Strength:

SOUND,Eaze of access to music, labeling of CDs

Weakness:

size, maximum length of titles you can program in,plastic door

I bought this jukebox after reading the reviews here. I'm here to say they were right on.
Forget the aluminum face plate (though it's nice), forget the TV on-screen programming (though it's unbelievably convenient and intuative)- it's all about the SOUND stupid!!
This jukebox has revitalized my CD collection. I'm hearing things in virtually every Disc I never heard before.
There is a fideltiy and resolution to the music that I never heard in my 10 year old Denon (NO KIDDING).
It's A clean and "open" in sound.
I have a STRDB-840 (with Polk speakers)and only listen in "analog by-pass" mode, for the cleanest, purest sound.
This unit gets a lot of hype every time it comes up on e-Bay, many say it's the only jukebox worth considering if you are an "audiophile".
I'm no expert, but this thing sounds AMAZING!

I love this piece. I've just ordered the 70ES model to work as a "slave" to the 90ES, and it will allow me to enter 400 compact discs, and to have an easy-to-use on screen display that will permit me not only to choose discs from my remote, but the tracks as well (you do have to take the time to enter this information via your computer keyboard).
I did a limited test. Through an accident, I acquired two Stevie Ray Vaughan gold discs. I put one in my Sony XA7ES (reference single disc player) and the other in the 90ES. Played them both at the same time, switching back and forth from the preamp/processor inputs, via the remote. Very little difference, if a difference could be discerned.

How could this be? Well, that points to another attribute in the 90ES, i.e., its digital output. While it's a toslink digital out, it allows you to hook up, as I have, to a superior outboard dac. In my case, using the Proceed PDSD, I have both the XA7ES and the 90ES hooked up to it. I've also "cheated" a little by using a Theta TLC, a reclocking device that allows me to "upgrade" the digital out of the 90ES from toslink to coax (a difference I'm not sure matters).

Be very clear: the attribute to the player is not merely its convenience. This delivers very comparable sound, if not identical, as the XA7ES. While, in the long haul, the XA7ES would produce the "better" sound, you'd be hard pressed to say when, particularly if you're using the same dac for each. This is just a dream piece, where convenience and performance make a solid merger.

I purchased this unit for storing all of my loose, junky, and unwanted CD's around my house. This unit is not only good for storage, but for playing your favorite music CD's. This unit sounds just as good as the DVP S7000 unit I swear to you. I purchase a fiber optic cable for my digital out and I could not tell the difference with my DVD player VS the 200 disk changer. I've been buying tons of new CD's to store into my unit because I was not aware of how good this unit sounds. I was told by a friend that CD changers that holds more than 5 disk are cheap and poor for music. Boy was he wrong. Give this unit a try and you will see for yourself that this unit sounds as good as any state of the art DVD player.

Ok, blah, blah, blah. We all already know how amazing the the CX90ES sounds. We all know how wonderful it is to be able to type in the titles and track names of all your songs, organize them in various hit lists and cross-fade with whatever other sony disc changer you have. But here's the real scoop. Here's what even Sony won't tell you:This player can read your mind. Don't ask me how it works, I just know it has an uncanny ability to sense your mood and desire and play the song you need. I've got 200 discs programmed in my player, and when I put it on random, there's about 3000 possible songs that could be played. And you know what? It almost always picks the best song for the occasion. Right after I got a $800 check from a friend who owed me money, it played "Money" by Pink Floyd. Just when I was getting ready for bed and wanted to some nice music, it played some Enya, and on, and on...
Seriously though, this thing is great, I've got it hooked up to my DA-50es and I couldn't be happier. The new 300 disc changers from Sony are out now, however, and they seem to be quite a bit cheaper, but I'm holding onto my 90es like the holy grail.

I know this is kind of tacky, but I work at an electronics store. Anyway I've got a Sony CDPCX88ES for sale. Ive got it brand new and untouched and sealed in the box. I also happen to have the store warrany on the unit and it is covered for 6 years so you don't have to worry about any warranty or lack thereof from the "GRAY MARKET" internet dealers or Sony. Instead it's covered through a large west coast chain super store.

Its a great unit but I've now decided to build a Denon system instead of Sony. I'm asking $500 for this BRAND NEW PLAYER, but I might be interested in "wheeling and dealing".

Its a 200 disk ES changer, with Sony's patented "current pulse D/A converter". It also has a 2 way remote with led screen, and has an optical output.

Strength:

Excellent sound, 200 disc capacity, can enter CD name, artist and track names and sort via same except tracks.
Easy to use for the non-tecnical minded.
keyboard entry

Weakness:

Haven't found any so far.

I compared this player to the above listed players. Although I could not discern any real distinction between the CX 88ES and this unit, the CX 90 ES had better features that are now standard with the newer megachangers: Keyboard entry, hit list, track entry, etc.
The most important feature is the SOUND!!! It is truly awesome and leaves other megachangers behind. I am able to hear the definition of instruments much clearer. Jazz with horns is especially impressive with a real life quality to the sound. Acoustic guitar also stands out.
Now that this player is slightly older I bet you could find it for a great price.
i liked the Yamaha but the features and sound were better with this player. Of course the price was higher. If you have a tighter budget you may want to consider the Yamaha. The sound was very good for a player in that price range.

Strength:

Sound. Storage. Read on.

Weakness:

Slight ergonomic difficulty in using its digital output with a slave unit. Hopefully, explanation is included (If I can copy my e-mail to Joe, someone who asked a question), and in which I provided what I consider to be valuable information about using a slave unit and an external d/a converter.

In response to the question of whether the 70ES could be used as a slave, I remembered the problem I had in using the digital output when the "slave was connected". My response:

[well, the copy and paste didn't work. If anyone wants to know how to use both, with one as a slave, and also use the digital output for both, e-mail me and I'll send you a copy of what I told the person who sought my advice]. I'll also try posting it in techtalk.

No similar megachangers. Comparison with XA7ES--see my 1998 review--caused me to get rid of the XA7ES.
