I have my Aiwa HP-X223 for more the 7 years and by far the best buy for the money. These headphones give my high end headphones a run for the money and then some.... I have bet the crap out of these headphones. By that I mean, I have thrown these headphone on the table thousand of time and ran over the cord with my chair thousand of time and they always work...

Strength:

The frequence response for the retail price still remains unmatched after being discontinued over a few years now. Strong and sturdy, none of my headphones feel apart, worn out, or went out.

Weakness:

The cord is too damn long. I've easily went through a dozen sets due to the cord getting caught on something pulling the cord out thus causing the sound to go out. No matter, at $30 bucks a pop, the price was right and a better return in sound performance quality.

I discovered these headphones way back around 1999 and have refused to purchase and use any other headphones, PERIOD!! I have gone through countless sets of these headphones, (cords too long & would get caught & snagged causing sound to go out) panicked everytime and immediately went out and bought any set on the DOUBLE! For the price, there is no greater headphones (lucked up in 2001 when out in Fremont, CA & came across only one set better and haven't seen same headphones anywhere else since) and ooh how my heart sanked when I discovered that they no longer make em. WTF!!!!!

You'll be very hard pressed to find another set of headphones better at the same price, NEVER!!!

Strength:

great sound
durable
little or no sound leaks

Weakness:

internal problems may occur

I've had these for roughly a year and from what I've experienced, they sounds great. the bass and tremble tunes are clear in my opinion and i play them at high db. sometimes up to 50 at some points. although i have to say after 5 months the right ear went out and no longer played. i've tried fixing and found that the problem was a stripped wire showed and i figured it must have been dealing with some constant rubbing and pulling.

overall the sound is great deals great wear and tear, deals with high input. you really don't even need much input to make these babies sing.

Strength:

Sounds good, when the prongs are finally working well enough to get the speakers close to your ears

I was gonna get on here and rant about how these things are terrible but truely they do sound good. I also didnt take car of them, but other thatn the great sound.. here are the problems i find... very awkwardly assembled. band accross the top is made for comfort, but not practially. its huge ! also, the two metal prong things that hold it against your ears suck. once one comes out good luck getting it back in, not to mention all it is is a little fish hook type thing that you have to jam in a hole the size of a pinhead. And, why couldnt they bridge the audio from ear to ear in the band ? nooooo they had to run it through the insulation of the wire that joins the ear together. yeah that makes it real easy to put back together when the 12 cent metal prong breaks. I advise buying something better assembled, what was i thinking... paying only 40 bucks, argggggggggggggg.

Thumbs Down !

Customer Service

There's customer service ? what would i even ask ? I want to Talk to the R&D team on this one.

Strength:

- Very comfortable.
- Sound is good for anyone but maybe crazy audiophiles. Electronic music sounds great.
- Solidly built. These things feel solid, not creaky cheap plastic. They will not break on you.
- Long cord is great.
- Lightweight! Makes a huge difference.
- Mute button if you ever use it.. I do when my girlfriend is trying to talk to me sometimes.
- Single sided cord big plus.

Weakness:

- They dont make them anymore!!! nooooooooooooo!!

I have gone through a few pairs of these headphones, and regret not taking better care of them because they dont make them anymore! These were the best headphones I have ever owned. I use them for DJng so the enhanced bass on them really helps out in the club. They are REALLY comfortable and sound pretty good. If you find a pair of these heaphones anywhere I would DEFINITELY recommend buying them immediately.

Strength:

Comfortable, cheap, strong bass.

Weakness:

Inaccurate, muffled midtones, static.

These are mediocre at best. I bought them because the frequency was impressive for such cheap headphones, but they really lack in clarity and the midtones are muffled. If you're listening to an older recording or to mp3's, there's static at even low volumes. The bass is impressive though, and so is the comfort.

Strength:

Strong bass, wide frequency response (5-25k Hz), shape of earphone blocks out sound pretty well, long chord, comfortable listening for long time

Weakness:

Sound is not clear at any frequency, and in fact sounds sloppy or blurred with classical music where single pitches are important. Music frequently sounds like it has been digitally compressed into mp3 or wma format even when it is actually very hi fidelity. Performance is inconsistant/undependable across generes. Sometimes crackles when not very loud at all - but only when playing accoustic instrumental music.

These earphones noticably alter the sound. They magnify the bass and the high treble, while cutting out lower midtones and the mid treble. When listening to bass heavy music, especially music with electronically generated sounds [like hip hop, RnB, or rpm] it sounds fine. But when playing classical music [e.g. an orchestra, chamber quartet, or solo piano], these earphones sound really bad. In piano recordings I've long revered for their clarity and variety of dynamic palate, the sound is now flat and fuzzy, as if the piano was inside a giant wet sock when it was recorded. The clarity is especially comprimised when the music is soft. It is uncanny how with certain types of music (for example, big band music) these earphones sound almost clear, but with others types it doesn't have the sound quality of earphones half the price. My $17 Koss earplug earbuds delivered much more consistant performance than these. I will be replacing them soon because I cannot listen to classical music on them.

Strength:

Cord comes out of only 1 side, LONG cord, sound quality, mute button, price, driver size.

Weakness:

NONE!!!

These sound better than the Sony headphones I paid $50 for! These came in a liquadation lot that I paid about $30 for, so I got a great price on these to! The sound quality is simply awesome, I listen to music all the time (at least 5 hours a day), I've gone through 5 pairs of headphones in about a year. If that doesn't tell you how much I listen to music, nothing will! These are the best head phones I've had in a LONG time! The Sony pair I had before is almost as good as these, but they needed bigger drivers, then they would be the same as these Aiwa's. Of course I've NEVER had problems with anything from Aiwa. I would have gotten a Aiwa home theater system, but couldn't find one :-(. I had 2 Aiwa bookshelf system, the first one I used so much it killed it, and the second still worked, but I had a one room house fire, and of course that was the room with the system in it. I would recommend these headphones to ANYONE! Well, what are you waiting for, GO GET A PAIR!
