Strength:

Flawless playback, nice design well built.

Weakness:

Remote buttons are tiny, Can't play CD-R's, menus are weak, downconverts 96 to 48, have to access menus in order to output DTS, no composite video out, downconverts 96 to 48.

However it is a good value and plays DVD's flawlessly, good first DVD player. Wanted a carousel so I could use it as a CD player, however since I burn many of my own CD's this is an issue. Was going to return it and get another model because I didn't like its weaknesses but having heard so much about other DVD players problems with playback of some disks I decided to keep this. Once DVD-Audio players are available I will by a carousel model.

Strength:

Picture Quality, Simplicity

Weakness:

None that I have noticed

I received this for a Christmas gift and immediately fell in love with it. Now I see what DVD is all about. I don't understand why you would want to spend $500-$1000 for a DVD player, when Panasonic makes a great one for $200+. I love my player and have yet to have any problems with it. The picture, sound and search options get 5 stars all the way!

Strength:

Video playback; access by chapter;

Weakness:

Audio playback

If you're not all that concerned about audio quality, this could be a great choice for you. The video playback is rock solid, looks spectacular, plays anamorphic just fine. BUT, it's no substitute for a decent CD player. Audio from CD's and DVD's is thin, and lacks bass punch. (No, I'm not a headbanger who wants the bass piled on thick; I mostly play classical, and this DVD player just doesn't reproduce bass very well.)

Strength:

Easy setup

Weakness:

No coax and RCA jacks for Dolby Digital

I got this player a month ago for $199. I am happy with it so far. have seen approx 15 movies on it, picture is great thru S video and sound is good thru optical out. I have not compared it to other DVD's but it works well with my setup (BW600's front, center, rear w/ Paradigm sub)

My only drawback is the lack of component video out when I try to upgrade my TV later on, I will have to upgrade this also.

Strength:

Ease of set-up, use

Weakness:

None so far

Was looking for a good starter dvd and this has everything
you need. The set-up was easy, plug in and play. So far,
the color and sound have been outstanding. Even when it's
time to up-grade this will be a great second dvd for the other TV.

Strength:

Good Remote, Good Price

Weakness:

Panasonic Reputation

I have had an overall good experience with this player so far, but have been reading a lot of bad reviews on Panasonics reliability. So far so good for me though. If it stays together, I would have no problems recommending it to a friend.

Strength:

Very user friendly menu navigation
Any newbie can learn to use this unit
Virtual Surround Sound mode, enhanced center channel volume
Fast disc reads

Weakness:

"No disc" message occurs sometimes
average remote control layout
Tremendous artifacts, color problems with regular coax video cable...S-Video cable STRONGLY RECOMMENDED..in fact a must!
Does not read CDR/CDRW's

Although this unit needed a firmware upgrade from a panasonic service center, it has performed flawlessly ever since the upgrade.

This unit is the same as the 112, and the 120, but the 120 has component video out

Strength:

Great Picture and sound quality. Easy to use remote.

Weakness:

After 1 yr. of use the laser pickup assembly went bad. Estimated repair cost $150-250 to fix. Not happy about that and Panasonic rep. won't return my calls or e-mail?!!

Just hoping this new unit will last longer than the last one. All the reports show this unit is in the top 5 of the US.

Getting ready to buy a whole new DVD player. Guess what, it'll probably be another Panasonic. Most likely the RV31K. Still can't find another unit to match the features for the price! Wish me luck with this one!

Strength:

Excellent Picture Quality-Excellent Digital Sound

Weakness:

Have had problems playing DVDs with DVD-Rom information on them. It seems as though, any DVD that can be played on the computer, will not start up and play-keep getting a "No Disk" message!- Sometimes, after repeated attempts, I can get the disk to play, but it takes a while. The disk must be repeately re-positioned and re-installed, and re-played, before it "may" play.

This is a good DVD player, for the sound, and the picture quality is great!. I just wish that there was not a problem playing DVD-Rom, DVDs.

Strength:

5.1, DTS, Optical Out, S-Video

Weakness:

Remote

This is great player that I received as a gift. I have watched over 20 movies on it and have only had one significant problem. WWF Home Video's Wrestlemania 15 had showed the pixelation and lock up evidence that other people have mentioned in reviews. However, someone told me the Matrix was the ultimate test to see if it plays back without problems, and it worked fine. WWF Home Video has recently recalled the Wrestlemania disc however, so that could have too been the problem.

Digital surround from the optical out is fantastic! However, playback of music cds is a little shady. My Pioneer PDF-507 seems to make the most of collection when sent through my receiver and to the mains.

I would reccomend this player to those of you who want a value priced DVD Player and really want to utilize optical out for digital surround. Save more money and get a good cd player though, cause this is where this machine lacks. The remote has all the necessary features, but is annoying due to its erogonomics.
