Strength:

bass overall sound quality

Weakness:

CDr and some original disc track access

Buy this player with caution as it has trouble plying some Cdr. discs and even some originals,
It gives an error message and the unit locks up.
If marantz can sort out these teething problems it would be a good player for the money.
Had one my self had to take it back though due to the problems I was having. Can’t fault the sound
But because it is unreliable then can only give it one star sorry marantz but it caused me great inconvenience.

Weakness:

the marantz dealer (MARVIN ELECTRONICS) who insulted my intelligence

Ok
I went into my local hifi shop looking for an upgrade to my older CDP. I was mearly looking around at their marantz 6000 & rotel pre-amp set up they had when I noticed that the CDP & amp(Mcintosh) were unplugged. My attention then focused on the Rotel pre-amp (can't remember model). I noticed that the tone defeat knob was a turn selector type instead of the usual push button type.
The dealer, who had already asked me if I needed any help (I said, politely, "no") said, quite authoritative & with a hint of sarcasm, "that unit's not plugged in, so YOU DON'T NEED TO PLAY WITH THE KNOBS!!!." I said that I knew that it wasn't plugged in & that I knew what I was doing.
He went away momentarily. I then leaned behind the Rotel to ckeck out the ins & outs. I wasn't leaning on the wall or even touching anything, simply leaning forward. The smart as then came behind me & barked "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!??" I said I was ckecking out the the # of outputs & asked "Is that OK WITH YOU??" He said, "Well, if you had asked my I would have told you." I said "I like to be left alone when I shop & If i need help I would solicite it".

I could not believe this SOB. I guess I should have expected it though, because me & several of my friends have never been treated with any respect in that place. I guess it's my casual attire, I don't know. I think they are used to the BIG MONEY socialites believing every word that comes out of their lying used car salesmen's mentality mouths.
Anyway, I ordered a AH Tjoeb with the 7-day warranty & the GOOD SERVICE that came with it. I also know there is a Marantz dealer in Dallas that knows how to treat customers, if I ever need anything.

If anyone in D/FW area ever needs hifi, look in the Dallas yellow pages. MARVIN's is the only HIFI dealer in Fort Worth, so I guess they think they can behave any way that suits them.

Four stars for the possibility, -2 for their jack-ass dealer.

Strength:

Detail, Neutrality, "Open" treble, pace.

Weakness:

Explicit, Unforgiving.

Marantz has recently been re-launched in this country at prices not much more than U.S or U.K list --- in itself a far cry from the exorbitant tags found here on most imported hi-fi.
The 6000 OSE was purchased as a replacement to a CD-63 KI whose laser had seen better days. And the difference was night and day.
Straight out of the box, I noticed the MUCH better build quality, the saner ergonomics; but missed direct track-selection from the unit's front panel. I also discovered that it sounded AWFUL. 100 hrs later (and one could hear it gradually improving during the burn-in!) it was born again.
The 63-KI had had a warmer, more forward sound, rich and solid --- and I missed that. But was forced to ask myself, WHICH is the more accurate....and thats what hi-fi is all about isnt it, "fi" as in fidelity? I found myself admitting that the refulgence of the KI was perhaps overblown, its seducing-act a little obvious in comparison, though extremely hard to resist! And this same voluptuousness worked against it --- in terms of a somewhat stodgy, ill-defined bass, compared to the more precise, tuneful and fleet-of-foot lower register of the OSE.
This coupled to a midrange that is flat as a ruler; and a treble thats open enough to allow a glimpse of detail one didnt know existed. And here lies the rub: a treble that almost redefines the term "ruthlessly revealing". It is NOT kind to bad recordings, harsh-sounding amplifiers, tinny tweeters and such. In fact, it has focussed an unflattering searchlight on my NAD 1000S-216THX pre-power amp combo. Would I have rather foregone the openness and added detail for a somewhat more forgiving character? Perhaps.
So here's a cd-player not for those addicted to rose-tinted eye-glasses; though it remains a beautifully-crafted, reasonably-priced way to enter the realm of high-fidelity.

Strength:

Versitle, exciting, well built, many features.

Weakness:

I haven't found any yet.

I held back a long time before making the plunge for my CD player. I was interested in both the NAD C540 and the Arcam 7SE, but one was too bright, the other too warm (respectively) for my tastes especially when played through their same brand amps. Mixing amps and cd players (armcam amp, NAD Cd player or vice-versa) seemed like a decent way to find that well balanced sound that would be useful for my eclectic taste in music. However it always felt like a compromise.

