DH Labs Silver Sonic T-14 Speaker Cables

DH Labs Silver Sonic T-14 Speaker Cables

DESCRIPTION

Silver Sonic T-14 High Resolution speaker cable was designed by D.H. Labs to provide the highest quality sound at a much lower price than competing cables. It uses the finest materials available, including silver, oxygen-free copper and a pure Teflon dielectric. The strands are then tightly wound and extruded with our Teflon insulation. Silver Sonic T-14 uses DuPont PTFE, which is the highest grade of Teflon (and the most expensive).

Spades could be better

I didn't expect much when I bought this cheap stuff for a second system in the basement. After awhile I noticed that the inexpensive system was sounding better than I remembered (Thiel speakers, Sony XA210-ES, Parasound amplification) and later I decided to try it with my much more expensive rig. I've never been a "cable person" i.e one that spent 10-15% of my system cost on cables but the Silver Sonics toasted my Audioquest Midnight reference in the transparency area. Audioquest put a not unpleasant veil over older brighter CD's but was not nearly as neutral. The Silver Sonics puts nothing between the sound and me and I value neutrality very highly. I couldn't believe that these inexpensive cables (even with bi-wiring) could be so much better than the Audioquest. But they are. Many people feel that silver cables are too bright and some people might find my system too revealing and sterile. I'd probably find theirs syrupy and cloudy. We all hear tonal balance differently and I urge everyone to test cables before buying. I have no need to do so any longer as I've found my cable. I've listened to $1000 cable that wasn't this neutral. I'm amazed (and my bank account is happy, too!)

Strength:

Detail, clarity, fast.
Pretty neutral, very little sonic signature of it's own ..........

Weakness:

Need to bi-wire or shotgun to realize maximum bass potential = more $ but still well beyond worth it.

Silver plated copper automatically conjures up thoughts of brassy, harsh, nasty treble. Well, DH labs solved that problem with this stuff. The T-14 just sounds "right".

Cables just prior to these were DIY Cat5 braid:

I hooked up and my initial thoughts upon power up were "yep, silver plated copper". The sound was thin and the highs were brassy. So, doing the right thing, I removed them, and hooked them up on a second system to do the burn in thing.....
A couple days later, back they went into the main system and the transformation was immediately evident. The sound was much fuller and the clarity through the midrange and treble along with added detail on the top end was clearly apparent, not a subtle difference. The top end was a tad brighter while the bass response did not seem quite as extended nor did it retain quite the impact. These differences were subtle however. In addition, upon analyzing things, the "lacking" bass was more a perception due to the slightly hotter treble than it was a reality.

The T-14's improved with age over the next month or so retaining all the clarity, speed and detail while treble response smoother out even further presenting very balanced sonics. In the final analysis of the bass response, extension actually seemed to remain intact but impact was slightly reduced. Overall, a very worthwhile improvement over the CAT-5's which I found to be excellent in themselves.

Perfection ...... time to ponder the bass thing. Reading reviews here and talking to a couple dealers, a double run seemed to be the ticket and as it turned out, a double run did prove to be the answer and beyond.
I was really surprised as to the extent that it made a difference. After burn-in, the balance struck by going with the double run was exceptional. No apparent changes through midrange and treble but bass impact as well as speed had now surpassed the Cat-5's (verified by swapping). Bass was fast and clean with solid impact. Midbass response also was stronger but remained completely well mannered.
Overall balance now took on a "warmer" character yet all of the midrange and treble clarity and detail remained completely intact. Things were sounding great before but this was a very welcome upgrade indeed.
Very impressive and well worth the extra cost of the double run. And, still an amazing bargain as far as costs in cableland go.
I'm extremely pleased with these cables and with the service I received from Value Audio.

A single run is excellent in and of itself and I can highly recommend these cables in that configuration (4 stars).
To get the utmost out of them and your system, I'd definitely recommend a double run or bi-wire if your mains handle all the bass duties (no sub). The cost, if dealer built, is less than double and it still makes these cables an outstanding value as they are arguably among the best.

Strength:

Very revealing with detail and clarity

Weakness:

tight but not full bass. Not heavy enough.

First off I would like to say I love these cables. However, I find that although they are clear and articulate, the bass department could use a little weight. I guess the word I'm looking for is authority, especially in the mid to low end. I would give a visual of these cables performance as being the gentle and careful artist painting with very complex colors with every move calculated and thought out. That is what I think most of us want in a cable but if it has to come at the expense of not having a slightly more robust sound then I think I'm going to either try a double run of T-14's or go with the Q-10's.

Overall, an excellent cable at an unbelievable price but I just need a little more meat with my veggies and wine please.

