Sony STR-DE545 Receivers

DESCRIPTION

With Sony's STR-DE545 driving your A/V system, you're in store for all the thrills digital home theater has to offer! This A/V receiver has super-precise, 24-bit processing built in for Dolby Digital and DTS. Pop in a 5.1-channel DVD and find out what the fuss is all about! This Sony also has the Dolby Pro Logic decoding you need to experience multichannel surround sound from sources like a HiFi VCR or stereo TV. With 100 watts per channel in stereo mode, or 100 watts x 5 in home theater mode, you get the multichannel power you need for sonic clarity, realism, and impact. Speaking of realism, the 'DE545's built-in Digital Signal Processing includes Digital Cinema Sound exclusive soundfield circuitry based on acoustic measurements made at Sony Pictures Studios movie production stages. You'll hear movie soundtracks the way the producers and directors intended! When it comes to connections, the STR-DE545 has you covered. You get 3 inputs for digital sources (2 optical, 1 coaxial), 3 A/V inputs (including one S-video, and one 5.1-channel input) plus 3 inputs for your audio-only sources. A second set of main speaker outputs means you can wire a deck, patio, or separate room for stereo sound

First I would like to say is my 545 rocks! Now for all you guys who say all you hear is Hissing. Stop being so damn cheap & replace every conect you have & buy some real cables. I'm running nothing but Monster Cable, & all I hear is ............. get the point. You will never you know the true potenial of your equipment unless you replace the blood lines, this goes for speaker wire too. Lesson over.

Weakness:

no input selector on remote.

I thought it was about time to make a change from anologe to digital. I did alot of shopping around before i made my decision, I looked at a alot of receivers before i purchased the sony Kenwood,Jvc and Pioneer. I have been a diehard Pioneer man for years and I thought i would give Sony a try and i am not disapointed. It is very good product for the money.

Strength:

digital inputs, good sound

Weakness:

Bad Hissing Noise

I really should have done some research before buying this receiver but I headed out to the store with the idea of getting myself a good receiver for a great deal. I saw this Sony 545 and it had everything I wanted, digital and dts decoding, a ton of audio and video inputs, and nice power. After a while I began to notice an excessive hissing coming out of all my speakers when nothing was playing through them. I brought it to a friends house, hooked it up and there it was, that damn hissing noise which was much more excessive than with the receiver he had. Well, right now the receiver is in Bristol, Penn being worked on and I picked up the 845 model. It's definitly worth the extra dollars.
