Strength:
Open, detailed. Good soundstage.
Weakness:
Not forgiving on bad recordings. My Nakamichi MB2s starting having laser problems (occasional skipping) after 8 years, so I decided to buy a new changer. In side by side tests the Marantz is considerably more detailed and open. It's not as warm as the Nak, and less forgiving on bad recordings. All in all, I'm quite pleased with the player. Strength:
Nice, fast, quiet carousell mechanism Looks good Lots of usefull features
Weakness:
Plastic face plate Thin sounding, lifeless on most material That price is in Canadian $. Over the past two years I have been steadily modernizing and upgrading my HT components to the point where I now have a decent mid-line system, and an ear to match. The last component to be upgraded was the CD player. After living with an old 1987 Philips single CD player, I decided to get a changer. I had borrowed a friend's Sony changer for a while and liked the convenience of the carousell, and also the improved sound over the Philips. I decided on the Marantz CC3000, partly because of the looks, decent reviews, and the fact that it would match my SR6200 receiver. However, after getting this player and listening to it for a week, I returned it. Compared to the older Sony changer that had analogue Outs only (I forget the model number), the Marantz sounded thin and lifeless on most material (one exception was the Cowboy Junkies' Trinity Session, which sounded fine). Using the CC3000's Coaxial Out to my Marantz SR6200 improved the sound only slightly, but it still lagged way behind the old Sony changer. Looks like I'm getting a new Sony SCD-C222ES to try and recapture that Sony performance, and get SACD capability as well. The price of the CC3000 is attractive, but you get what you pay for. Strength:
- Good high frequency reproduction - Volume control on remote
Weakness:
- Unreliable quality (carousel rotates non-stop) - User unfriendly (poor display, scans discs during power up and changing discs, no music calendar, no direct disk access, small buttons, etc.) - Inadequate bass output - Stereo separation not up to par with competition. - Extremely poor tech. support (3 yr warranty???) - Manual not as detailed as one would like. After my Sony CD player started to intermittently act up after 10 years of use, I decided to move up to a Marantz. Or at least I thought I was. From a side by side comparison between the Sony and the Marantz, I can say that the Sony is a better player. The Marantz has superior reproduction of the high frequencies and has a volume control on the remote whereas the Sony does not. That's about it for the Marantz. The Sony has better bass output, greater stereo separation and is vastly more user friendly and reliable than the Marantz. Remember, this is in comparison to a player that is half the price and a decade old. After 3 weeks of play, the Marantz started to rotate from disk to disk non-stop. The only way to end it was to shut off the power. This has happened twice. The display is unlegible from a distance of more than a few feet, the remote is of poor design and even the owner's manual is poorly written. To top it off, the Marantz Tech. support has proven to be quite inconsequential (i.e. no reply from tech. support). This gives one an indication of the support the manufacturer is willing to give to its product. Similar Products Used: Sony |

I purchased this unit to utilize the multi-disk aspect in order to satisfy my wife's needs. I have it sitting below "my" cd player (Arcam CD72 DiVA) which is a highly acclaimed British player at triple the cost. To my dismay there is so little difference between the two players that to my ears at least that is indistinguishable. Maybe if I sat and really concentrated, played identical tracks on each player, switched back and forth between the two, I "may" find a broader, deeper, airier, (insert audiophile jargon here) but I haven't done that. Now I feel the need to throw more money at the Arcam and bring it upgrade it to the CD92...grrrr My system: Arcam CD72 Marantz cc3000 Bryston 3BST Marantz SR 19 KimberKable 8TC IXOS (high end interconnects) B&W CDM 9NT's/7NT's and centre channel Velodyne subs |

Strength:
Quiet, Price, Great Sound for the $. Made by a quality company.
Weakness:
None for the price. Well I wish it had a blue power light, I'm crazy for the blue LED. Sound Valves has a blue LED as one of their trademarks. Sound Valves is a great company, if anyone wants to look into them just go to www.soundvalves.com They have great customer service and product. I bought this cd player because of the reviews here, and for the Marantz name. It's a quality cd player. Build quality is excellent and the sound quality is incredable. The last reviewer said that he has his hooked up through digital coaxil cable to his reciever. What that does is use the DAC in the reciever and not the one in the cd player (which gives a cd player it's signiture sound). So if he likes the sound he should attribute it to the reciever not the cd player. I can tell you if anyone wants a good quality cd player, they can't go wrong with the CC-3000. It's never failed me and I have found absolutly nothing wrong with it. My system consits of. Strength:
sound quality, controls, remote, tray mechanism (very quick)
Weakness:
.. cannot honestly think of anything that bothers me... :) This is part of my first HT setup. It is my first 'quality' CD changer and I couldn't be happier with my choice. After researching HT for the last six months, it didn't take long to get revews and opinions about this line of changers. Connected with a digital coax cable through my Denon 1802 receiver powering JBL S26II speakers, the sound is absolutely wonderful. The music is so clear I can actually pick out tiny flaws in instrumental parts of music that I could never hear before. The build is excellent as well. The controls are layed out very intuitively and the tray/droor is very stable and quick. Overall, this is nothing short of an excellent CD/CD-r/CD-rw changer. It doesn't get much better for the money! Similar Products Used: Panasonic 5.1 mini-system |

I was in desperate need of a CD Changer but I didnt want to compromise sound quality so I went for the Marantz. Owning a Marantz PM6010OSE and being a fan of their kit I was hoping the cd unit would be something special. I had to wait for a month to get the player because of supply problems at Marantz Europe. However, when the unit finally arrived I was overjoyed. The sound quality is superb and quite simply rips the Yamaha models to pieces. The build quality is excellent and matches my amplifier perfectly. There is nothing flimsy about this CD changer. The speed of CD Change is phenomenal and ranks amongst the quietest players I have seen and once again surpasses the Yamaha models. With CDR and CDRW playback you cant complain. An excellent unit and it would take a huge insentive to get rid of it. Mightily impressed. Marantz have done it again. |

Strength:
build, coax, fast load, sound, looks
Weakness:
cheesy remote (don''t use it, my Pioneer receiver remote does it all, and even found the standby function) - the annoying blinking disc play light, and the fact that it checks all the discs any time that you load, unload, or open the drawer. - despite these It gets a perfect score from me I''ve Had this player for about 5 months now, and I have very little to complain about. It is very sturdy, looks good with my otherwise pioneer system, and sounds great. I put it to the test the first day out of the box. To make it fair I used the cables (crap) provided, and used similar cables for my older teac player. The difference was noticeable. then I hooked it up through the digital coax with a IOXS silver cable to my Pioneer 608. WOW. that is why I bought this player, and I was not dissapointed. Strength:
Excellent quality, superb highs, mids and lows, incredible value
Weakness:
The remote, but I wont use it The cc3000 supplies a very crisp sound with clean bass, very suprising for a unit that is this affordable. This is one of if not the best multi-disc players that I have purchased, for an incredibly good price. As far as I am concerned Marantz has taken the time and put in the effort to make a quality product, with great performance and they have made it cost effective. I have used only the digital output and fed it into my Marantz SR5200, my previous unit, a Denon has audio outputs only, the definition and clarity of the Marantz unit put my previous, 3 year old Denon to shame.
