problem with some CDR.But this is not important for me

Strength:

quite musical

Weakness:

not good for your rock music as it smooths edges off guitars etc. Not exciting enough for rock then

It does sound nice but I listen to Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins and Pantera so i'm glad I bought the Arcam in the end. I dont think it makes very honest music when it smooth it too much.

Strength:

Highly detailed sound at a all frequencies and very natural too

Weakness:

Can seem to lack drive - still testing though.

A great player in all aspects: sound, features, build and warranty!

The sound is very natural and detailed. The treble can sometimes seem over delicate, though this could be the rest of my system.

However I am still testing/listening so will probably post again.

Strength:

Very nonfatiguing sound for this price point or any, beautiful midrange; fairly grain free; throws a good soundstage for the money; for classical and jazz in this range, it's tops

Weakness:

Rolls off stuff, especially hard rock; finnicky about reading disks; remote is a waste of plastic, as is its infared sensor; sensitive to vibrations

As many people have said, this CD player takes FOREVER to burn in. I think that perhaps it was the player and not the speakers that took insane burn-in times, for I used to believe that it was my B&W's and not the source that were causing so much grain. But, after two months of running it, it opened up immesely. Beautiful, rich midrange and lower treble. Slightly fatiguing on the very top, but only if I'm listening at levels that perhaps I shouldn't. This is a player that I originally bought to replace my Kenwood CD changer, and it also brought me into the world of audio-mania. After taking it home from the store at hooking it up to my system, I was BLOW AWAY by the difference the source could make. I immediately took it to my dad, who unhooked his CD player in his office and he too was flabbergasted (because of this player, he now owns and amazing system of B&W, Plinius, and Creek). But after I started to hear what GOOD really sounds like, I began to dislike the sound of the Marantz. First big jump I made was interconnects. Even my dumbest, most tone-deaf friends can hear the giant difference between interconnects. But this is a CD player review. The best, and most cost-effective tweak was a vibration dampener. I went to Toys'r'Us and bought a 12' innertube for a tricycle, got a sheet of 3/4'' MDF, and made myself a cheap decoupler. Just put the innertube on your shelf (inflated, of course), plop the MDF on top, and top it off with your trusty Marantz. The difference really is huge. You'd be amazed. Those same friends can hear this difference too. Now, I wouldn't even recommend the player without it, really, because it takes away so much of the upper grain that it because much more of a joy to listen to. At first, I didn't hear a difference, but I found I was listening to the Marantz more. Then, after a month, I removed the innertube. I quickly put it back.

Back to the CD player itself. The only serious flaw it has that can't be cured by Hobby Lobby is the imaging and the roll off. Good imaging, but not the sort of detail you'll get at this price point. Sorry, it's a five hundred dollar CD player. But, at the price level, who cares? It's not like you just sunk 350 large on your shiny new Audio Note Gaku-On, now is it? Oh, the roll-off. Yeah, it's there. Guitars are chopped off a little. But, the upside is that it's only noticable in hard rock. But, like I said before, we're not bankrupt.

If you're reading these reviews to buy, go listen to this little baby. You'd be glad you did. And don't let ANYONE EVER tell you that their HK or Kenwood player sounds as good as yours, because it doesn't.

Strength:

Lush midrange, detail, clean, clean, clean, nice bass

Weakness:

None for the $$$

Just replaced my Marantz with the Musical Fidelity X-RAY CD to match my Musical Fidelity X-A2 integrated amp. The main reson for the X-RAY was to match my amp. The X-RAY cost 3 times as much as the Marantz. But, in terms of sound, is every bit as good as the X-RAY. They do sound different from each other, each with different strengths, both being excelent CD players. For the money, The Marantz 6000ose can't be beat. If you own one already, keep it, or be prepaired to spend much more to improve on it. If you are considering it, don't hesitate.

Strength:

Open soundstage, Good detail in Mid to High range

Weakness:

None at this price

I purchased this player to build another system. They are being sold for $200. at Cambride Sound Works. This player is worth the original $500. price. I connected it to my Linn electronics, driving Magnepan 1.6s to see what it sounded like. I am impressed. Although it is different than the Linn or Adcom players in presentation, it lacks nothing in over-all sound quality. I did not expect anything like this due to the cost difference between these players. A/B these players blindly, I would guess that the split between the 3 would be about the same. I'm not going to give-up my Genki but I do think that the 6000 sound is as good. I'll look forward to constructing a budget system around this player.

Strength:

Overall clarity of sound. Considerable detail. Massive value for money.

Weakness:

Poor remote control. Harshness on vocals with inferior recorded discs, compatability with other components in the system.

I borrowed this CD player from a friend who had recently purchased it - he felt it was outstanding and he hoped I'd confirm that feeling. I have a Meridian 200 transport with 203 DAC, coupled to Linn Intek amplifier and Linn Kan (I) speakers. Disconnecting the meridian setup and adding the Marantz CD600 ose produced quite a surprise, the level of detail whilst not in the Meridian class was certainly very good. However, bass was a little dull in my opinion - not punchy enough. The Linn Intek/Kan combination takes no prisoners when it comes to amplifying problems coming from the recording quality of the disc, vocals in particular can sound harsh, I found the vocals on "Jesus to a child" from George Michael's "Older" album to be noticeably harsher than the Meridian derived sound. Classical music was reproduced faithfully but with a lack of real warmth.
I then added the 203 DAC to the digital output on the back of the Marantz. What a transformation! the bass came alive and the harshness on certain treble frequencies whilst not eliminated was markedly reduced, the level of detail from Kylie Minogue's "Fever" was remarkable. Vocals were noticably improved in terms of clarity and definition. "Ellis Island" from the Mary Black "Collection" was breathtaking in terms of vocals and in the sound of guitar in particular. Classical music was also improved in terms of overall sound and stereo image/depth in particular. Vaughan William's "Concerto for Oboe and strings" was particularly haunting with a rich resonating detailed sound from the oboe.
Overall, I have to say that I was mightily impressed with this CD player, in the Linn setup it sounds "average to good" providing decent sound reproduction that is dependant to a large degree on the quality of the CD recording. Clearly, potential exists for this CD player to really get moving by upgrading to a good quality DAC. It comes close to the two box Meridian setup with a price differential of around £650! ($900!). The Marantz CD6000 ose has to be an outstanding buy at this price alone.
