Strength:

Plays everything that you throw at it. Also has all types of outputs coax, digital optical, component video. Good for people who have space restrictions

Weakness:

Disc loading takes too long, jumps on both DVD and MP3 playback.

I bought this from egghead.com last week, and have been using it for a week. I have found that this jumps while playing MP3 songs. The player went dead once, and I head to pull the plug and power it again to make it work. I also had some trouble playing Matrix DVD. This is a refurbished item. I wanted to know whether this is a general problem with the player OR with the particular unit that I have bought. Please send replies to: nudayakumar@hotmail.com

Strength:

Plays MP3's as advertised!

Weakness:

Takes 45 seconds or more before attempting to play DVD's or simply spits the disk out with "Disk Error" in the display window.

Be advised that this was a refurbished item, so buyer beware. Apparently, the work was done by a company called Sohnen Enterprises which offered a 30 day warranty on repairs (will be working the RMA next week).

I have to believe that this particular unit is a bad apple and that had Sohnen actually refurbished the item and not simply placed it in a new box and shipped, it would have worked as well as the other reviews clearly indicate.

As for the previous reviewer that asked about getting DD5.1 out of the unit...this player does not have onboard DD or DTS decoding, so you'll need a receiver with an optical or coaxial digital input that has the required decoder onboard (you'll also need the corresponding cable).

First i bought the Pioneer, but it was too loud. Then i bought the Panasonic, but it was to crappy!
But now i have found my dreammachine, the Aiwa 370!
You get excellent sound if you play mp3´s and cd´s, and the picture is great!
It´s multiregion out of the box, and it converts between pal/ntsc (european model)!
Top!

Strength:

Great picture and sound.

Weakness:

Remote control seems little hard to use, but once you memorize the buttons it's a piece of cake.

Get the multi-region free remotecontrol programmable hack here.

Strength:

Flawless picture. Zoom function. Quiet operation. Component, S Video, and Composite Video options.

Weakness:

Load time could be a little quicker, but it's not all bad.

I was kind of unsure about buying this model only because I figured JVC made some of the best DVD players. This is an excellent DVD player. Especially for the money. I thought I would have to pay $250 or more to get the options and performance from a machine like this. The picture is absolutely flawless. Crisp. The remote takes a little getting used to, but I guess many do when there are alot of options. You can't go wrong with this machine. You can do far worse by chosing something else.

Strength:

Connections, MP3 PLAYLIST feature

Weakness:

No random MP3 playback feature

I bought the new Aiwa XD-DV370 at Circuit City during a "2 day sale" for $199. I bought the unit so my two most frequently used DVD players would play MP3's.
First, visual aesthetics. The unit looked nice, had a decent looking remote, and of course that which is most important a full set of connections. The fact the unit has coax, optical, RCA, and component output is very nice.
The first actual test would be a MP3 cd. I used a memorex blue cd. The unit took about 30 seconds to display the file list once it did I was ecstatic to see as many as 14 characters displayed for MP3 tracks. This was indeed an improvement on my Apex's mp3 playback, which we know uses the 8.3 naming convention. Next was the playlist feature. Now this is a breakthrough as far as i'm concerned. Basically you are able to add tracks from your different directories to a playlist on the right hand side of the display. FABULOUS, Farkin Fabulous! An Mp3 playlist on my dvd player, quite nice. Also you are able to play a MP3, and navigate the other directories withoutr stopping playback. So, much to my amazement, this unit surpasses the Apex AD600A in MP3 playback.
Next was DVD playback, the on screen display was overall intuitive and sufficient. The support for languages on this machine is sick, I mean You want Swahili? You got it Swahili. In fact does anyone know if this unit is multiregion right out of the box? Please email me if you know. I see a "hack" here - http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/info/multiregion/full/aiwa370.asp But I am unsure if this is just for the UK model, will try and let you know.
Other than that playback was solid in picture and sound. The only other odd thing I saw in the owners manual was a refernce to Karaoke settings, yet the unit does not have Microphone inputs.
In regards to VCD I tried two standard 352 X 240 vcd's I made with Acraptec 4.02. They both work, but not quite as smoothly as with the APEX AD600A (AKA "the King").
Overall this Aiwa unit is a solid value that has the best MP3 playback I've seen on a DVD player.

Strength:

Does a lot of things

Weakness:

Doesnt do any of them particularly well

My first unit arrived DOA. It took forever to receive my replacement. Playing DVDs isnt too bad. They sometimes start out shakey but restarting gets things going right. CDs (including home burned)play well. I bought this unit because of its ability to play MP3s. It does that horribly. I can tolerate the slow starting time but I havent had this unit make it through a single MP3 CD and Ive tried several. They play fine on my computer but the Aiwa just cant get through more than a few songs before completely crapping out. If you want an inexpensive DVE player this is a good choice. If you want it to do MP3s you will have to do some shopping. I dont know if there is anything available yet that can play MP3s very well. If I had it to do over, I would save my money a bit longer and get a better DVD player that can really play MP3s. Even if it means waiting for the next generation of players to be introduced.
