Strength:

Good picture, great sound.
Virtual Surround effect.
Supports Dolby Digital/DTS out.
Easy icon-based setup.

Weakness:

Strange pixelization sometimes.

Overall, I've found this to be a great entry-level DVD player, with no problems using most discs (even rentals). However, there have been a couple that have created strange artifacts/pixelization on screen, and sometimes have completely locked up the DVD player. "X-Files" and "What Dreams May Come" come to mind. Panasonic tech support tells me that it's due to the DVD's and not the player.

Remote is easy to use and required for most functions (don't think I've touched the controls on the unit more than twice).

Purchased at Sam's Wholesale Club, for well below MSRP.

My next major purchase will definitely be a Digital/DTS receiver to really hear all I'm missing, and try out the "Dialogue Enhancement" feature.

5 for value, since I got it cheap. 4 for the overall, due to the pixelization (it's annoying). But, again, it's not supposed to be the Cadillac of DVD players, either.

Strength:

easy to use, no difficulties with the player, good picture and sound.

Weakness:

doesn't read cdrs.

i like the player a lot. for about $225 i don't think you can beat it. i tried the toshiba and had problems with it as well as the philips. i've had the panasonic for almost 3 months without problems. i wish that it played cdrs though. also, it seems to me that the virtual surround sound is a waste. the remote is simple and easy to use. good value.

Strength:

Awesome picture; remote; reads discs fast; digital optical output and coaxial output

Weakness:

none to me

the playback is outstanding on this a-115u. the matrix plays very well on it and i have it hooked to my receiver via optical cable and it jams crystal clear. the remote has no light to see in the dark but who cares...it's easy to use...all you do is pop in a movie and it reads it within 5 seconds....i would highly recommend this player to peep who don't care to need component outputs---not a huge difference in picture from s-video [i know, cause i tried it--yawn]. thumbs up on this baby

Strength:

Great Value, easey to setup and use, DTS out

Weakness:

No component video out

Overall this is a good performer in a very good price. You can get them under $200, they have DTS, DD and S-Video out.
However, they do not have component video out, and they are Zone 1 (can not read PAL or DVDs that are not Zone 1).
Good entry level at a good price.

Strength:

Great price, picture and very simple to use.Dolby digital and DTS outputs.Dialogue enhancer.Very quiet.

Weakness:

Doesn't play CDR's.

Best DVD player that i have seen. Have played over 90 DVD movies, and just one problem with WWF Wrestlemania but ive heard that the DVD is being recalled. Play movies around 8 hours a day and no problems. Best DVD player. Menu is very easy to use and the Matrix works just fine nothing bad to say about this product.

Strength:

Good Price, Simple Design, Quiet,

Weakness:

NO digital Coax

Just got mine today, got it on Ubid for $145 bucks, refurb. Played a couple of DVD's I already had for my computer. Image quality is awesome, I can tell the difference between this and my VCR using the same RCA jacks. Wish I had S-Video on my TV. Sounded great on my Pro-logic reciever, excited to hear what it sounds like on a Dolby Digtal Reciever. Remote is ok, but I hate having many remotes in general, always something to lose. Anyways, I am a learner in the Hom theater market, but so far I think this was a good investment.
