Strength:

Absolutely stupendous sound quality and delightful noise cancelling capability.

Weakness:

None that I can see.

Well I must say these headphones are the best I've ever heard. Bose has done it once again!! They completely block out any irritating noises, and believe me there are some very irritating noises where I live. Bose is so confident, they even let you try the headphones for 30 days, risk free!

Strength:

Comfort, Noise canceling effect, sound quality

Weakness:

Bose reputation

These are outstanding cans! I was very hesitant to purchase anything from Bose (classic Bose hater!). I travel quite a bit however, and the Senheiser HD600's just aren't practicle in a noisy environment. I auditioned these babys on a cross country flight (the airline I was on offered them in first class as a standard feature) and was very impressed. I then went out and listened to several other noise canceling sets including Sony and Brookstone and they just didn't compare. The Bose were far superior. The fatigue of air travel is terrible, but is greatly reduced when you don't have to listen to the engine noise. These headphones are not for everyone, they are definately a niche product. I noticed some harsh reviews by people that are looking for standard headphones. These are meant for air travel, and IMHO, they are the best product out there for that purpose. The sound quality, while not Senheiser or Grado level, is outstanding. And the fact that you can cancel all outside noise really gives you a relaxing environment regardless of whats going on around you.

Like I said earlier, I am a classic Bose hater, but I think they have finaly hit a home run with this product.

Strength:

Comfort, fit, noise-cancelling

Weakness:

Price, build quality, sound quality, price, and build quality.

I've borrowed my mom's Bose Noise Cancelling headphones for a little over a month now, and have listened to lots of music with them. The noise-cancelling is great, but that's it for greatness.
Turn these headphones on and you'll notice some white noise, which may upset you. But turn them back off a minute later, and you'll realize that the white noise is much preferrable to the noise from the AC, fridge, computer, airplane, etc. etc. etc. The white noise makes these headphones primarly suited for a single purpose: activity where you want to drown out the outside world. They do this well. However, I have several problems with them.
1) the microphone, if it is that, that detects and then cancels out noise, is entirely too sensitive. put your finger over it and the headphones will scream at you, and not in a good way. tap the outer casing and they will amplify that noise. Turn your head too fast, and the headphones may sound like they've been overdriven. Look into the wind, and you'll get a kind of whistling sound.
2) the speakers. At first I thought that these headphones delivered magnificent sound. They certainly aren't bad, and I like the fact that they come with an amplifier, although I would prefer that it used AAs. After having listened to a range of music, however, I'm less enthused. The mid and treble are fine, just fine(maybe they're fantastic, but I'm no audiophile), but the bass is just horrible. These headphones will bottom out at the slightest hint of a boom. Maybe my mom blew them out, maybe they just suck. But they sound like crap when the volume is turned up, and the bass is pumping. Not just "not good enough bass response", oh no. Imagine this: cut a circle into the molding of a paper cone speaker, turn it up, and you have a good idea of what I'm dealing with.
3) build quality. They broke. I didn't break them, so I don't know if they were abused or not, but the part where the earbud attaches to the part that goes over your head, where it swivels, is attached by a 1/3" thick piece of plastic. That's right, plastic. My mom took them out of the bag, and they were broken. I've managed to get them working again with some scotch tape, and besides the fact that they don't swivel anymore, the sound wasn't hurt, nor was the comfort.

These headphones are very, very comfortable, by the way. The fit is fantastic, and they look good to boot. But they broke, and that's unacceptable. Yours might not break, and if they don't, they're quite nice, but all in all, not worth 300 bucks. I'd drop $120 on these babies and be happy with my purchase. My reccomendation is that you avoid these. I'm sure there are better ones. I sure hope so.

Strength:

Almost total noise reduction. Well made and extremely comfortable.

Weakness:

Could be a little more compact for travel. Unit does not fold up. However, this is getting picky.

The Bose Noise Reduction Headphones are the way to go for the avid airplane traveler. These headphones almost eliminates jet engine noise and makes listening to movies or music a new experience when flying.
The headphones come with everything you need to hook up to your portable CD player,DVD player your home audio syytem. Bose even gives you to type of cases for traveling. Let me say you are paying for these extras but they thought this product out. If you are looking for a quality set of headphones that are without a doubt the best for what they do the 299.95 you spend is well worth it.

Used them on a flight from Dallas to Costa Rica. The movie was actually a pleasure to watch. My portable CD player was also refreshingly enjoyable. I won't fly without them anymore. I arrived fresher than any other trip I have taken. I would recommend them to anyone who is facing a flight of more than two hours and would like to take their music with them.

Strength:

Great noise cancellation, very good sound quality, extremely comfortable

Weakness:

They are pricey... but what Bose isn't?

I had the opportunity to audition these new headphones on an American flight to Europe this year - they are complimentary in first and business class - but they won't let you keep them!

I have never really been a Bose fan, always cautious of their huge marketing presence and dramatic claims. I have heard Bose speakers in some retail stores, but never really 'auditioned' them.

That said, I have to confess that these headphones are really great! I brought my latest pair of noise-cancelling headphones (the Sony ones) with me, but after a quick comparison, I put them away. The free Bose ones that American gave us sounded MUCH better, both for CD's and the in-flight movie (The sound quality is actually quite good from the in-flight movies, just never heard it without the background noise before).

I have tried several brands of noise-cancelling headphones in order to make flying less stressful, but none live up to these Bose ones. In fact, the Kenwood ones seemed to actually make the noise level WORSE when in the passive mode, and with it active it was the same as not using them at all... and talk about painful to wear...

What I wasn't expecting was the great sound quality these Bose headphones have. The bass in particular was outstanding, very deep and punchy. Highs were clear and open, not exaggerated. And it was nice to be able to experience 'dynamic range' on a plane! I could even hear the softest solo passages clearly.

Top of the list of strengths, however, was their comfort. I wore them for about 4 hours at a time, with no discomfort at all. In fact, it was easy to forget they were there. I have never found that of any headphones of any type before, normally after a couple of hours my ears hurt.

One small note is that unlike the other units I have tried, the electronics and batteries are in a small belt-pack type unit, about the size of a small MP3 player, so you need to have a place to put it (I put it in the seat-back pocket)

I think I will look for a set of these online, since I can't fly American everytime.

not meant for travel, male jack is too short, battery life(?) and price

I first discovered Noisebuster Extreme Headphones about 4 years ago while shopping at the Sharper Image. I bought the pair for $140.00. I loved them. They were a bit tight around the ears, but it was better than the sound of engine, a/c unit and crowd noise on the plane. One ear broke last year,so travel has been a noisy affair since.
Recently, a co-worker lent me his BOSE headphones for my 13 hour flight to Phoenix and back.Boy did they look cool. The comfort, sound quality and just the "look at me, I spent alot of money on these" effect was great. I did notice a slight improvement in sound quality over my older set, ear fatigue was minimal, as I did watch the entire Godfather trilogy on my Panasonic DVD player. The unit comes with 3 settings: Off, On as headphones, or On as The Noise Cancelling Headset.Don't expect the headset to act like earplugs, but they do a great job at cleaning out the extra noise that makes air travel such a drag.
Sleeping with these babies is not easy, but if you are sleeping, whats a little background noise.I was also concerned over the need for the unit to be turned on for use. There is no loop thru setting like my Noisebusters included.
Overall, if you got the cash, don't mind the carrying case and enjoy showing up your fellow "humanoid" passengers, these are of high quality and better than your average headphones.
I later found my older set on sale for $19.95.I bought 3 pairs; and they fold up nicely, thank you very much.
