were switched on, and defaults to A only setting. Dunna forget this, or you'll catch yourself listening to half a song. The provided links between preout and main in are pathetic. This amp is pretty damn fine; shovels full of power being the half of it: the rythmn and dynamics are awsome for the price (UK) and you couldn't ask for much more in the way of versatility. It has two tape loops, two preouts, so you can biamp with an additional power amp, and a prein, so you can add a dedicated preamp at a later date: Perfect for those incremental system builders out there. Biwireing is also a doddle, thanks to two sets of binding posts. Another review here suggests replacing the supplied links between pre-out 1 and main in: This is a minimum requirement, add 1/5 of the price of the unit to your budget, and spend it on a decent interconnect. I've used .5m DNM Reson, the improvement is unmissable. You're not listening to this amp until you take this measure. If you use the variable preout to provide the signal, then lower the output until the main volume dial is set about 1 o'clock for normal listening, this will also improve the amps performance. All in all, I'm a happy shopper |

Strength:
Clean uncolored sound at a nice price.
Weakness:
Crappy jumpers - replace them. For an audiophile on a budget this is a great amplifier. It provides very clean sound, without coloration and with quite good power. I think to get a more refined sound you would probably have to pay significantly more. I really wanted a Musical Fidelity, but could not afford the extra money at the time I purchased this amplifier. It replaces an old Luxman which developed some problems in the left channel. The Luxman had a quicker and richer sound, but was also colored by trying perhaps too hard to replicate a tube amp and hence being a bit too warm and too full in the bass. The C370 suffers no real flaws. I have heard more refined amplifiers, but not for less than $1000 and certainly not for the approximately $550 I paid for this amp. Two things strike me about this amp, the break-in and the jumpers. Right out of the box this amp sounded horrible - compressed, lifeless, muddy. Within ten hours of playing it opened up substantially but never really hit its stride until well over 100 hours of playing time. The differences were quite noticeable. Recently I replaced the horrible little jumpers that connect the pre-out and amp-in with AudioQuest Python jumpers (hard to find, but local dealers can order them or they are available on-line at Music Direct). This immediately and greatly improved the sound. If you buy this amp, budget an extra $40 for these jumpers. I think they moved the sound from high-end consumer to entry-level audiophile. You would think that with the major sound improvement these provide that NAD would provide something similar right out of the box. Overall this amp provides great sound for the money. Strength:
Power and clarity for money, no frills design and speaker A B facility, remote is nice and compact too.
Weakness:
Volume display, power lead. I bought this amp for £300 at Richersounds, the guys there were more than helpfull and let me try the nad 320bee and 350 before i bought the 370, I also tried 3 different sets of speakers. I have to admit that Im no Audio specialist and don't claim to have bags of top sound experience but I have however listened to a few very good seperate's systems in this price range with speakers like Mission, B&W, Tanoy, Eltax and the one's that I currently have Morduant Short 906. I've heard different types of Amps all around the 200 - 400 price range from Marants to alto audio and have to say the Nad is very very good. It's not as good as a top end 2 Grand amp but I mean you'd have to be a nonce to expect anything like that from a 300 pound amp. I would say this Amp pushes some major player amps around the 500 - 900 pound range and does have alot of power and general clarity for compared to some of the bigger boys under 1000 pounds. For the price it's a steal, I don't understand how this product was product of the year and had rave reviews in what hi-fi in 2001 but less than 1 and a half years later the same magazine gives the Nad c370 4 stars. I know Amps have improved in that price range but not enough to knock a a major 5 star amp of the year award winner in 2001 to a 4 star rated amp in 2003, just don't make any sense to me? This amp is very good and paired with some good speakers can produce ground shaking bass and clear mid and treble, the sound isn't as defined as major amps but you shouldnt really expect that for 300 quid like I said before you have to compare the product with the price your paying. I would say this product would still be a great amp at 500 quid, but you would seriously have to consider the Roksan Kandy MIII at £550 and that also has serious power and probably better seperation. All in all i'm pleased with the amp and plan to pair it with a Arcam 72 or a85 cd player if I get the players for the right price. By the way the difference between the c370 and the c350 is less volume knob movement and fuller and probably richer sound. Also the remote is very good you'd have to be a moron to get confused with the buttons there clearly marked and the remote is a nice size, I tried firing the remote from different angles in my room and it moved the volume every time, so the people claiming the remote has to be positioned in a certain way are clearly doing something wrong. I do agree with the people that say there isn't any marking on the volume dial to show were the volume is, I put a little strip of blue tak along the ridge and now I can see perfectly were the volume is at all times. speaker A B is brilliant and I had no problem connecting the speaker wires to the Amp and I used bi wire. The power lead is way to short as it is on the 320 and 350 but that can be solved by using a extension. Similar Products Used: 320, 350, kenwood, awia. |

