I purchased the Marantz 67SE for $329! It was a demo unit, so it was already burned in. Excellent CD player. It's a bit picky on interconnects so use interconnects that have good bass extensions. With the money that I save, I can get an external DAC in the near future, but for now I'm very happy with the unit. Geez, even for list price the Marantz is an excellent deal. I'm not sure why some people are quibbling so much. If you want a better player, go ahead and get a Rega Planet - for $200 more or an Arcam Alpha 8. My power amps are Musical Fidelity X-A50s, Hafler Iris Preamp, Sound Dynamics R-616 loudspeaker, speaker cables are Kimber TC4s, Interconnects Audioquest.

For the price, this CD player is ok. You do better to spend $200. more and get a Rotel RCD-975 or Rega Planet though.
The Marantz is not as pleasant to listen to. Even after broken in, it seems to lack bass. I listen to alot of alternative and rock music, and was left empty listening to the Marantz.

First, I had a regular 67, and was not satisfied, so I returned to the store and switched to a 67se. It was a little better and not quite as harsh in the highs, but it still seemed to be lacking bass. I returned once again to the store and took home a Rotel RCD-975 instead. Wow! I definately noticed a difference! Of course, so did my pocketbook (the Rotel unit is $200. more).

If I had $500. to spend on a cd player, knowing what I know now, I would try to find a used Rotel, avoiding the Marantz.

It's not that the Marantz unit is not good (it is after all, quite clear and present in the highs), it's just that I like more bass than it had.

I like the ergonomics/features of the Marantz unit a lot.

The cd67se has been the subject of my search for a replacement for my old conked-out yamaha cd player. I had compared it to Rega Planet and Yamaha CD565 and found it to provide quite a lot of detail and accuracy for the amount that it costs.
However, to my surprise, when I looked at the country of origin, I found that it was made in Indonesia. I was wondering if all cd67se's are made there, or if that is just one of the many factories worldwide (eg. Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan) from which Marantz/Philips source their components. If so, I was also wondering whether the cd67se's from these different factories would have the same build quality or sonic character.

Can someone help out?

I purchased the 67se a few months ago. It sounded terrible right out of the box. It was harsh in the highs and muddy in the bass. After over 100 hrs of play, the sound quality has improved greatly. I am not convinced that the 67se is "more musical than players twice it's price" or such other comments and reviews I have heard. I have had no mechanical problems with the player. Replaced NAD player with the Marantz. It is much better mechanically than the former. I have one major gripe with the player. It only has a variable out for rca connections. I guess this is not that big a deal, but if the player is turned off it automatically resets the volume to it's highest setting. Pretty stupid Marantz on that one. I also find that am able to get warmer sound by setting player at mid volume level and using the pre amp to adjust volume. Wish it had fixed out. Overall fairly satisfied with the 67se. I compared it with the new NAD players and the Marantz sounded much more open. May be less tight in the bass than the NAD players though.

The Marantz CD67SE cd player is just cool in appearance and performance.Let the cd player on all the time (as long as you use it), the best you will definitely get; clear, clean, deep bass, accurate, and "happy-ending" never skip songs you get.

Just bought cd67se (as part of marrantz pm66se - tannoy m3 package £575 from Super-Fi) sound awsome at volume. However, there is a transformer 'hum' comming from the machine. I took back the original, and it was 'no quibble' replaced. The replacement had the same 'hum'.
Anyone else got this 'feature' ?

I'm using this player with an adcom gtp450 preamp, four marantz ma500 amps in a bi-amp configuration driving paradigm studio 60 's connected with Monster cable interconnects and speaker wire. Three dimensional, well defined sweet heaven. Some tweaks I found to really make the 67se shine: The musical fidelity x10d ($160.) B stock..this did wonders for both the soundstage and sweetening the 'harshness' others have noted here. Audioprism cd blacklight $60. Also squashes down the harsh element and adds some air. Sorbothene feet (4) under the player available from Edmund Scientific, $15. for a set of 4 to further de-jitterize things. You'll also need another interconnect for the x10d. Total cost = $285. well spent bang-for-buck refinements. This is my first go at and audiophile grade sound but I'm astounded by how good this humble 'budget' setup sounds. Anybody with a similar sort of setup recomend other gizmos? I'm considering a power conditioner, new speaker cables and/or shakti stones.

As previews reviews of this prodiuct stated, the 67SE sounds downright disappointing right out of the box. It was unbelievably harsh and bright, with hardly any depth. I was so disheartened, that I was tempted to return it the same day. However, after reading and hearing about extended burn-in time, I figured that the best thing to do is to wait...
Now, more than a week past, I am very satisfied with my purchase. I couldn't believe what a difference the burn-in period made (about 40-50 hours). The player is very detailed, although some higher mids tend to sound harsh or edgy at times. But on my budget, this was the trade-off: super warm (Jolida tube 601a)but also slightly muddy; or detailed with less roundess. The 67se provided enough warmth for me to be happy along with crisp highs and over-all exellent detail. Looks pretty nice, too.

I'll give it four stars.

I have had Marantz CD-67 SE for the last 5 months and have really fallen in love with this smooth CD player. Thanks to Marantz local dealer (who I happen to know very well since all my equipment is Marantz) I got myself an upgrade to Mark II version of this player. I should be getting the Mark II version today as a replacement for my earlier model. This is also a SE, i.e. Special Edition and is only better than the original 67 SE. I was told that it is price at GBP 500 ($800). It sounds like it at the demo room.Really fabulous.
My other equipment includes:-
Marantz SR-870 AV receiver
Marantz SD-555 Tape Deck
Marantz EQ-515 Equalizer
Marantz RC 2000 remote
Panasonic A 300 EN DVD player
Polk Audio RT-16 speaker
CS-250 centre - Polk
PSW 150 subwoofer - Polk
Polk Audio M5 all weather satellite speakers for surround
Marantz PM-65 amplifier for the multi-room
Mordaunt Short MS30i speaker for multi-room

Marantz really means hi fidelity true sound
