DH Labs Silver Sonic T-14 Speaker Cables

DH Labs Silver Sonic T-14 Speaker Cables

DESCRIPTION

Silver Sonic T-14 High Resolution speaker cable was designed by D.H. Labs to provide the highest quality sound at a much lower price than competing cables. It uses the finest materials available, including silver, oxygen-free copper and a pure Teflon dielectric. The strands are then tightly wound and extruded with our Teflon insulation. Silver Sonic T-14 uses DuPont PTFE, which is the highest grade of Teflon (and the most expensive).

Strength:

Clear sound with no distortions, good price

Weakness:

None that I can tell

For the past four months, I have tested out the silver sonics on a denon 3300, infinity overture 2 speakers, and denon 460 cd player, and I can barely tell the difference between these cables and the monster thx cables. I used them in conjunction with the DH Labs BL-1 interconnects. Mainly, I isten to classical, jazz, pop, and techno. For the price, they are good cables. However, I still can't tell them from apart from cheap 14/16 gauge speaker cables. Perhaps these cables are better suited for high end systems.

Got these cables about a week ago from Jeff Delman at Value Audio (valueaudio@aol.com). Jeef is terrific to deal with. He had me double check my binding posts for size to make sure I got the correct sized spades (good thing, I have 5/16 posts). The termination was perfect, shipping was free, and the price was excellent.

On to the sound! Out of the box, somewhat of an improvement over the Indigo and Kimber. Break them in for a couple of days and Wow!!! The bass was improved, midrange was outstanding and the highs were controlled. Soundstage was further out in the room. Speakers: AE Aegis One's.

One word of caution: these cables look wimpy. If you are looking for the garden hose effect for that industrial/macho look, I would pass on these. They look like Indigo on a diet. But if you want cables that sound like they cost 4-5 time their price get these!

These are GREAT cables!!!

I've been using budget cables for my 2 stereo systems and thought they worked fine. But I've decided to upgrade speaker cables to see how much better it could sound. And thanks for the reviews below, I've decided to purchase a bi-wired pair of the DH Labs T-14 for my stereo system which is 10 years old. And I was surprised at how much detail these cables brought out! So I bought a 2nd pair (double-run) for my other system which I recently bought. And I was even more surprised at the sound improvement because I have the Thiel CS1.5 speakers, which is very revealing. My 2 pairs of T-14 cables already sound great without being broken in yet. I might post up another review after they are broken in.

For those of you who are looking for really nice cables, save yourselves some time and money and get the T-14s from Mr. Jeff Delman at Value Audio (valueaudio@aol.com). He will customize the cables specifically for your needs (and will give good advices like a friend). Jeff is very professional when it comes to audio equipment; you'll get a good bargain from him at the same time!

I could go on and on, but I'll just say that you simply can't go wrong with the T-14s, especially if you get them from Jeff! I give it 5 stars for the cables and another 5 stars for Jeff!

For your information, my systems consist of the following:

1. AR TSW-910 speakers
Hafler DH-500 power amp
Hafler 110 preamp
DH Labs T-14 bi-wired cables

2. Thiel CS1.5 speakers
Marantz SR7000 receiver
DH Labs T-14 double-run cables w/ Audioquest spades and 'Z-Plug' bananas

Strength:

true transmission of sound

Amazing... I've been using the T-14s for about 2 months now, and the sounds from my system are more natural as time goes by. I've posted a review on may, which I initially some brightness from changing the cables; but after over 100 hours of braking in, the brightness was completely gone, and the music from the speakers are transmitted in a much more natural way!

I haven't compare other speaker cables at this price range. But I greatly doubt that there's another pair of cables that can outperform the T-14s, if it's true transmission (from your amps) that you want.

Thanks again Jeff (at Value Audio, who I bought 2 pairs of these wonderful cables from)!

