Strength:

Plays mp3,cd-r/rw,vcd....optical output

Weakness:

skipped twice while playing a DVD

I bought the display model for a decent price..It playes everthing I have thrown at it..(not shure about SVCD?)
The only problem I've had so far is it skipped twice while playing Indipendance Day..the disc was clean and fairly scratch free, but it was a rental so that may be why...

overall I would say its a decent machine for the money.

Strength:

Great image and sound quality, full compliment of audio and video outputs, plays Video CDs and MP3s, nice on-screen overlay menu, nice feel to the remote.

Weakness:

I'm always hitting the wrong buttons for menu navigation because they placed the play/ff/back/stop buttons in a circle too. Awkward zoom procedure.

This is another refurb unit from Egghead.com, it was about $130 total with tax and shipping.

I started out with S-video and thought the image was great, then switched to component video (on a Panasonic 27" TV) and the image was still great but the color was better than I'd thought possible with TVs. DVDs on computer monitors still easily beats TV resolution, but not the color richness and quality.

I am using the optical audio port and both DTS and Dolby 5.1 sound really great. Standard CDs sound great too. The limitations of Dolby Pro Logic are now easy to spot (no fault of the player).

The MP3 menu system is pretty simplistic and weak, they could have done it much better.

The remote has a few odd points, as noted above, but is better than most.

My overall rating would be 4.5 stars, but there isn't an option for that.

Strength:

Looks cool. Multiple DVD playback speeds: 2x, 4x, 16x, 100x

Weakness:

Poor DVD playback, Poor CD playback, No MP3 playback, as advertized.

Total and Utter Disappointment!

I originally bought this DVD Player because Aiwa advertised that it would play back virtually any media type: DVD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3's on CD-R(W), and VCD.

I was very disappointed when the unit would not play MP3's at all. Instead of immediately returning the unit, I tried to research to find out if I was doing something wrong or if there were any other things that could be done to allow the unit to play MP3's. I tried everything that I could find on messageboards and other sources on the Internet. I tried burning on CD-R, burning on CD-RW, tried using different brands of CD-R's, tried putting all the MP3's in one folder, using no folders, using multiple folders, ripping MP3's using different methods/software, ripping at different bitrates, etc, etc.

My Aiwa unit NEVER played MP3's, despite my efforts. By the time I had given up, the place from which I purchased the unit had gone out of business, so I am stuck with it.

Even more upsetting is the unit’s performance during regular CD and DVD playback. During DVD playback, the unit freezes at least once per DVD and sometimes more. Sometimes it freezes and the units controls are rendered useless, so the only thing we can do is turn it off and then back on and forward the DVD to the spot where it froze and hope that it doesn’t happen again.

CD playback is not much better. The unit often skips or "garbles" the sound. This happens with regular CD's, as well as CD-R(W)'s. When the unit does actually play CD's with no errors, the sound quality is very poor when compared with our 12 year old Sony Single CD Player-X111ES, which was also submerged in about 4 inches of flood water in our garage.

I have not tried VCD playback, so perhaps that is the one medium that actually works.

I will never be buying any Aiwa products again and I advise readers to steer clear of Aiwa as well.

Strength:

Nice looking unit and it appears to do everything claimed in the advertising.

Weakness:

Slow to load. It took a while to figure out all the buttons on the remote but I didn't bother to read the manual first either.

I bought this unit because Aiwa claimed that it can play audio CDs in addition to MP3 files and of course DVDs.

I have not had the first bit of trouble playing a wide variety of DVDs, audio CDs and CD-R MP3s. The video and sound seem flawless to me. I suspect that the other reviewers who are having trouble have gotten a defective unit or one that wasn't properly aligned before it left the factory.

So far, I am very happy with this unit.

Strength:

plays everything

Weakness:

long load times. no fast fwd/rew scan for mp3's

its a great product for the money. the first dvd player that i bought was the hk dvd5 and which would only play dvd's and regular cd's and it cost me over $300. then i tried the dvd50... could not justify keeping it for the price that i paid ($500). i stumbeld upon the awia and it gets the job done whatever the job for the right price. a couple of things that i dont care for: the long load times for everything and the fact that it does not alow fast fwd/rew while listing to mp3's.

Picture, Features

Weakness:

none

I used the Aiwa for about 6 months now and no problems at all. Flawless video, clear audio CD and MP3.Shortcoming with MP3 is the lack of shuffle playback and trunkated display of track names. Most problems with playing MP3s probably are due to the way they were burned. People having trouble getting the player to read their disks should try burning at a slower speed or use the proper format (ISO 9660 or Joliet). Excellent machine!!!

......EXCELLENT SOUND AND IMAGE.......

Weakness:

LOAD TIME TO PLAYS, BUT NO PROBLEM...I PREPARE MY POPCORNS IN THIS TIME..HA,HA..

I bought this dvd player six months ago. I don't have any problem yet. I'll hope don't have problems in the future.
The sounds and resolution are spectacular. All concerts in my home theater fells so good.
For the price I consider good buy.
I plays dvd's from different regions. Region 1-4...but I preffer buy dvd from region 1 because in region 4 lose some specs. For example: No dts, english stereo or 5.1, no directors or eliminated scenes. I recommend buy dvd's in DVDEMPIRE.COM ....BETTER PRICES THAN AMAZON.COM..
I Love my Aiwa 370,..But i'm thinking buy the 480 model..come with pal/ntsc swicht..and...DD/DTS decoder..ergonomic remote control...but i don't know multiregion capability....if somebody know please sent me info...

Strength:

Good audio and video, plays mp3

Weakness:

disc load time

This is my first DVD player and I'm not dissapointed. The video is good and the sound is great. My last DVD is the Dream Theater's concert from New York that I saw previously on VHS. There's no way you can compare the two. It plays mp3's just like my computer does. To everybody who has problems with mp3's (skipping etc.) - get a better recording software and encode in 128, 160 or 192 kbps (not something in the middle), you won't have no more trouble.
