Strength:
Everything (BTW, what's wrong with the cable)
Weakness:
Severe price differences Well, believe it or not, these cups are the best i ever listened to. They give a lot of detail, they are very comfortable ... The bass that these headphones produce is just right. It can be boomy when it was intended to be boomy but it can also be very discrete and within the lines. It gives the bass that the people who made the music intended to give. So the complaints about the lack of bass are bullsh*t. The main reason why i wrote this review is the following: WATCH THE PRICES IN DIFFERENT STORES/COUNTRIES. In Belgium these headphones are priced at about 210 euros, i could buy them in Holland (without any special discount) for only 119 euros. I went to a store in belgium and listened to the hd 500's because they were the best ones i could afford at the belgian price. They sounded well and i wanted to buy them. But i listened to the 580's as well because i wanted to have an impression of the difference between different price categories and if the difference was worth spending an additionnal 100 euro's. It definetely is. So i decided to save some money to get me the 580's. Nevertheless I went to vogelzang and i saw the 580's for the 119 euro's (only 10 euro's more than the belgian price of the 500's) and i instantly bought them. They are so good and that for such a price. So plz people check out prices and buy these puppies, you can't get any better for the price. Strength:
Hight impedence (300 ohms), centered sound, perfect balance. Superb value for money
Weakness:
None My previous headphones were the AKG 141 Monitor, well there is a abyss between the 2 models. Senn's sound in the most balanced and realist one that i ever heard. For jazz or rock like Dire Straits o Tuck & Patty, nothing is the same. Someone says that the bass is not good like other models, but what dou you want ?? The original sound of your cd/mp3/dvd or a something different ??? Too much bass is not a great thing because it covers all the details and if you listen to classical music every song will sound like the same way. Now I'm using the 580 with the Senn's LUCAS Pro logic sound processor for DVD. With MI2 and PEARL HARBOUR the effects and the explosiones are great, clear and well balanced. With the AKG 141 the distorsion were dominant !!!! You have to think that 300 ohms are your guarantee for hight power sound adn effects...Enjoy Ps: sorry for my english...is very poor Similar Products Used: AKG 141, Senn 590 |

Strength:
Ultra revealing
Weakness:
Ultra revealing I first bought these a few years ago at a great price. I liked them on my "B"system but felt I needed a little better gear to get the most. So I bought theX-Cans headphone amp. Things got better, but still needed a little bass. So I got theX-PSU Power supply. Now things were more dynamic, but still the bottom end wasn''''''''t that great. So I got some Grado SR-325 headphones and things were nuch better in thebass and I thoght I was happy. Then I started swapping tubes in theX-Cans! Oh My GOD! Trash those crappy stock tubes theday you get them! Mullards, Amperex US White Labels or orange globe Holland! The I moved up to Telefunken! After a while I played w/ the power cord on theX-PSU and things went through the roof again! After a year or so I broke out these HD-580s again just for fun. Now things were VERY good! I had updated that "B" system to all pure silver ribbon ICs. A Bel Canto DAC-1 for digital conversion, and the great Acoustic Zen MC2 digital cable coming out of the Monarchy DIP into the BEl Canto and a Mikro Omega w/ DC biased active shield into the DIP. At this juncture the HD-580 STOMPED all over the Grado! I then removed the HT Pro AC-11 power cord from the X-PSu for a Mikro Omega active PC w/ WAVE treatment. The details were now incredible and it was a night and day difference. Finally a few months ago I contacted headphone.com and ordered their replacement cable for the Senns made by the Swedish cable compnay Clou Cable! YIKES! This was one heck of a $90 upgrade! These don''''''''t even sound like the same headphones I brought home anymore. I would put this headphone rig up against anything near $2000. The moral of the story is these HD-580 are very revealing! If you got a flaw in your system you are going to hear it w/ these and they are not going to cover anything up. My bass is awesaome now! I know not everyone is going to invest $500 in amps/power suppies w/ a $800 power cord to run the X-PSU and $90 headphone cable to hook up a set of $150 headphones let alone run these things w/ a $1400 DAC and plug the DAC into the headphone amp w/ $800 ICS and another $1200 worth of digital cables and such. Don''''''''t blame the cans! Look at source! Similar Products Used: LOTS |

