Strength:

Clarity, depth, and overall solid build.

Weakness:

Like everyone else I agree there is a long burn period.

I use this player with psb stratus bronzes, and it brings out depth and detail in music that is simply amazing. The player is priced at common mans budget, but will satisfiy an audiophile. I have had no problems with this unit, and I have owned it over a year.

Strength:

Good open sound, Plenty of punch and grip, Dynamics abilities, sweet, details and clarity, authority.

Weakness:

Nothing for a below $500 player.

When coming to CD Player I am always a fan of Ken Ishiwata's - Marantz. This I think owned very much to my childhood days, during those days, our neighbour always invited us to his house and he always entertained us with his " Marantz tubes amplifier. " The second reason is my experieced in the CD46 players, despite its low price, it was an amazing stuff to my ear. The 6000 OSE is even better and superior than the CD46. It sounds with full authority, treble is clear and sweet, instruments come alive with great details, bass response is well controlled and dynamics is good. When it is new its sounds quite harsh and the treble was overly bright but now it is totally alright. My partnering equipment are as follows: Infinity Reference 60 floorstanding speakers, Musical Fidelity X-Pre/X-PSU, Nad 216THX power Amplifier, Marantz 6000 OSE and PSB Alpha Subsonic 5 Subwoofer. Very satisfying, at least to my own ears. Bye.

Strength:

VERY neat machine that looks good and sounds compact on a budget

Weakness:

A little thin on some rock tracks

Having grown up with a hifi enthusiast for a father I was surprised to find a cd player of this quality for this amount of money.
I am using and audiolab 800 amplifier with KEF Q35 speakers which I bought a few months ago. I was in awe when I first got he machine home at it's ability to handle the range of frequencies it handled with finess and ease. My one criticism would be that tracks like 'scar tissue' by the red hot chilli peppers sound a little thin. This is balanced by the extra dimension added to miles away by gomez.
I would reccomend this as a purchse for anyone who loves to listen. Just can't wait till mine's broken in

Strength:

timbe, detail, laid back

Weakness:

cdr error

First, I would like to preface this with my system:
cyrus 2 and psx
linn keleidh speakers
audioquest type 4plus cables
My other components create a very deep soundstage already, and this was emphasized even more by the cd6000OSE. Although there is a lot of fine detail with the cd6000OSE,it doesn't fly out at you, but exists at various depths in the soundstage.
There is a good spread to the soundstage which also goes higher than some other players.
Since the rest of my system is fairly laid back, I could use perhaps a little more forward sound from a player, but I can't think of another one in this price range which would give me the "hifi" qualities I get from the cd6000OSE.
The build quality is really excellent, but I've never had such problems with cdr rejection as with this player(including the cd4000 which I demoed at home) About one in every 3 times, I get "Error" and the player locks up while I'm flipping between tracks. When I open and shut the drawer, it works ok again. Frankly, I was surprised at how stodgy this player works compared with the cd4000, considering that it costs 3 times more and has the same transport. I'd like to add, however, that I have yet to hear a cd copy that matches an original sound-wise. If you don't know this already, you should look at your rig.
All in all, I've decided to keep the cd6000OSE based on the sound quality, and if they come out with a solution for the cdr problem, I'm going to try to make Marantz fix it for me.
With the cdr problem 3 1/2 stars. Without it, 5 stars.

Strength:

Sounds good. Nice bass and trebles.

Weakness:

Display: cannot be dimmed.

6000 OSE is part of my first system. I paired it with Musical Fidelity xa2 amp + BW 601 and it sounds excellent. I have listened to many things before breaking the budget but Marantz seemed to match what I needed. I have also looked at Sony (the UK specd XB930) which was ok but not so good as the Marantz.

I like: remote volume, headphone out.
I don't like: no dimming for display.

I would buy it again.

When I heard this player for the first time, I was disappointed, it sounded not better than my sony cd-player.
But after a few hours of listening (about 20 hrs), woow what a difference !
Bass are very, very clear, middle sound great like treble.

Don't judge this player at the first listening.
I have no problem with cd-r but I haven't tried cd-rw.

Strength:

Excellent definition and clarity. Good looks.

Weakness:

Remote could be better.

Having been bored with my audio system, I purchased a pair of Ascend CBM-170 bookshelf monitors upon a friend's recommendation. These great little speakers breathed new life into my audio system. Now that I was back into listening to music again, I figured my 6 year old Pioneer cd player was due for replacement...

I bought the Marantz online and saved $150! I must admit, that my first impression was not good. My discs sounded thin and overly bright, almost tinny. Well, I am not one to immediately draw conclusions so I gave it some more demo time and ran it through its paces.

Within one week my opinion completely changed. What I originally attributed to brightness was actually definition and clarity. I am amazed at the amount of detail I can now easily make out during a listening session. This is a GREAT cd player. The combination of the Ascend(www.ascendacoustics.com) speakers and the Marantz is fantastic. I find myself listening to music for several hours a day... goodbye sitcoms! Bass is tight and lean with no overhang. Vocals are breathtakingly realistic and focussed dead center with true depth and the highs are crisp but not over emphasized.

A great CD player, by far the best in its class. I highly recommend it!

Strength:

Very Musical. Safe bet to match most systems.

Weakness:

Bass Extension and "clean" sound quality.

Dont' get me wrong, this is a nice CD player, definitely a cut above entry level. However, the majority of what you are paying for are features. This unit is loaded with bells and whistles like volume control on the remote, a headphone jack on the unit, a fancy display with CD-text, etc. My only criteria is the sound.

This CD player is typical Marantz, and that's not a bad thing. It is musical, warm, and safe for most systems. Clarity and bass extension are sacrificed, but not to the extent of it's predecessor the 67SE. If you audition with headphones, the aforementioned strengths and criticisms are easier to discern.

The reason why this player only deserves 3 stars is because at the $500 price point, there are other players that outperform it. I have a Sony DVD player S300 which is a dual discrete player that is much better sounding. The clarity and dynamic range is better. Unfortunately, Sony got cheap with the S330 which does not have dual discrete optical pick-ups and has a bad lip sync problem on DVD's. Since I was in the market for a second player, I chose the Rotel 951 over the Marantz.

The Marantz CD6000 OSE is obviously geared toward attracting entry level consumers to a higher end market. Features and ease of integration with other Marantz components make this a winner for casual listeners. I just think that the retail price is about $100 too much. Before purchasing, I would strongly encourage you to audition the Rotel 951, with and without headphones.

Strength:

Smooth, detailed, non-fatiguing

Weakness:

None

A great all around player and a bargain at the price, especially considering the excellent built and well-design ergonomics, not to mention its sexy looks - a big improve over the CD67SE and on a par, I believe, with the more expensive CD17mkII. I also listened to a Rotel 971 which is also very good but has a brighter sound. Lots of nuance on all kinds of music, even Led Zeppelin.
