Strength:

Virtual Surround Sound. On-screen menu. Quiet machine.

Weakness:

Remote.

I paid 278 for this product and have used with my system:
- Panasonic 32' stereo TV
- Aiwa Dolby Prologic Mini Theater System
- DVD's Life is beautiful, Saving Private Ryan

The Virtual Surround sound plus the Dialogue Enhancer really boost the audio quality from my 2-speaker TV. I can hear the sound of rain or tanks coming from the virtual speakers several feet away from the TV. However, I would need a Dolby Digital system to take advantage of the DD output.

The picture with S-video is great. Wonderful color.

I especially like the on-screen menu. As located at the top of the screen, it lets me to continue watching while adjusting the settings. I can also see all current settings at the first glance without going to each item.
The remote is not good, as others have noticed. It took me several days to learn not to press the wrong buttons.

The overall construction looks cheap and not very interesting. However, this machine is super quiet. I can't hear a sound even when all audio is turned off.

If you don't want to spend lots of money, or you want to enjoy surround sound with only a 2-speaker stereo system, this player is a great candidate.

My Panasonic DVD-A120U will not recognize
certain DVDs. So far, they are the movie "Mystery, Alaska" and Andrea
Bocelli's Sacred Arias. When I try to play them, I get a "No Play" message.
After repeated loading and unloading, I finally got the Bocelli to
work--once. Something is wrong here--BEWARE!

Strength:

Great picture, sound. Quick start-up

Weakness:

none yet

I have this hooked up to my Yamaha RX-V795 and have watched about 10-15 movies in dolby digital and DTS and have not experienced any problems. The sound and picture are both excellent, even without S-video connections, and the 5.1 sound is much better than pro-logic. For $250, I feel it was a good deal, and you can probably get it for less now. I was worried about buying a DVD player because of all the problems, but it seems that everything has been worked out. If you are looking for a DVD player, take a look at this one.

Strength:

The remote is great, nice design

Weakness:

Error correction on DVDs.

I bought this player, and 5 DVDs, they played and sounded great! Out of 10 DVD rentals, only 3 played with out flaw, the smallest scratches or finger prints caused the unit to mis-play, flicker and lose the picture completely. Seems if the unit had a better error correction rate it would not be as badly affected. I was so displeased with the unit I returned it after 10 days and purchased a Toshibia SD-3109, dual drawer player. Now this one I LOVE!!!!!

Strength:

Great picture. Component video outs. Two digital audio outs.

Weakness:

Remote, but you get used to it.

I've only had this unit since Christmas, but I love it. I played a dozen or more rentals with no problems. I got it for $249 delivered, from www.cameraworld.com. I've got a little 27" TV, but the picture is still incredible. I'm running the digital coax out to my Denon AVR-3300 for Dolby Digital and DTS. I have the Energy Take5 speaker system with e-XLS10 subwoofer and this system rocks. I just love technology!

Hello all,It starts like this.My Philips cd went south an I must have a cd player.
I looked hi&low for a good deal(around$300.)with no luck.
I heared an add for fry's saying they have a Panasonic DVD-A120 for $249.
I think that will play my CD's but does it have a digital out for my MUSE model 2?(DtoA)Will it play my cdr's?Well I got it and have 15 days to return it,will I
you ask?Hell no.Does it work with my muse?YES! It makes for a very nice transport
Does it play my cdr's?no,but who cares. The last time I saw this sort of video
quality was some years back on a laserdisk(at the time dvd looked real bad).
Thanks to the Panasonic A120 I've got a great transport an great looking DVD to boot, all for less than $300.Well I've got to go now,so many dvd's so little time.

Strength:

Great Picture and Audio,Multiple A/V outputs,5-speed scan

Weakness:

Lack of Universal Remote, Screen Saver, Zoom feature

Recently purchased this through Value America (could not resist the $199.99 deal after using $100 value dollars). Have it connected to S-Video input on Proscan 27" and Technics Dolby-Pro Receiver w/Polk Audio speakers. Have seen several English and Indian (more than 3hrs playback) without any problem.

The Picture and Audio are great! (what else do you need?). Will soon upgrade to Dolby Digital w/Sub Woofer. The DVD player was worth every penny of $199.99.
