Strength:

Better than run-o-the-mill cable

Weakness:

Not as good as decent interconnects

I used the Monster subwoofer cable for more than a year and was quite happy with it. It was definitely better than standard RCA cables. But, I recently bought a pair of MIT Terminator 4 interconnects ($40 from AudioAdvisor.com). The packaging claimed "better bass." Not intending to use them for my sub, I thought "why not?" After nearly a month of using the MIT T4's, I've noticed a huge difference. The bass from my sub is much more musical and less boomy than before with the Monster sub cable. I used to get LFE effects that sounded out of control. Now, I just get a natural effect. For example, in Apollo 13 during the launch sequence, the subwoofer used to make a noise that sounded like someone banging on a very deep drum. With the T4's, there is now a more natural sounding (and feeling) roar as the rocket is launched.

My advice: ditch the Monsters and go for the MIT's (that actually goes for all around). Take the same money you would have spent on the Monster's and buy the same-priced cable from an audiophile brand: Audioquest, Kimber, MIT, XLO. Of course, I can only vouch for the MIT's.