Then I tried the Marrantz CD player with the Arcam Alpha 7R amp and it hit the spot perfectly. It is, in my opinion, a superior CD player to the NAD - it has balance without scrificing dynamics, it can excite, it doesn't sound harsh, it lets the music breathe, gives it a feeling of space and depth. The Arcam amp gives a little warmth to complement the overall presentation and I am very happy with the expansive versatility of the combination.

The Marrantz also looks good, which may appeal to some and is always a bonus anyway.

Some have run this CD player down for the wrong reasons - it doesn't sound like a £1000 CD player (well doh!) or the dealer is a pain in the arse (you don't take the dealer home with you). As a CD player at this price point it is locked in a struggle with the Arcam Alpha 7SE, but puts NAD out into the cold.

I used mine with an Arcam Aplha 7R and a pair of B&W 601 S2s and it is a thrilling combination with a multitude of music - the total setup cost me approxamately £750 sterling. :)

Strength:

Musical, Pas d'agressivité (non-fatiguing), Basses profondes, respect des timbres.

Weakness:

Strength:

NATURAL SOUNDING, SWEET TREBLE. FUSSY WITH EQUIPMENT, WRONG MATCHING MEANS HIGHS THAT PUNCTURES YOUR DRUMS. SOUNDS GREAT WITH DANCE TRACKS EG ATB, DARIO-G ETC. VOCAL PIECES ARE EXCELLENT AS WELL EG TRACY CHAPMAN ETC. SIMPLE ACOUSTICS TRACKS ARE JUST BEAUTIFUL..SIMPLY UNBELIEVABLE FOR A PLAYER AT THIS PRICE.

Weakness:

BASS TOO LEAN WHEN PLAYING R AND Bs. TONI BRAXTON SOUNDED JUST WEIRD, THE BASS IN HER TRACKS ALL SOUNDED DRY AND WAY TOO LEAN FOR ANY R AND B LOVER LIKE MYSELF.

MY CURRENT SYSTEM:

CD6000OSE CD PLAYER
PM6010OSE INT. AMP.
B&W DM601 S1 LOUDSPEAKERS
STRAIGHTWIRE CHORUS INTERCONNECT
STRAIGHTWIRE QUARTET BIWIRE CABLES

OVERALL I THINK THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST COMBINATION AT THE PRICE RANGE. THE COMBINATION OF THE CDP AND AMP IS NOT OPTIMAL AS BOTH OF THEM ARE TOO BRIGHT SOUNDING. THANKS TO THE STRAIGHTWIRES THAT HELPED BRING BACK THE WARMTH TO THE MUSIC. PARTNER WITH CARE.

Strength:

Pure natural sound, involving soundscape, renews CD collection

Weakness:

Cant only program tracks from the remote

My Technics CD Player died so I decided to stretch my budget to the middle of the market. Decided to try the 6000ose after reading reviews here and do not regret it for a moment.

Since buying the 6000ose I'm rediscovering my whole CD collection. Every one is a joy to listen to, there are parts I've never heard and the clarity is incredible. Vocals and other acoustic instruments are warm and involving, whilst electronically generated sounds are crisp and sharp. The bass from my Dance collection of Underworld and Orbital and the Prodigy is superb. And as for Massive Attack...... This CD player was made for Massive Attack!

Having read the reviews here, I've tried all my CDR compilations on a variety of manufacturer's media and I haven't had a single problem. Maybe I'm lucky, or maybe my discs are cleaner - who knows? Either way I'm very pleased.

An absolute stunner. If you're after a CD player in this price range then buy this one! If your budget's a little less then try and stretch to this one - you won't regret it!

Strength:

Powerful, tight bass - thanks to the HDAM's. Amazing clarity, purely for the audiophile. No gimmicks

Weakness:

None

The Marantz is a fabulous piece of kit, I don't know how some of the other reviewers can think oterwise. They clearly know nothing on Hi-Fi!. The 6000OSE is well built and classy looking. It offers CD-TEXT, and various other niceties. The Dynamics of this Machine are stonking in comparison with other rivals. Should be used with a Marantz Amp for best results. Perhaps some Tannoy R2's to bring out the best in the CD-Player.

Used in conjunction with:

Marantz PM-6010OSE
Mordaunt short MS25I Pearls
QED Qunex Silver Spiral interconnects
QED Silver Anniversary Speaker cable.
