Sony MDR-V700DJ Over-Ear

Sony MDR-V700DJ Over-Ear

DESCRIPTION

These Studio Monitor Series headphones incorporate high-end materials and advanced engineering to produce critically clean, exceptionally clear sound for professional and high fidelity applications. Swivel earcups enable single-sided monitoring for DJ and remix applications. Listen to house sound with one ear while you cue up the next track with the other. An auto return swivel mechanism brings the earcups back to the standard listening position, giving you one less thing to worry about. The 50 mm diameter drive units deliver reference-grade sound and enable superior power handling with deeper bass, lower distortion and wider dynamic range. The frequency response extends down to an extraordinary 5 Hz. 3000 mW power handling means these headphones can handle the most stringent professional applications, standing up to day-in, day-out use at very high output levels.

Strength:

Lots, of bass, sounds nice

Weakness:

Too much bass, certain hi frequencies sound grainy

When I first got these I was certainly amazed by the looks. I mostly used it to plug into my discman and it made the discman sound good. At first I agreed with people that it was too tight around the head after wearing them for a while, but then I figured out that if I wore them 1 notch looser it would feel better. After I did that I never complained about the tightness of the headphones.
When I plugged it into my home stereo, it sounded very nice. The drivers picked up many notes in my music, which I liked. I did however notice something that I really didn't like. At certain high frequencies with human vocals it sounded grainy. It wasn't clear and crisp at all. It flat out sounded grainy. The bass is too much, it does tend to cloud the mids. I've cranked this thing to very loud volumes and pushed it to it;s limit and yes that is very loud. No I'm not crazy and yes I can still hear. When you play it as loud as I did, the bass really shakes your head.
This set is really good for DJ, very good for trance and techno type music. As an audiophile I would have to say they aren't too shabby. I once downloaded the trailer for final Fantasy on my laptop and it really did sound like I was in the theather when I plugged this set to my lap top.
If you are an audiophile looking for a GOOD head set I'd say stay away. That grainy sound gets on my nerves everytime I hear it. I listen to alot of vocals too so it's kinda dissappointing for me. I would like to rate it highly, but as an audiophile there are just too many short comings.

Strength:

BASS! Looks, folding and swiveling design, sensitivity (perfect for portable use!)

Weakness:

Swivel design takes some getting used to, on-the-ear design somewhat uncomfortable, highs not as clear as MDR-V900

SUMMARY: The Sony MDR-V700DJ's have immense bass response--perfect for DJ mixers! Otherwise, they are less suitable for audiophile use than my MDR-V900's (or the Sennheisers with model numbers of at least 545). The highs aren't as clear or detailed as the aforementioned headphones.

The supraural design of these headphones actually clamps onto your head, squeezing the actual thinly-padded hard-plastic driver plane onto your ears. The earpieces~~which swivel a full 360 degrees for DJ monitoring~~makes putting them on a challenge. And the metallic-silver finish on these headphones will certainly turn heads in the mixing studio.

BOTTOM LINE: If you like bass, and don't mind their cool looks and relative discomfort, buy them; otherwise, look elsewhere. Personally, they're overpriced at $149.99 at Tweeter; don't pay more than $110 for them.

I currently own three Sonys (MDR-V300, MDR-V600, MDR-V900). I also demoed four Sennheisers (HD470, HD490, HD565 and HD570) at Tweeter.

Strength:

these guys have already said it all..

Weakness:

carrier bag needs to be bigger

The way I like to put it is.. "these phones are the pornstar-girlfriend of headphones" I am a DJ and can wear these things all damn day long. They're SOOOO comfortable.

Good job, Sony.

Buy them, you will not regret it for a second!
They may cost more than average, but there is a good reason for it.

Strength:

Very clear bass and treble, cool design, makes girls look at me, very very good dynamic bass - very deep but still clear.

Weakness:

To small bag

The headphones are the best thing for the working DJ. We are only " fore fun mixing to partys and at home DJ's " but we think that this project is the best headphone for DJing as well as for HiFi listening. Now in danish: Vi er de sejeste DJ's i verden, og det ved i godt, venlige polka hilsner fra MixMasterMartin, DJ And & SoundMaster K
