Strength:

Grain free treble, open, airy midrange, clean bass lines

Weakness:

None at this price

This cd player turned out to be a very good match for my Audio Research CA50 and Totem Sttaf speakers. I find that it has excellent soundstage depth and it is very coherent from top to bottom. In my system no one frequency range is highlighted. It has a very musical presentation that invites me to listen for hours.
I am tired of other reviewers stating that this player shows up a bad recording for what it is. You can not polish a turd! The idea behind gear with higher resolution is to bring more of what is on the recording to the listener, good or bad.
I listen primarily to Blues, jazz, and rock, and I find this player suitable for my musical tastes. I have heard better player's, but they are obviously far more expensive. I can reccommend this player wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a smooth, balanced player with no glaring flaws.

Have you guys out there have ever checked out www.trichordresearch.com? This marantz cd 6000 equiped with their CLOCK 2 module makes heaven come alive. Check it out and you will see the differences between upgraded and original one. I upgraded my marantz cd6000 with A CLOCK 2 MODULE and Bi-caping all the system with SRC capacitors and now all I can say is nothing but just listening to the music from heaven.

Strength:

Precise timing, very wholesome and detailed sound

Weakness:

None at this point

I had this player for quite some time. And time and time again, I have told myself, even if I need to upgrade my system, this player will be the last item for me to change. Simply said, this player should cost much more than its current cost. I have auditioned many players, and none is as capable as this baby. Very detailed sound, excellent imaging, great balance and timing.

And I have noticed, this people that gave a bad review for this player is b'cos of its inability to playback CDRs. I really don't know why you guys have that problem as I have tried a few CDR media on this player, no problem at all!!! Maybe you guys should change to a different CDR media to try. And also, even if it can't play CDR does not mean it deserve such low ratings, music reproduction should come first!

Strength:

Great detail & clarity

Weakness:

Break-in period was too long

I was shopping for a cd player that I will not have to upgrade for a long time. I didn't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money, but I wanted the best player I could afford. I am very happy with the 6000OSE. It is uncomparable to my old Sony changer.

Strength:

Highly detailed and smooth

Weakness:

Gradually reducing, although I'm sure other players in this price range are able to provide more drive

I'm still running-in the player and agree with the posting below that after running in, the sound does change to a large extent. Initially when switching back to my older CD Player (Sony CDP-561E - similar to the CDP-XA1ES in other countries), I had a soft spot for the Sony's midrange attack and drive, but now the Marantz' overall sound puts the Sony completely in the shade. Please note that this is a definite improvement and not just a case of getting used to the sound.

On another note, I find it hard to believe that one of the reviewers obtained the player for £150 at RicherSounds. My local Richer Sounds once quoted £240 and another time, the full £299 price. I paid £200 from Super-Fi.

You may be all delighted to know(NOT!) that the Marantz is shortly to be replaced by the CD6000OLE. Yes 'S' in 'Special' becomes a 'L', which most likely stands for 'Limited'

Strength:

pristine sound quality.

Weakness:

hard to read the display from across the room.

the brake in time is an honest 40 to 50 hours. with psb status silver loudspeaker , this cd player has a heart of glass . the sound is smooth and wonderfully detailed. i can honestly listen for hours without ear fatigue.i have listened to these speakers with the rega planet , nice but small and round sounding .yet perfect for the magnapan mmg"s.the rotel lacks low bass .and my least favorate of the bunch.the marantz cd67se was my favorite before the 6000ose . i had worried about not liking the 6000ose as much as the cd67se, and at first i didnt.but after the break in period i could not now go back. the sound is bigger and more detailed than before. so with the right speakers , this is a wonderful cd player . i hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

Ive had the player now for quite a while however have not spent enough time listening to it to give a proper review.
The player itself is very well built and the gutsy informative soundstage ivolves the listener in the music.

Being such a good player, any bad recordings/ mp3 ripps sound awfull on the player since it picks up on even the slight discrepencies within the recording. This however is not a bad thing. It just re-inforces the fact that this player is best suited to the open sounding recordings of classical instrumentals.

I however use the player to listen to indie such as coldplay, travis etc and copes with these well. My Technics however copes better with dance, garage, rock etc, since this player is knowhere near refined as the Marantz.

Bass on the Marantz is highly taught and refined to say the least. Maybee this is down to my very old speakers (Celestion Ditton 44's)

Mid range is amazing with this player.

My system is a Sherwood Pro Logic Amp, Marantz cd6000ose and the Ditton 44. If neone has ne suggestions thatd be appreciated. Interconects are the campridge atlantics (yellow)

Strength:

Sound detailed, Big, big BASS, superb voice, non-fatiguing,Coherence

Weakness:

A lack extreme treble (for my happyness), a little heavy-hand, a long priod to break up.

The new range of Marantz is very beautiful, and highly built (4 HDAM, 2 converters..).Moreover, The sound is fullbodied with more details than before (series 63,67 )and more BASS as it 's really the day and the night.According to me, Marantz has managed to conciliate FINESSE and PRECISION.However, We had to running a long period in order to avoid harshness.Very homogen ,i have a feeling to heard the singer in live and it gives a good airness with acoustic recording (BEN HARPER,J.S BACH, JOHN WILLIAMS).

Try Dance music(Alice Dj)Bass are prominent and dynamic,R&B (Montell Jordan)voice are in front of you, SOUL (SEAL) and here, there a real dimension at this musicians. As for the Best thing, is the soundstage and differents effects stereo .Although with better recording it becoming MAGICAL(corrs, dire straits).

OK! it's not the best players of the earth. I heard the LINN CD7 (12000£ i think)and others KRELL CD250 (2500£).
The first is the most balanced, finesse unbelievable...SO IS THE PRICE.A MUST LISTEN

OK, Im back again. Had a chance to directly compare this with a cd63MkII Signature in my own system. The cd 6000 has a deeper soundstage, the sound more from the soundstage than just the speakers and individual voices and instruments are more realistic. At the same time, I noticed a "darkness" in the treble of the cd6000 and somehow the sound impressed me as mechanical and digital. At the end of it all, I wound up not really liking either player very much and am really considering getting my records out of storage and spending any further hifi money on a decent turntable. (although this would involve somehow getting the records across the Atlantic Ocean) But for a cd player, pretty good.

Strength:

nicely built, top end clarity

Weakness:

midrange down.

i notice a lot of the good reviews are from classical music buffs, and i can see why, brilliant top end detail. but if you like rock, pop or dance, LEAVE IT ON THE SHELF. I found the midrange muddy, and the bass sadly non existant. It is very hard to rectify this with cabling. The arcam 7se i finally settled on, gives a much fuller richer sound out the box and addition of a silver interconnect squeezed out enough top end to easily match what the 6000ose gave me.
