Strength:

Definitely works!!

Weakness:

Cost, Cannot be used WITHOUT noise cancelling feature

Definitely works as advertise. Once I turned it on, definitely reduced loud humming engine noise. Was able to enjoy movie. Earphones are also very comfortable to use.

Earphone runs on 2 AAA batteries. It does not give you the option of using them in "regular" mode. ie no need for noise cancelling feature. Would like to see how long the battery last. May be a hidden cost (not that the $299 purchase price is lite on the pocket.)

Weakness:

Cheap feel, terrible sound, horrific high price

Wanting somthing to deminish the sound of the airplane, I foolishly purchased these terrible headphones from Bose.
First of all, they hardly diminish the rumble of the airplane cabin, Secondly they have subpar sound that comes with a constant humming. I returned these immediately and bought 70 dollar noise canceling Aiwa's. These worked fine and didn't come with the humming!!

Strength:

Nice sound, no noise, comfortable as anything I have tried

I fly a fair amount and love to read. With the noise though, this is a bad pairing. With the Bose headphones, distracations are eliminated. The same is true for trains and just walking down a city street. I love sound but hate noise and the phone are wonderful for me.

Some People feel that since they spent 299.00 for headphones they are getting a great deal. These are absolute crap. If you are gonna spend this kinda jack get the Sennheiser Hd600s. They blow these Bose out of the water.

As for the plane 300 bucks for noise cancellers, what a joke, all the major manufacturers make noise cancellers and all of them are as good as the Bose and for much less.

You guys need to buy a clue and get with the real.

Strength:

Very effective noice cancellation for airline flights. Very comfortable to wear even for exteneded hours. Lightweight for a full headset design.

Weakness:

Expensive. Comes with nice case, but becomes somewhat bulky. However, can also use case to carry other items such as a CD player and CDs, MP3, etc.

I recently took a 10 hour flight and needed to make a quick purchase decision. I looked briefly at Sennheiser, Panasonic, and others but it really appeared Bose had their act together on this headset. Also, they had a 30 day money back return if not satisfied. I bought two pairs for my wife and I. One of the headsets had a bad switch on the electronics. Bose very promptly sent me out a replacement set.

I highly recommend this noise cancelling headset for airline travel. It's absolutely amazing how much engine noise is reduced, while still being able to carry on a conversation. I also used it with my CD player and it sounds great. Because it reduces the background noise so well, you barely have to raise the volume on the audio source to hear it loud and clear. This also helps out greatly with reducing fatique and ear safety.

The headset is very comfortable and can be worn for many hours. Because it's a full headset design, leaning your head against something with the headset is very uncomfortable. I tried all sorts of positions but never found one that would prevent me from touching the earpiece to some part of the seat or plane. Besides being uncomfortable when this happens, the plane's engine noise is directly coupled to the headset thus reducing its effectiveness (touching a seat is OK).

My wife and I are keeping the headsets. I will never fly again with it!

Noise cancelling is pretty cool even in my office. I can't wait to get on a plane. It does what it says it does and music and DVD played out of my portable unit aren't too bad. This is coming from a guy who only used ear plugs. I didn't realize how noisy my office was.

Strength:

Does reduce well LOW-PITCHED sounds

Weakness:

Constant very annoying white-noise high-pitch sound

I obtaines those headphone mostly by curiosity and also because I am very annoyed by airplane sound.
I haven't had the opportunity to use it on an airplane yet.
I tested using household noise: next to a dishwasher, next to a washing + drying maching working together, on the balcony etc.
Here is the result: very good at removing low-pitch sounds (but does not remove it completely). Very annoying constant high-pitch white noise that is often more annoying than most ambient sound and is actually painful to the ear.
I noticed other reviewer mentionned it but others didn't. So I am wondering wether it varies from set to set. Also I notice that all the best reviews are with the American Airline set and someone mention they work better then the consumer version.
As a headphone itself these unit are quite average and because you can't remove the noise-cancellation when using the headphone you have to deal with the white noise which fortunately is noticable only in low-volume passage of a song.

Strength:

Better than listening to noise on an airplane.

Weakness:

Poor audio quality.

I've always believed that Bose does some things fairly well and some things poorly. But for some reason, the name Bose means high-quality to a lot of people. Well, these headphones are not high-quality and are too expensive. They do a better job at canceling noise than other noise-cancelling headphones. They're comfortable to wear too. But there is some hiss that can be distracting (but not as distracting as sitting on a plane without them). Sound quality is very poor. Music is very flat, lacks bass, and is a lot less impressive than the sound you'll get from a $75 pair of Sony headphones. If you're looking for high quality audio, keep looking. But if you fly a lot, want to use the included adapters to plug into the plane's audio system, and want to reduce the wind and engine noise on the plane so you can sleep during your flight, then they're good. $150 would be a much more realistic price but Bose tends to charge more than is fair for all of their products.
