Strength:
everything
Weakness:
none - need sometime to drive them well- still doing some research in the department - Great Set of Headphones --- a lot of my Mp3s sound like crap -- classical music sounds great -- Mozart - Requiem - Lacrimosa sounds great - Goldfrapp's - Utopia/DeerStop/Pilots sounds great with them. Battlefield 1942 is punchier. i have them hooked to my PC's Sound Card - M-Audio - Revolution 7.1 - its sounds great - but the volumes maxed - no hiss whatsoever thax to M-Audios great DACS- which bring me to point 2 -- they need an amp to drive them well perhaps i'll be budget minded and get an OBH-11 sometime - xtreme4099 on head-fi.org maybe JMT will build me an amp there....also the new Matrix Reloaded Trailer Sounds great with these. Strength:
Open design lets out excess presure, keeping them comfortable for longer periods of time, soundscape is spot on, producing more depth than my speakers. you would need to spend quite a penny on speakers to reproduce the quality of sound that these produce.
Weakness:
realy, none when you consider what they are intended for. But, if I were to be petty and nit-pick, I would prefer thicker and stronger cables for studio use. To realy understand what sets these earphones appart from most out there, you realy have to understand the experience needed to let these shine. These are of 'open' design so you realy do need a controled environment to listen to them. Once you do though, they shine. Once you have them in a quiet room, put on your favorite song, regardless of type, sit back and listen for time on end. These let you listen for hours on end due to the comfort of them. I've had quite a few and these are by far the most comfortable I've ever had the pleasure of using. I've also put them to use in the studio invironment producing some bass heavy music and they still perform nice, although you can tell it's not what they were intended for. They shine best when something like Radiohead or the Doors is played. It's a experieince to listen to these performers with headphones like these. Clear Sound, comfortable
Weakness:
Bad quality music sounds to bad to even listen to As most reviews say, sounds good with a good source, sounds bad with a bad source. Lots of my mp3's sound like trash. Though on good sources I hear things in songs I never heard before, lots of the background music etc. I told my Dad I wanted them for xmas, he went to the GoodGuys and listened to them and then put them on his own list. Worth it at $120, it came with a $20 rebate and was $140 after shipping/tax paid after rebate. Similar Products Used: Koss TD-61 |

need better cable, hard to drive I've got my pair of 580 from ebay, it was used, but who cares! it still works great...besides, i won't need to spend time breaking them in. the sound coming out from this is awsome. however, it'd probably be a good idea to invest in a headphone amp. I've wanted one for so long and finally, i've got my creek OBH-11. right now i'm still in the process of breaking in my new amp. but the difference that i'm hearing right now is pretty clear. especially the bass... the bass is now awsome...the midrange is getting there.... i think i still have another 20 hours of break-in to do. but enough about the amp. the headphone itself produces extremely detailed representation of recordings. and since i'm a student and spends at least >10hrs in my room (studying, working, etc), i always listen to music via my 580. so it is great when you need to keep quiet and still want to enjoy music. i have a panasonic mini system... i don't really listen to it anymore now that i got my 580, i mainly use that for parties :) the only bad thing about this is the fact that signal goes out too easily... right now i'm using a 2nd pair of replacement cable. okay, i'm rambling... it's 3 in the morning... maybe i should stop... :) Similar Products Used: sony street style, cheap panasonic ones (included with my cd player), senns 433 |

a single cord would be nicer bought these for 125 euro (same as dollar:) great value for your money under 250 dollars (at least before august 2002) they produce great sound and are very comfortable (after adapting it to your head) i even sleep with these things.. not very comfortable:) but the sound makes it all up:) i like them very much. very light.. cord is long enough for normal use. have them connected straight to a marantz cd57mk2se. (great volume. it goes loud enough) (not as good as through an external amp i think) before i bought these. i've tested other headphones. and surfed the net for reviews at 125 euro this is a clear choice. (better than the new philips models at 200 euro) i've used the hd500 for a long time, nice but not in the same league (70 pound) again bought these phones for 30 euro,if you buy these for 70 pounds (110 euro)>not a great buy.. review from liquidtheater: I was very happy with the Sennheiser headphones. In a world of a lot of audio techno-wizardry that doesn't amount to much but sure costs a lot, it is one of the few purchases I made that I can really quantify. They simply sound awesome. When hooked up to an external receiver or amplifier that is fed from a CD player you are guaranteed a good listen. They are so accurate that they will blatantly show you any errors in the source material or in your setup, but they can hardly be blamed for being too accurate in their reproduction. F or 200 dollars they are a true bargain for two channel home listening. If this is what you seek, look no further Similar Products Used: hd 500, new philips models |

Strength:
Very good sound. Remarkable bass performance and high level capabilities. Very good comfort.
Weakness:
As this is no closed headphone your environment will also listen when playing high levels. Cable needs replacment after a couple of years in hard use. I bought these headphones back in 1993 when they were new on the market and have used them quite often since then. I always liked the products of this german company for their style/comfort/sound and was not disappointed with the 580. My recommendation: DON'T buy anything cheaper than the 580 because they are real good value and MUCH better than most of the competition up to this price point. Though worn out a bit after all these years they still sound fine. Clearly five stars. |

This, is a good headphone. Trust me, unless you have a megabuck headphone amplifier you will not be able to tell the differences between the HD-600 and this. |

Strength:
Extremly Comfortable, but not as comfortable as the HD570. Extremly Cheap for what you get. Well Constructed.
Weakness:
Do require a Headphone Amp to fully enjoy these. A Bit plasticy. I live in a craphole town that doesnt really have any good places to buy headphones. I wanted to enjoy listening to tunes while I played on my computer and not bother the neighbours. I went up to the store and found a pair of Sennheiser HD-570's and they just didn't sound bassy enuf for me.. So I did a lot of research on the net, and found that my only options were the grado and the sennheisers. Knowing how sennheisers feel (in general) I knew the 580's were going to be comfortable, so rather than going for grados which might have better sound I wanted something I could wear for awhile. Man was i impressed when I got the 580's, nothing like the 570's... These things have bass... even without a headphone amp... which leads me to my next purchase, a Creek OBH-11, man what a combo, this really helped bring the bass out on these babys. I don't really reccomend using these with a non amplified headphone output. So, how do these babys sound? Exactly how they should, very neutral, and spacious. They do not emphasize on anything, they reproduce the sound the way it should be and this is exactly what I wanted. Similar Products Used: HD-570 |

Good Sound, Bass, really comfortable, long cord
Weakness:
DURABILITY!!!!!, Leaks a little Sound Ok $200 for me for headphones is pretty darn expensive but I thought good money spent on headphones would be good for me in the long run. Ok first of all the good points.. Sound is very good but not showstopping certainly better than other headphones I've owned.. The are powered pretty good through my receiver without using a headphone amp. I find they were really comfortable and a nice long 10 foot cord was really handy. I had these things for 2 weeks and the right side went totally dead (no sound whatsoever) Major Durability concerned. I exchanged them for a pair of 590's (haven't got them yet) I read the reviews on here and found nobody had problems with the 590's but a few people were having sound cutting out problems with the 580's. Both were the same price so I thought I'd try my luck with the 590's. I'm a heavy-metal listener so I wouldn't mind having something less laid-back anyway.
