cheap cheap and more cheap
Weakness:
not high end sound but... After reading about these on this site I rushed out and bought the 4 remaing pairs in town. Cost me 4.97 each. Looks are alright the packaging probably cost 2.00. Anyway needed some interconnects to use on my dvd player (3 pair needed to run to dolbly ready denon 2400 receiver in my modest system.) I experimented with some cables costing about 25 times more but..For explosions and alien space craft etc. I am quite happy with results. Saved about 150.00 which I invested in good quality video cables where I could see the difference. No I won't be using in my kilobucks high end audio system but thats not what they were bought for anyway.I felt slightly guilty for about 1 sec. when the salesperson rang up but hey for once a poor guy gets a break.. Strength:
Great price! Good construction. Good detail, beter than audioquest Topaz.
Weakness:
RadioShack name. Not expensive enough for some audiophiles. I agree with I love these cables. I have even talked to Frank VanAlstine on the phone, and we were talking about cables. He said that Radioshack cables are good cables. And he even uses them on his system!!! Similar Products Used: Monster Cable, Audioquest Topaz |

Appeals to those with common sense.
Weakness:
Doesn't come in designer colors. Before deciding whether to shell out more than what these cost for my new system, I shined a flashlight inside my new B & W speakers to see what wires this "in the know" company thought appropriate to connect the drivers to the external speaker terminals. As expected, ordinary wire, no designer overpriced speaker cable here. So let me get this straight, when you connect expensive designer cables to your speaker terminals which then route the signal through some ordinary wire, this last six inches or so doesn't count right? Limited availability First, I'd have to describe myself as a casual audio enthusiast. I've been slowly upgrading my home theater system over the last year and audioreview.com has been a great resource. After just upgrading my TV and Speakers I browsed over to the cable section and happened to read the reviews of these Radio Shack cables. Ever since I've had a stereo I've just used the cheap cables that came with the stereo/vcr/cd player etc. In fact, I've never given much thought to the interconnect cables between components but at the price people were mentioning I thought I'd give it a try. After going to Radio Shacks website, putting in my zip code and calling 7 or 8 stores nearby I found one with 3 sets in stock. I ran over and bought all 3 for a little over $15 and came home and installed them between by cd player, vcr, and dvd player. To be honest I didn't expect to hear much of a difference. I was wrong. There was a VERY definite improvement in audio quality. I certainly can't speak for the higher end audio cables but for the price, and if you have a mid/high range audio system with some of those cheapie grey generic interconnects I don't think you can go wrong. I went out and bought the other 4 sets I could find in the area. Not too bad, I paid $35 for what would have originally cost $140. |

none for price Hey Illinois, why don`t you read the article by John Dunlavy on cables.Of course what does he know,he only designs VERY highend speakers you @$%#@ IDIOT.He is not the only designer who says and knows this.I think you should do your homework before you run your mouth.Go to Digital Theater Forum and dig that article up yourself and read it. |

Saves money so more can be spent on where you really can hear a difference---the equipment!
Weakness:
Again, not expensive enough for some snooty audiophiles I did neglect to mention in my last review the present equipment in my rack. So, for the young man from Illinois: Similar Products Used: Regular Monster Speaker cable |

Very affordable
Weakness:
The looks I would not get upset with the young man from IL.He should be careful because if his or her mother and father get home and catch him on the computer again,he might get grounded.I agree with Brian on most of his comments.Radio Shack cables do a great job with most systems. It does vary from different equipment.Do they make some systems sound bad?I would have to say NO. Price
Weakness:
Not pricey enough to justify the claims by idiot audiophiles who claim they can hear a difference This cable is sufficient for any system. It's the electronics that make a difference in the sound---not the cable. There is no difference between pure copper 12 guage wire and others costing hundreds, even thousands, more. Those claiming to hear a difference are either trying to justify their purchase or are sales people in high end stores trying to sell expensive cable. Similar Products Used: Regular Monster Cable |

Availability I am not an "audiophile" and am the happy owner of what I consider to be a mid-range system. I've read much of the postings regarding the debate on how interconnects affect the quality of a system. Bottom line seems to be, if you're willing to spend the money then go for it. Some say they can't hear a difference, some talk about better soundstaging, tighter bass etc...from differences in interconnects. It makes sense that interconnects which deliver the cleanest, least degraded signal would be better. Is it audibly better -- that depends on many things -- one's hearing and the quality of other component's in the system come to mind. After listening to some other interconnects and reading the reviews on this website, I came to the conclusion that niether my system nor hearing justify very expensive interconnects -- though I don't want ones that weaken my system either. Enter the Radio Shack Home Theatre cables, which I finally found after an extensive search at 5.97. Definately better than the OEM interconnects. Can't say how they compare to the real expensive one's. Just know that I'm happy with them. Similar Products Used: RS Gold |
