Pure, golden sound. Outstanding FM reception. Built like a tank. Beautiful to look at. Great "feel" to the switches.

Some people justifiably complain about the speaker terminals not accepting thick enough wire, but you know what? It does not matter one bit! If they want to, they can find a way to hook yo thick guage wire.

I purchased this unit on EBay from a local resident. The seller personally delivered the unit to me when I was at a conference in a hotel by his home. The 1250 was so heavy that I had trouble re-lifting it after I had rested it on a step to get a better grip. I own a lot of stereo and multi-channel equipment. NOTHING that I have ever owned or heard sounds as golden as my SX-1250 and the RT-707 reel-to-reel hooked up to it. The sound kind of reminds me of when I was a little boy and my father had purchased a monophonic tube amplifier from Radio Shack (there were only two Radio Shacks, one in Boston and one in my home town, New Haven. The SX-1250 beats that old tube amp for warmness and full-spectrum sound. It is also manufactured to outlast my life, and I am fifty! Can't praise the sound or quality enough. Plus, it's good looking. Beauty and brains!

This receiver is a monster at handling high peak power.Had it since 1976, and is the front cahannel for Dolby Digital, and DTS.

Power output (200W/CH into 4ohm), clarity, build quality, looks, and just plain sound quality.

I have been amazed by this receiver since I bought it from my friend's brother 10 years ago. The power output is great, with all those beefy transformers and capacitors, not something you see at Best Buy or Circuit City these days. The clarity, dynamics, and transparency are excellent. The power amps in my HK AVR 520 (which I'm using for surround) are put to shame by this beast. Even my Cerwin Vega RE38s, which are not known for their clarity, sound good on the SX-1250. A good buy indeed.

It is bigger than the new cheezy audio cabinets.

An outstanding receiver. Trememdous clean, transparent power driving 4 Sansui speakers with 17" woofers and a self powered 15" sub woofer. Very dynamic power. These things are built better than any receiver I know about. I also have a Sansui 9090DB which is built like a toy (it's broken a number of times) and doesn't sound nearly as good. I bought my daughter a 1050 SX w/ some Cerwin Vega D-8 and they system is also superb.

Small speaker connectors.

First of all im no audiophile, just a regular enthusiast. This reciever sounds better than all other amps i have used. enough power for any normal fullrange speaker. Easily beats up the black plastic stereos from the 80-90s.

After buying this as a graduation present to myself in 1971, I have rocked Hotels w/ Bob Seger, Steve Miller, & other stars. I've had bands use for a PA. In the last 10 yrs., I've tried desperatly to get fixed.("no parts available"). I recently found Vintage Electronics. Bob will fix for 195.00. Cost me 45.00 to ship. I can't wait for my honey to come home. This unit is a must have if you can find one. I will never part with this monster. No other reciever has ever compared.

Difficulty in taking thick speaker cable.

I have used my Pioneer sx1250 almost continuously since 1978. It broke down at the end of 2000 and I despaired of ever getting it fixed. I then bought a Marantz 6010 KI amp with matching tuner which I thought sounded pretty good. My wife then persuaded me to try to get the Pioneer fixed which took several months and cost £220! Out of curiosity I wired it up after bringing it back home and we were totally blown away by the awesome sound. Once again theSX1250 has pride of place on my rack and even after nearly 25 years I cannot imagine replacing it. I use it with Mission 753 speakers;Marantz CD6000ki cd player;Pro-ject Perspective turntable;Philips cdr951 cd recorder;Philips DVD Recorder dvr880; and Philips DVD player dvd751. The SX1250 takes all these modern sources with no problems at all and the tuner is superb-we love it;after all it is older than our children!

AKAI AA-1050 Stereo Receiver, Manafactured ? 1976. Very good cosmetics, works well,loads of power,? power output, very quiet, clean responce,smooth silk like tuning controls. I have greatly enjoyed using this product,what a great bargin, true collectors would consider this a great addition to their HiFi collection,I have found a new intrest in searching these older units out for a collection of my own.

recently purchased this unit in mint condition. wanted to consolidate space in my stereo cabinet. replaced adcom separates with this unit. it's everything i have heard about this unit and more. delivers clean neutral sound with exceptional fm. using this unit to run a pair of epos es 22's. it handles them with ease. you can't find a new decent stereo receiver out there these days. unless you want to spend $3500.00 for a krell. fortunately, there are still units like this around. purchased this unit for $300.00, I can hardly contain myself. i already have two separate ac3 setups in the house and didn't want another av receiver. this unit had been professionally cleaned and serviced with no scratches on the face or the cabinet!

outstandng build quality, excellent feel of switches and controls. Not cheap like my Tecnics AV receiver. These pioneers where built on quality not stamped out plastic like these AV receivers. Pioneer has superior sound over the tecnics. It is true that quality never goes out of style. I also own a 1050 and the same type of quality is in it also. What happened to unit quality like this? Kenwood, Sansui, Marantz,Pioneer these units put to total shame the new AV units!! Why did the manufacturers stop building quality. I think if you can find a very nice 1250 snag it!!!! you will not be dissapointed trust me