Strength:

Tight bass, large soundstage

Weakness:

None for the price

A double run pair of these babies is all you need. They produce a deep and wide soundstage and add clarity to the mid-range. The bass is deep but tight and natural sounding; the highs are liwuid and tranparent. For the price and twice the price, these cables can not be beat.

What a tremendous value!! DH labs has done a great job with the engineering and also with finding dealers with a passion for their product. I dealt with Donald Winslow at W Enterprises NW (www.wenw.cc). He was terrific. He loves what he is doing and in professional in every respect.

The cables, after a 1 week break in period, have proven to be a tremendous asset to my system. It makes my Mirage M7-si's come to life. The highs are much more pronounced without being harsh, the mids are clear, and the bass is tight. I find myself listening in the stereo mode and shying away from movies, as the listening is so much more enjoyable than before. Much more what mirage probably had in mind, and much more to my liking.

Bravo DH Labs. Great product/Great price/Great dealer.

Strength:

GIVES THE IMPRESSION OF SOUNDING LIKE AN EXPENSIVE SILVER CABLE, NICE TIGHT BASS.

Weakness:

VERY GRAINY AND BRIGHT.

THIS CABLE WILL AT FIRST IMPRESS THE LISTENER BECAUSE IT SOUNDS EXTREMELY CLEAN AND DETAILED. BUT AFTER A WHILE YOU WILL BEGIN TO REALIZE THAT YOU ARE NOT ENJOYING THE SOUND AT ALL BECAUSE IT IS ARTIFICIALLY BRIGHT AND DOES NOT AT ALL HAVE THE SOUND OF REAL MUSIC. FOR THE SAME PRICE I WOULD RATHER GET A HIGH QUALITY COPPER CABLE. THE BASS WAS THE BIGGEST STRENGTH. WOULD MAKE A VERY GOOD SUBWOOFER CABLE.

Strength:

Large soundstage, smooth, open and transparent, neutral sound

Weakness:

Spade connector could be better

I have used a good number of good sounding speaker cables
in my system, like Kimber, MIT, Cardas, Audioquest, Geortz, etc. These cables are priced from $100 to $700.

With these cables in my system, I didn't hear the sound I'm
looking for. I'm aware that duplicating live sound (the real
thing) through my electronic system is impossible. I'm just
trying to get my system to sound as natural as possible. I
believe (like you audiophiles out there)that any component in the system can be the weakest link and components must be
mated very well to achieve the best possible sound through a system. I suspected that my system's problem was cable
interfacing.

So I continued searching for cables in my price range, until I ran across reviews of the DH Labs T14 speaker cable. The reviews were very positive 90% of the time. I figured I'll give it a try (30 days trial and money back guarantee if I'm not satisfied, I can't go wrong.)

I purchased the DH Labs T14 speaker cables from Bob W. of Audionut.com. Bob W. is a real pro, a very good person to deal with. He is also very helpful. (602)944-5505.

I have read that the sound of the T14 (out of the box) is not convincing, it has to be broken-in for at least 25 hours. The T14s came and I tried it anyway(out of the box for curiosity). The sound was bright and a little bit grainy. So I took them off from my first system and installed them on my second system (for break-in).

After the T14s were broken-in for about 50 hours, I moved them back to my first system. When the music started to play, I was impressed with the sound I heard. The brightness and grain were gone. There is a good layering of the upper frequency band. The sound is smooth, open and transparent. Neutral from top to bottom, large soundstage.
Bass is tight and controlled (could use more bass weight).
With my HSU sub in the system, I have no problems.

After listening for a good number of days, I asked myself
"what if I double run the T14s?" Okay, back to Bob W. and
told him to send me another pair. I couldn't wait to hear
the result. This time the T14s went straight to my second system for break-in.

After 50 hours of break-in time, I installed them in my first system parallel with the T14s in place (double run).
I heard some improvement. Now the sound is more dynamic, there is more bloom and more weigth in the lower frequency.
I found the overall sound better than single run.

