Strength:

good bass, power, looks, remote,

Weakness:

lot of noise in my opinion

Well, I had sold my Onkyo TX-910, and then thought it would be great to buy Onkyo receiver again. I was very pleased with my old TX-910, which I used for stereo and DVDs. I bought TX-8211 for 200$ at local dealer, connected it to my JPWs sub/sat system, which rumbled house lot of time when I watched DVD. Put some CD in player and there I go. Urghh, where is old sound from Onkyo receiver, well it was gone when I had sold my 910, it has lot of noise when using treble control, midrange not quite accurate, but overall for unit that costed 200$ still OK. It is good stereo receiver, but never a HIFI receiver (noise, noise, noise).
I think it is good time to start constructing new HIFI system.

Strength:

Good quality for the buck; sleep-shutoff timer; ability to control matching CD player through the receiver.

Weakness:

Lots of confusing little buttons!

I have the TX-8210, rather than the 8211, but as far as I know there were no significant changes betwen the two models. I bought this receiver for $159 on clearance in May, 1997, when they brought out the 8211, and at that price it was a bargain. I use it in a bedroom system for quiet listening, and it works just fine. The controls are kind of confusing, but since I mostly leave it on FM or CD, that's not a big problem. One nice feature is the shutoff timer; I can listen to a CD as I fall asleep and the unit will turn itself (and the CD player) off at a preset time. From what I can see thru the ventilation slots on top, the components are as good as you could expect for under $200, but I doubt that this receiver can really crank out major sound. At $159, it rates five stars for value; at full list, 3-4 stars.

Strength:

Simple, focused attention to what really matters in audio:Clean, uncolored sound,build-quality,dependability.

Weakness:

If you care, not the zippiest styling of the bunch...But,I don't care.

If you are about to choose a first serious piece of HIFI,you can't go wrong here. All the basics, which when you include purity of sound, are surprisingly missed by many competing components,at a price that is a slap in the face to the makers of more costly, but less effective products. If what you are asking for is a no-hype,neutral,smooth sound, you will be happy. If you want cheesy Neo-tech,go elsewhere.Ultimate value at this price point-I promise!

Strength:

clear, uncolored, sound. excellent build quality.

Weakness:

for the price, absolutely none

i purchased this unit on ebay not knowing anything about it. but i was looking for a quality unit for my garage. i was pleasantly suprised by the sound quality and the strength of the tuner. 50 watts x 2 @8ohms and 105 watts x 2 @4ohms!!!i will not go as far to compare it to my krell, but, it is outstanding in this price point. onkyo has a great reputation for biulding quality products. this is another fine example.

Strength:

Rock solid construction, clean sounding.

Weakness:

Appearance - the standard black box (but still better than some of the ridiculously decorated newer stuff).

Unusual quality for a consumer-style product. Has worked flawlessly for more than 3 years. I use it to power two sets
of studio monitors.

Strength:

Good Quality, Good price

Weakness:

Only 4 outputs (two pairs of speakers ie you cant have a center or sub) Only stero sound

Great for the price. If you pay more than $200, you are paying too much. Check out www.onecall.com and try to lower the price with them. All in all, a great prduct with clear sound

Strength:

Simple design, deceivingly powerful

Weakness:

The remote lacks individual tuner perset buttons forcing you to scroll through them

What a treat - this thing rocks for a little "50 Watt" receiver. I got a guy at Circuit City of all places who actually knew something about the products he sold! Must be a temp - Anyway, compared to my Yamaha, this thing kicks its ass and pushes it to the ground, stomping up and down on it, yelling DIE! DIE! DIE! The lack of individual tuner preset buttons was the only criteria the wife had because I use a leap-frog IR thing that allows me to turn on the receiver in the luxury of my bathroom. Not having those buttons makes the station a mystery unless you can see the receiver. I bought it anyway - compared to anything else at this price point, Onkyo beats out Kenwood, Yamaha, JVC, and Sony.

Strength:

Powerful, clean, controlled sound

Weakness:

Lack of LED on volume dial, AM/FM control from remote as well as speaker selection control from remote

I purchased the Onkyo TX8211 for a pair of PSB bookshelves in my bedroom, and have not been dissapointed. The system provides superb sound, excellent build quality and simple-easy-to-use functionality.

From a sound standpoint, the 8211 can't be surpassed at the price range. Bass stays tight and controlled even at loud levels, with minimal distortion. Although the sound is rather neutral, my PSB Image 2B's sound a little warmer and a little less brash (a positive effect) on the 8211.

There are only a few weeknesses with the unit. First there is no LED on the volume dial, lending no way to tell in the dark how loud the system is set. I'm curious to as why such a simple feature was overlooked. Also to my surprise I could not manually tune the AM/FM receiver from the remote, only select presets. Also missing from the remote (compared to my larger Onkyo) is the A/B speaker selector (again a simple feature.)

This is a pretty cheap Receiver but better then most in the same price range. Here in sweden the prices are a bit higher then UK and the US.. so the prices i mention might seem very high to some of you. but thats the way it is here.

I payed 375 US$ for this reciver. Other receivers i have compared with is:
Denon DRA-585-RD and NAD 712 they are in the same price range atleast here..
and i think the onkyo gives the best sound.. and got the best Tuner. May not give the most Power. but good enough to power my TDL RTL-3 Speakers in my 20 m2 drom room and it sounds great. It comes in black and in silver i got a silver which is real appealing to the eye.. sure the looks dont matter that much but I sure dont mind that it looks as good as it sounds :)

All in all im very happy about my buy and there for give it a 5.

Strength:

Solid, built well

Weakness:

NONE

I bought this Receiver about 6 months ago and have been very happy with it. Although this stereo is rated 50Watts x2 that it is much more powerful than it sounds because it is 50w RMS not peak. (So a Sony or other popular brand that is claiming 100 watts a channel is really equal to the Onkyo.) I also got a Kenwood Equalizer to go with it and that boosts sound by about 2x.