Strength:
Power, bass and treble control ( you'll need the treble control ! )
Weakness:
Harsh, jarring sound. El Cheapo speaker connections, remote control unreliable and looks like a home-made box. I use the NAD C 370 amp with a NAD C 541i CD player and Dynaudio Contour 1.8 mark two speakers. I also listen through Sennheiser HD 590 headphones a lot. Perhaps I'm too fussy but I'm not really happy with the C 370 amp. At first I thought my headphones were too harsh - the music was jarring even at moderate volume. When I tried my headphones on other systems with the same CDs they sounded great. My speakers do a good job of ironing out the harsh treble but its still there to annoy me. I listened to my old cheap Sony amp through my Dynaudio and while it couldn't drive them as loud, it sounded better ! Listen to it with a variety of CDs before buying because that " SHssss " sound on some vocal tracks will really grate on you. Strength:
Exceptional Sound at volume. Expandable: Can be bridged with a NAD AMP if you need "more power". Classic NAD look. Great Bass and treble. Good Times @ House Parties.
Weakness:
No Phono out, had to buy the NAD phono preamp. Hard to see what level the volume is at if not turning the dial manually. Technical issue experienced (see review), Hoping it doesn't reoccur. After doing some digging into the popular opinion on this Amp (and giving it a listen in-store), I decided that I'd be a fool not to buy one. I'm happy to report that my money was well spent. It sounds great, and I get great clean sound at volume. I was using a Yamaha Stereo Reciever before I purchased this, and never knew what I was missing. It brought my JBL N38's to LIFE. I get great tonal response and the quality of the bass is such that it sounds like I've got a mini sub attached to my system! I'm an avid music collector, and all my classic rock, jazz, blues and hip-hop sound great! I can only imagine what a new cd player will add to my setup once I can afford to buy one. A couple of minor points that I ought to mention. First, take the time to "work in" this system by playing it at a resonable volume for a couple of days... It will really come into its own after that. Second, I have experienced one technical issue with the unit. After several months of playing it suddenly experienced a drastic decrease in performance. It ended up being a minor glitch that was fixed under warranty. I haven't had problems since, and I understand that it's not a common occurence with this model. I would recomend this product to anyone looking for great sound at a resonable price. Similar Products Used: Yamaha 400 series Stereo Reciever(1996 model year) |

Strength:
Looks, power, price, sound.
Weakness:
Nothing stands out--which is really the three words that come to mind when I describe this unit. It has no personality, which many people prefer in the audio world. This is a hell of an amp; most of the competition in this price-range strike me as cute toys, but this amp can "roll with the big dogs," if you will. Massive amounts of power, simplistic design and features, not too expensive, and sound that proves audio neutrality is the most beautiful type of sound in existance. Highs are accurate and clean, mids demonstrate body and realism, and lows are deep n' tight--and the best part is, you can drive your speakers to the max, and this amp will handle it all with ease. I do prefer the sounds of the Arcam integrated line-up more, but I saved a few hundred on this baby and have loads more power than if I had gone with the Arcam. Yet for those of you that went looking for an integrated amp and set your price range in the $800-$1500 range and now think you can save a few hundred and be more than happy with the C370, although this may be true in the end, I would strongly suggest checking out some of the Arcam units--they sound quite a bit better, but have less juice. power, dynamic, punchy bass
Weakness:
remote control I use this amp for 3 mounth.I use my amp with Dynaudio audience 82 and monster M950i interconnects between pre to power section and M1.2s for amp to speaker. My cdplayer is NAD C541i. To me i think this combination is the best choice for under $3000.tight, punchy and controled bass, detailed and transparency mid and airy high.excellent dynamic and transient with maximum 34amp/ch on 1 ohm.my speaker is very current hungry and my amp drive it easily.NAD C370 want 0.5 hour time for warming up and i recommend high quality interconnects between pre to power section of amp for better bass and mid.for best result use high current speaker cable ,don't think for an amp at this price you don't need high quality cables.good speaker cable decrease harshness at high level sound and good interconnects give you more detail and stereo image.burning time was more than 100 hours. 100% recommended for who like live music at high level sound at modest price. |