All my observations were based on the T14s mated with the following components:

AMC CD9 Transport
Monarchy Audio DIP
Musical Fidelity X24/96 DAC
Musical Fidelity PSU
DH Lab D75 (Dig. Cable)
DH Lab BL-1 (Interconnect Cable)
INMAC Line Conditioner
Precision Fidelity Passive Pre-Amp (Tube)
Creek OBH 12 Passive Pre-Amp (Xsistor)
VPI Magic Bricks
Vibrapods
Vandersteen Speakers (Full Range)
HSU Subwoofer (used only when needed-on some
recordings)
Hafler 500 AMP (heavily modified)

FYI:
My room size is average, and I would say acoustically average (with 2'x4' RPG panels in front and side walls). All electronic components sits on vibrapods and weigted with 1 1/4" steel plates with rubber pads glued underneath.
T14s were lifted off the floor with glass blocks. I also heard its most natural sound, on this Jazz CD: "The water is wide: by Charles Lloyd. The recording is awesome.
If you like jazz, try this CD with the T14s.

Final Note:
To my ears and in my system, the T14 is a revealing cable.
It has no character of its own. Maybe system dependent? (try before purchase). Is there a cable out there that can
beat the T14? Yes, but you have to spend a lot more. The sound is up there with some of the big boys. This cable is
that good. It will stay in my system for a long time.

Highly Recomended (especially double run)
A must auditon cable
5 stars for value and sound

Thanks Darren H. of DH Labs for formulating this remarkable
and affordable product.

Strength:

Best sounding cable in the pricerange I've heard

Weakness:

Not quite as much bass "slam" as I'd like

I'e had a lot of cables in my systems over the years. Some, cost a lot more than the DH Labs. I don't think any cable I've had has OVERALL sounded better than the DH. Considering the price, it is the only way to go. I intend on trying their newer, more upscale stuff as soon as I save up my pennies. Oh, got them from audioc.com UPS lost my first order, ACI sent out replacements the day I called without waiting to try to track them (I really needed them by the weekend). ACI has always been great to deal with . .

Turned my entry level system that can hang with the best of 'em.

Weakness:

A little bit stiff.

First off, I would like to say that I am not an audiophile, but I am far beyond the curcuit city crowd. (No offense to those circuit city shoppers)I am in college and am offended by the sound that comes pouring out of adjacent rooms through 200 dollar AIWA mini systems. It actually strikes a nerve in my brain forcing me to retreat to my room. (I know that sounds very snobby, but those of us who have been exposed to good sound just can't go back- those of us know who we are). I have been collecting stereo equipment since I was about 11 years old. (okay I was a nerd)I can finnaly say that I have a competant system now that I am 22. There are not many guys my age that are in the same mindframe as me as they look at a speakers woofer size to assess its worth. Let me tell you a little about my system.

*Marantz CD-48, modified with vibrapods, mute resistors clipped and heavily dampened.
* Homemade all silver interconnect (AMAZING)
*Parasound HCA 750A Power Amp, (No preamp used)
*Pinnacle AC-650
*Pinnacle Digital Sub 150
*Pioneer PDR-555RW
*Studio Tech ST30 steel sand filled stands

Now on tho the cables.
In a word.....actually 3. OH MY GOD!!!
Is this MY system? Somebody pinch me!!! Upon hooking up my system with these cables my sound was transformed. The highs sparkled through. At first i left one channel with my RS megacable......right out of the box these things TROUNCHED the mega cable. It was like somebody washed the windows. Even my cassette listening roomate noticed the difference. The midrange was SOOOO much smoother. And all this was from the first time they were ever put to work. The concern with the bass that some have encountered is non existant due to that I am using them with bookshelf speakers and have a competent sub. Soundstaging? COME AND GET IT!!! Pop in some Ella Fitzgerald and hear a live perfomance in your living room. And these cables are only going to get better. Mine are only about an hour and a half old and I love them so much that I was compelled to write this review now. After break in I will get back to all of you. EXCELLENT PRODUCT!
