It makes a great nic-nac stand!

How much time do you have?

What a piece of garbage! I started having problems just after the warranty ran out. It hasn't died yet but it might as well be dead. It skips large sections of movies, or it reads a movie disc as "no valid disc". When I went to take it in for service at their Canadian address, gee, no one was home! What a surprise!

The unit worked ok when I first got it. Started acting strange after the first month of use. Didn't play all dvd's. and would have to unplug it regularly to keep it working. This unit is not worth buying.

Unrelieable and finally defective

I received the DVD player as a gift. It worked fine for about two weeks, then started to skip and break up. unplugging helped for a while. After about 18 months it just quit. From the reviews I've read I must have gotten a good one!

Worked good for the first 3 times

Terrible...I received practically no usage of this machine! I don't beleive I will ever buy from this company again.

I purchased this product the day after Thanksgiving sale. I have used it only three times with no problems. It has now been less than one year I have owned this, and as I tried to use this for the 4th time, I am experiencing the same problem as others. Tray will not open, buttons do not work, and power button does not go off...what a peice of junk!

Worked Great easy to use

After about 8 months of casual use screen started to discolor or DVDs would stop occasionally would have to unplug and wait a while before would operate properly now after about a year and 3 months tray wont open all buttons are non funtional unplugging does not help its just a piece of furniture with lights on the phone with customer service as i write this for the last hour and no one will answer just kept on hold worse purchase i've ever made by far.

Purchasedat a WAL-MART day after thanksgiving sale thought it was a great deal for a first DVD player

Low price

Kept getting a readout of incorrect disc. Would have to unplug the unit, wait, then replug & power on. The it would read the disc. As of last week, I can no longer use the remote control, or any on unit button. Cannot get the tray to open. This was either a huge mistake to buy this unit or it was a huge mistake to buy it at the Madision Square Garden Sale of the Century - which was just a low budget flea market.

I bought this unit for my 9 year old daughter's room. It was inexpensive, but did what was needed for her to play DVD's

Cheap?

Short life

I bought it a year ago from a garage sale. The seller told me that he got it as a prize in a TV show or something like that. It was OK for a year. I didn't like that fact that the LEDs didn't have any labels to show what they mean. I didn't like the fake buttons that are there for no purposes. I didn't like that the power lamp cannot be turned off. (Is this only for my unit?) But it worked OK for me for a year. It had almost all features. It could be turned region-free with a hack. Very good. But yesterday, it suddenly died. The tray stopped opening. The power button became disabled. Unplugging the unit didn't help. It does't show the startup screen either. I thought of calling their 800 number tomorrow, but many reviewers comments are discouraging. I guess repair would cost more than the unit anyway. So I bought SONY Playstatio 2 instead... I guess I hit the poor quality most reviewers are talking about

Free DVD player for 3 months.

Complete piece of junk Oritron should be ashamed I will NEVER buy anything even associated with them.

I too had all the same problems and tried to contact Oritron to no avail. Mine however also had a problem with the drawer I had to smack it and it would move about an inch, therefore I would have to smack it several times just to get it open or closed. Finally it just died in the on position, I even unplugged it for a week and when I plugged it back in it was still stuck on......Thank you Earthlink for showing me how important my business is to you!

Plays all the DVDs I've tried (about 30) and was cheap.

I've gotten scared by the reviews thus far, but my player works just fine. I'm waiting to see if it will last a full year. There is a page at http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/oritron_dvd/oritron_dvd-100/oritron_dvd-100.htm which tells you how you can hack it a bit--make it play all regions, skip by the opening warnings, etc. Had I not read the other reviews, I would have recommended it to people. Someone complained that it would not play The Matrix action scenes. I've seen The Matrix on it about five times and it has always been nice. I have not experienced any of the problems that other people have seen.
