This is an update on my previous review. I just got the Yamaha fixed for 20 bucks and it works perfectly. So, ignore the negatives in my previous post. |

Strength:
Sound quality, ergonomics.
Weakness:
Reliability, not quite four years on this unit which has not been overused and has been well maintained. I have had great pleasure listening to this product. It has brought new life to my old discs. I remember when I first plugged it in and went through all my cds as if I was hearing them for the first time. Now the bad new, the unit it fried. It will not play without making a horrible noise and skipping around. I am not pleased overall due to this problem. Similar Products Used: Sony cdc early model, 1992 or so, got seven years out of that one. Sony dvd dvp-s530d. Yamaha definitly beats sound quality specifically in the highs. |

Strength:
great sound, great price
Weakness:
getting harder to find Purchased after reading reviews on this site. Cant go wrong when 17 people say its an awesome player. Very lovely player. I upgraded from a NAD 522 "budget audiophile" cd player. The Yamaha is 2 or 3 notches above the NAD on a scale of 1-10. BUY IT NOW OR DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Strength:
Solid bass (much better than the sony I had before), Excellent transport mechanism, Digital output, Disc Naming
Weakness:
None- This is a great player, so don't hesitate to buy. I got an open box buy for $199, but for this changer, anything under $300 isn't unreasonable. Happy Listening! Similar Products Used: This player crushed my old Sony Changer (CDPE315?)as well as a brand new Denon DCM270. |

Remote, no power button This is one heck of a unit. I've been using this CD player for over 1 year and it is still going strong! I've heard other players (sorry, I don't have particular models or brands in mind at this moment) and this player still sounds better than others for the price. I've had friends tell me that it sounded great (not good) and they wanted to buy it off of me! Well, I may sell but for now, I'm satisfied. This one is in my room while the newer 775 is in my living room. Both sound great, but the 775 have CD text capability, better readout (dot matrix), and flatter buttons. I really can't say which one sounds better since the 775 is hooked up to a Yamaha DSP-A3090 (the 765 is hooked up to the RXV-995) so it might be an unfair comparison. But so for, they both sound great for the price. One thing though, the 765 will skip on slightly scratched discs while the 775 will play through with some "clicking" noise from the scrathes. Overall, buy either one if you have the time and money to give them a listen to. Happy listening! Similar Products Used: Yamaha 775 |

Strength:
Warm sound
Weakness:
Memory limited to 100 cd's This player works and sounds great on commercial cd's. However, I find it has problems playing back some kinds of cd-r's... specifically those burned on a Yamaha CD-RW drive! Ironic that Yamaha did not coordinate the tolerances of their cd-players against the recording specs of their burners, maybe the computer division does not talk to the home audio division. Strength:
Pro-bit processor *really* works, the music on standard CDs sounds fuller and more dymnamic.
Weakness:
No HDCD, door is not as quiet as some players, but it's not really a problem I've bought this CD-player at a clearance price (it has been replaced by the Yamaha CDC-775), and it was WELL worth it!! I find this player sounds a lot better than the comparable Denon I listened too - which was somewhat murky. The more expensive HK 8500 sounded better with HDCD discs and almost as good on normal CDs, but it was more expensive and didn't offer the features or reliability that the Yamaha does. I just purchased the Yamaha cdc-765, and I'm very happy with it. I listened to it in the store (duplicate CDs playing simultaneously, switching the amp input), up against the denon 460. Although the denon was audibly better than the yamaha 665, up against the 765 I could only hear very minor differences (denon sounded slightly fuller in the mid-ranges). But the Yamaha has better features (continuous play for single or multi; random play for single or multi and repeat play for a single disc or a single _track_!!), and the tray allows you access to all 5 discs at once. The Yamaha can even store track programs for 100 discs! |
