Strength:
The only strength is it was a gift and didn't cost me the money that was flushed down the toilet in its purchase.
Weakness:
It's useless. I can't get it to play any DVD all the way through, anymore much to the dismay of my 2yo during Toy Story. It continually locks up and the reset routine doesn't seem to work most of the time. It's absolute junk as far as I can tell. I will never buy another JVC product. I believe this company must be complete undiluted manure to produce this piece of Devil's Dung. I can' imagine why anyone would buy one after visiting this website. I hope the Panasonic I'm about to buy to replace this twisted creation works, or I'm selling the DVD collection altogether and going back to video. Similar Products Used: None |

If all of your Audio/Video equip is JVC, then the CompuLink rocks. Tons of feature back in '98.
Weakness:
The Remote and the Firmware. When I initially purchased this product, I loved it. About 6 months later, it just stopped working. After a long battle with JVC, they admitted that there was a flaw in an IC on-board the DVD decoded. The replaced it and all was well again. Then I started to buy/rent DVD's that would not play at all. They kept ejecting immeadiatly upon initial read of the disc. I recently learned that this was due to another incapability issue with the JVC firmware. Now, alas, the DVD won't play at all. It attempts to read and then just dies. I fear the laser pick-up is dead. So, I purchased a plain jane Toshiba SD-2700 from Onecall.com and all is perfect again. The SD-2700 is quite plain compared to the JVC, but, at least it works all the time. Similar Products Used: Toshiba SD-2700 |

Strength:
The DVD player has an easy to use remote and menu system. t seemed real promising in the begining.
Weakness:
That fact that it doesn't play after a year of use is its main weakness. This DVD player would have been a great product if it worked. It was very user friendly with an easy to use remote. But its very fustrating when you pay all that money for something which should last for years only lasts for a couple of months to a year. If JVC admitted to the defects and provide support for those customers who purchased this product I would probably stay a loyal costomer but since that didn't happen I can truely say I will never buy a JVC product again. |

Strength:
Automatically Freezes and skips without every to have to use the remote, no other brand can offer. Has a very bright display that reads "NO DIsc" This unit is so advance that no recording complany has come out with a standard the the player can read and work properly
Weakness:
None. Most people think it is good for a paper weight but I think it is not even good for that---Product is way Too big and take up too much room to be a paper weight. The unit been a problem since day one. The unit would freeze up and stop after ~50minutes of playing. I actually brought the unit back to JVC and personally handed the unit to the counter guy at JVC repair center, I didn't plan on paying for shipping. This didn't happen just once but 3 times. The first two times, the unit was return to me with them saying that the unit was fine and passes all their test. After the 3rd time they finally were able to "duplicate" the problem and fix my current paperweight. Now, after using it for a total of under 100 hours it just displays NO DISC (paid $450 for under 100 hours of use??? comes out to $4.50 an hour to operate). What a piece of junk, I would probably never buy another JVC nor recommended it to anyone. I hope enough people realize this and avoid any future purchasing blundles with JVC. |

Strength:
Where do I start.First,it can bring a 17 month old son to tears by showing him the first 35min. of Toy Story then instantaneously freezing the picture indefinitly. Then, it has the ability to show you multiple frames layered on top of each other. Finally, it can make a liar out of you by telling your son that their is "NO DISK" in the component when indeed there is one.
Weakness:
That the unit exists at all. I purchased the player almost two years ago. At that time we didn't use it much and I was happy with the purchase. We only started to use it about a year ago after our son was old enough to watch it.It worked well enough for awhile, but shortly after we started using it more, we found out what people were complaining about. I am obviously dissappointed with the quality of this product that JVC thought was good enough to put thier name on. After hearing that you can't even fix the problem permanently it makes me really irate at JVC for not owning up to their obviously inferior product. I will never purchase another JVC product. If anyone hears of a class action lawsuit count me in. Similar Products Used: none yet. Looking at the Sony 300 |

Makes for an attactive paper weight or door stop.
Weakness:
This thing is a piece of $#!+ I had the unit for about a year before it quit working. There was no indication that it was going bad. I just stuck a DVD in and it wouldnt play. I thought it was a decent player up till the point it quit working. Most of my home electronics are JVC so I thought this would be a good product. I thought my problem was a fluke but after reading all of the reviews posted here it obviously wasnt. I've decided to never buy anything from JVC again. I replaced the unit over a year ago with a Panasonic and I love my new DVD player. On a positive note the JVC will still play CD's but that's not what I shelled out $400 for. Came in a nice box
Weakness:
Contents of box (dvd player) doesn't work Worked OK for first year - and being that we only had 3 dvds it wasn't used much. Started Freezing and Skipping. Now it just says NO DISC. We tried resetting it with out any luck. I sent an email to JVC support but after reading these reviews, I think we will head over to Best Buy and pick up a new DVD player (ofcourse not a JVC). If anyone follows up on a lawsuit, count us in. Thanks to all of you who had posted, too bad I didn't read it before purchasing a JVC product. Van Halen not Van Hagar. |