I'm surprised this is only the 4th review on these outstanding speaker cables. I'm surprised DH Labs can make it fast enough. I'm telling you that y'all should get some quick! Combined with the excellent DH Lab interconnects, I'm hearing great music I never heard before on CDs that I've heard at least a hundred times. Edmonton area guys (and I know you're out there - or in here, whatever) - call Wes @ Classic Hi-Fi and tell him I sent ya! It probably won't help the price but at least you'll have some really good speaker cable - eh?
All this raving and I've only got some average equipment!

Strength:

Excellent Value

Weakness:

Thin bass in a single run. Double run solved that.

I run 2 pairs (shotgun configuration) of 20' T-14 to my Coincident Speaker Tech. Triumph Signatures (not biwired). These cables are perfect in my system. Very revealing but never harsh or grainy. They took a good 2 months to break in with listening 4-8 hours a day. One day everything just opened up and my speakers completely disappeared. I love the stiffness of these cables since I have them raised up on porcelain cable lifts and they do not sag between the lifts which are about 16" apart.

Amazing!!!

I have been searching for a good speaker cable and had been demoing many cables through my local dealer. I originally started with Monster Cable and decided that I need to upgrade. I tried Kimber 4vs for a couple of weeks and it was better but not what I was looking for. I wanted more deatil. We then tried Nordost Superflatline and suddenly I had all the detail I wanted but after another 2 weeks I was complaining of hard strident sound. My dealer said "we can fix that", so he sent me home to try Blue Heaven. At last!!! Just what I wanted, but how can I afford it? After trying it out for a couple of weeks I had to take it back and work out a solution with my dealer. I was resigned I would have to live with the Flatline. As we were looking through an old box of cables he had lying around we found some of this DH LABS SILVER SONIC T-14 stuff. I had heard of it and read many good reviews. The dealer offer it to me at $100 bucks for a 10ft biwired pair. How could I loose? I took it home and was amazed. It has all the detail of the Nordost without any hardness or brightness. Low level detail and background is wonderful. Bass is truly musical, not bloated or heavy. Midrange is perfect and as uncolored as any cable that I have heard. But the best thing about this cable is its price. I got a great deal but even at full retail of $4 per ft it is an absolute steal. It kill anything at its price and is as good as cables I have owned for $1000 or more. Most will think I am crazy but I will not spend anymore money on cable.

I have already wired my center channel with it for home theater and am currently waiting on additional cable to internally wire my speakers. I'm going all out!!! Its that good.

Strength:

Very neutral cable; excellent overall presentation of the music; brings out the location of each instrument and increases soundstage and detail

Weakness:

None at this price (about $4 a foot)

This speaker cable is truly amazing for the price! In short, it presents the music in a very accurate way with accurate timbral balance and more believable soundstaging. There is a delicacy and detail to the music that this cable seems to bring out well. Why spend hundreds or even thousands on good speaker cable when the T-14 will compare favorably to most cables out there? Mega Kudos to DH Labs for formulating a speaker cable that rivals many of the best, and is affordable to boot!

I really satisfied with this cable, and suprisingly I got it very cheap (is anybody can get this cable for $2/feet ?)
Detail and very clear more pronouciation than my audio technica, worth 5 stars for value, cause its far cheaper and comparably equal with Transparent cables link 100 (its $110 per meter pairs). Good job Dave (but sorry for the interconect BL-1, not really satisfied)

As a newbie to audioland I got purchased these cables mostly out of curiousity. I was interested in finding out if the extra $ spent on cables would make an audible difference. For whatever reason I did not find much difference. I even did the double blind thing and had my friend switch the cables with my back turned. It may be that my ears are shot because of listening to too much LOUD music. It may be that my system is not good enough to produce sound worth of the cables(Yamaha 995, Sony ES7CDP, Infinity RS5's). Anyway, these cables just didn't give me that WOW experience I was expecting after reading the previous reviews. Because I havn't heard anything better, however, I am giving them a 4.

I never believed that a cable wire could make any difference in the audio sound, It Just didn’t make sense to me at start. But since My audio system is near complete I wanted to see if I could take it to a higher level. I was wrong; DH lab has made a remarkable improvement on my audio system. More Air, Tighter bass, simply more musical and it doesn’t take more than a moment to hear the difference. The sound gets better every day during break in. After listening to the difference I ran to get the BL-1 inter connectors, which made an even greater improvement on my system. I don’t know if these are the best cables out there but I am sure pleased by their performance. I noticed that my amplifier heats up more probably due to the easier flow of the audio signal coming from the pre-amp and leaving to my speakers. For the money D.H Lab rules.I also believe that you need good equiptment to realy hear the difference. If your using Bose speakers and a crappy reciever then dont waist your money on cable. D.H Lab did to cable what Mondial did to amplifiers at a low cost.
