    I'm a DJ since 1985 and I continue using the 1200s at parties and showsThey've never broken !!! Now I've recently bought a 1200 MK4 (they have
some improvements, but not many)and I'm really proud of them...
Don't let them fool you, the Vestax, Gemini or Numark turntables don't
    compare to the Technics.
VERY IMPORTANT: Get the best cartridge (like an Ortofon Night Club
    or the Stanton Groovemaster)

All MKIIs (SL1200, 1210 and the limited ed.) are the best turntables a DJ can get. Although they have all the necessary adjustments and the S-shaped tonearm is excellent, is not a machine strictly for the audiophiles. Only the fat that it's a direct drive (and therefore easy to pick up vibrations) should be enough for any audiophile to turn it down. On the other hand the direct drive motor helps the platter to start extremely fast, which is a must for any DJ. I had my MKIIs for almost 4 years now and I never had any problems. I have really abused them with skratching and all that "weird" tricks "turntablists" do and they are still as new!!! Best Buy for any DJ, skratch DJ, radio station or club.Check http://users.acropolis.net/marwax

My nephew has one of the 1200's. It sounds TERRIBLE. No one should even consider buying one for their music system. Even the old worn out 16 year old LP12 that I just Threw Out with the garbage sounds infinitely better!

The Technics Sl-1200MK2 is one of the most excellent turntables on the market.I suggest you go for the SL-1200MK4 which is the one I got. The quality of the turntable is good and reliable to all those "scratch mixing" handling some DJs like to do. For the cost, it beats many of the most expensive models.

If you're planning on being a DJ spinning vinyl, 2 of these decks are a must. They are the industry standard. Forget Gemini. Technics are it.

If you're planning on just sitting in your listening room and dropping a record on, note this: The Technics does not have automatic arm return. You'll have to get up and return arm yourself. Other than that, with the Technics flying of off the shelves faster than Guitars, you'll never find a better deck for the price. Make sure you choose your stylus carefully depending on what you're doing. I use the Trackmaster II's on both of mine.
