Strength:

i find this unit to be of relative ease to navigate and control. it has great quality video and audio output using only the rca inputs/outputs. I have had no problems with this unit

Weakness:

none observed as of yet

I have had nothing but good viewings of films since i purchased this product. As for it not being of the highest grade DVD player, it works tremendously well. I have not had a single problem with this DVD player. I own roughly 50 DVDs as of now, and everyone of them works 100% with the Aiwa XD-370.

I also use it for mp3 playback. Albeit, not all of the time as I have multiple mp3 devices. But, the playback of audio cds and of MP3 cds is pristine as any other cd player. I read where someone suggestd using only 128 kbps bitrates and higher. This is what i use, althought more often it is even higher bitrate than a mere 128 kbps. I usually have my mp3 encoded at 256kbps....

The remote is very nice as it provides quick and easy access to any of the features stored within the DVD. Its quite nice, the buttons are of a decent size and easily found on the remote.

I just cant say enough of my models performance. If anyone has had bad experiences, it is due to those flukes within a piece of hardware.

I bought an Aiwa bookshelf stereo system. I had not had it even 3 months before the cd player would not play a cd at all. Thus, I had some fears of this DVD player not performing to par, but it has done an excellent job thus far.

Strength:

Good playback

Weakness:

MP3 audio quality poor
Criss-cross across video image of people
Not all audio CDs sound great

I wondered if I had made the right decision by buying this player. The MP3 audio quality is bad and the fact remains that the MP3 feature on DVD players has not been fine-tuned yet so don't fall for it.

The audio is not good when you play classical CDs or movie soundtracks but is nice with pop and rock songs. The virtual surround sound is just a gimmick - it's just that so virtual that its not audible!

The video image is good when you use the best possible connection - the RGB or svideo. The RCA-to-RCA connection gives you this criss-cross images at the border of an actors face which disappoints me.

If you want to buy a player, go for a Sony. The audio and video is much much better. Believe me.

Why oh why did I buy this?

Strength:

Plays CD-R/CD-RW, MP3, VCD and multi region DVD!

After reading all the negative reviews here,
I've decided to buy other models which can
playback MP3 and VCDs from a CD-R/CD-RW.

For a test I brought along 6 different brand
of CD-RW CD to the shop. All CD-RW was
burned with NERO. Two of them are VCDs,
and the rest MP3 with both long and short
file names.

Other models simply failed to read from any of the
CD-RW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I test it on AIWA, it worked beautifully!!!!!
Plays all VCDs and MP3 on any kind of CD-RW!

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Strength:

Good picture,optical outputs,mp3 & cr/rw playback

Weakness:

Nothing worth noting

I almost purchased an Apex until I read some reviews on this site. I almost also bought a Samsung from Best Buy after the salesman told me how great of a dvd player it was- the reviews on the site gave it about a 2.5....I did'nt want to take my chances. The load time is alitte slow but if you put the disc in then go get some popcorn you'll never notice. As far as audio goes excellent sound through DD or DTS 5.1 and I have yet to see any video flaws during playback.

Strength:

Price, features, Video

Weakness:

sound, loading time

This is a decent product for the price. Thought the 24bit/96khz processor was average. Overall it gives solid performance for the money. Have no regrets purchasing this unit. The mp3 files play flawlessly, though with average sound.

Weakness:

The OSD is a bit dull, not very user attractive.

Great set of features and a prominent and clear power button.
Haven't played MP3s, so can't comment on that.

Mine is currently a region 3 DVD player, any of you know how to modify it to be a region free DVD player.

thanks a lot

Weakness:

slow loading , gotta admit ( doesn`t really bother me), had some skipping with one cd

I spent a lot of time on reading all these reviews and I was amazed by all the good points this model got . I went to my local Circut City to check it out myself. Unfortunatelly I think it is true what I read in some previous reviews this model is too hard to be found now, I guess they really discontinued it. The CC had the last model , I compared it to Pioneer 525 and Sony 560D . Pioneer had a beautiful, clear and sharp picture , the best of these 3, but Aiwa had the best sound reproduction , Sony was second each time, I checked all these dvd players playing Matrix and then some music on a cd. It was a tough choice for me but when it came to the value Aiwa was a definite winner , only $219.00. But because it turned out that it was the last model that was always on display and some dude stole its remote they gave me a nice discount and I paid $149. Now I guess I can get a remote from Aiwa for $20-30 .I played some movies with this dvd hooked up to my Yamaha 5250 and the sound is fantastic. For music it is a little bit above the average , never tried mp3s yet. If you can still find this dvd player do get it. Aiwa makes a lot of crapy audio-video equipment but this product is really exceptional in quality. Can`t be beat for the bucks!!!!