Strength:
These are the best headphones for your money.
Weakness:
Could cause hearing loss if too loud. Limited range with cord. These are amazingly crisp and clear. Everything from classical to movies sounds extremely sharp and distinct with these headphones. Similar Products Used: Advent 770 wireless - they suck - I returned them for the sennheisers |

Strength:
Open sound, clear.
Weakness:
When used without an amp, harsh, fatiguing, overly open - not natural, NO bass, heavy to wear. Given that most things in HiFi are all opinion the following are my findings on this product. I bought Sennheiser HD580''s due to excellent reviews and an end of line price. Shortly after this I found the HD580’s to have a harsh fatiguing sound massively lacking in bass. I was told that the X-Cans would be a good buy, they managed one feat, curing the treble and making the sound very smooth, but the 580''s still have no bass to speak of. I feel that bass moves music along, and provides warmth and smoothness, but the 580’s simply don''t give me the sound I want. I recently tried my Technics closed back phones and found that, to me, they sounded far better than the X-Cans and 580 combination, and that was using the much cheaper Technics through the headphone output on my Marantz CD6000OSE !!. I also found an odd effect when using doing comparisons between the Technics and the Senn’s. When using the Senn’s they seemed to be unnaturally open, like using the “Hall” effect on a cheap mini system, almost digitally enhanced openness, which is just not natural sounding. On the whole disappointing, and now up for sale along with my X-Cans. Similar Products Used: Technics RP-HT86 |

Comfort, weight, and realistic sound. Can get a bundle deal with the DSP PRO for about $200.
Weakness:
Sennheiser is replacing the 580's and fazing out the DSP Pro. These headphones are awesome. The open air sound reproduction is incredible. I bought the headphones to listen to music and play PC games. I first bought the 570's and thought they were a little weak. I loved the Sennheiser design and comfort so I continued researching the Sennheiser brands until I found the 580's at a local retailer. After a test drive I had to have them. The bonus in the deal was the DSP PRO unit that came with. Similar Products Used: Sony |

Sound, comfort.
Weakness:
connectors, I Love my Sennheiser HD-580. I have X-cans headphone amplifier and the combination is wonderfull. Clear and nice sound. Bass is not very strong but it's very sweet. My friend have a STAX system. Stax sounds better and are, but stax headphones make my head start to sweat and I hate that. That's why I rather listen my Sennheiser than my friends stax... I am yet another who has put the sennheiser 580s with Musical Fidelity's X-Cans. In my case, I got the 580s first, and was initially a little disappointed: there was detail, but not much "body." In comparison with my neighbor's Grados, however (which I think were 80 and a now discontinued model--100? 120?), I found the 580s airier and cleaner, if a little cooler. Then I got the X-Cans, and it completely revolutionized the sound of my 580s. Still more detail, greater warmth, more body. My conclusion: the 580s are a great headphone, but you need to connect them to something good (such as the X-Cans) in order to get true value from them. And given the low cost of such a combo, the value is really quite awesome. Similar Products Used: Grado 80, 120 |

Strength:
still amazing that it is still here. It is that good. The HD600 is nothing more than a closer spec 580 with better materials. So the 580 still plays tunes even better
Weakness:
connection cable a source of trouble for these fine cans. Suspect the 600 will have same ills too. The cable problem resolution I have seems to have been very reliable. Using the cleaner from "Flitz" at www.flitz.com for you internet flyers out there. Call me nuts but if the sound really just didn't get better from the treatment. Clean connectors, clean sound. There could be a "connection". Ouch. Sorry. At any rate, the Sennheiser HD580 continues to impress with its glare, grit free presentation that you expect from lesser cans. With the comfortable felt pads, you enjoy wearing them. I will use these again in recording my companies big event coming this presidents day. It is now a trustworthy can that I can use with confidence...finally. It is like Ferrari performance with Fiat reliability. Now this can is working like a great set cans should. Enjoy. Strength:
Great sound reproduction, excellent clarity
Weakness:
Not sure how to fix, but get a "popping" sound when bass is up fairly high. You've never heard bass from headphones until you slap a pair of these on...bought them on this bbs new for $130 and am trying to get a pair of the 600's (because I'm greedy) :) Most comfortable headphones I've ever used, and I even try to make excuses to wear them, if I could just correct that occassional popping sound, I would be extremely happy.
