Strength:

Great Video Quality
Remote
Voice Enhancement (Sound)

Weakness:

Slow Chapter Selection

In general this a great DVD player as far as picture quality is concerned. I got as a replacement for a broken A-310, and unfortunately Panasonic eliminated the jog dial on the console making it look cheap. The chapter selection in annoyingly slow. The voice enhancement sound feature comes in handy when you don't have AC-3 decoder.

Strength:

Built in Dolby Digital and DTS Decoders. Great Picture and Sound. Very user friendly and Packed with features.

Weakness:

None sor far.

Bought this player last week because I wanted to have both Dolby Digital and DTS decoders built in.

Connecting it to my Denon AVR-2600 AC3-Ready Receiver was a snap.

Setting the speaker sizes and levels was quite easy and the built in test tone generator enabled me to balance the speakers very easily with a sound level meter.

Played 8 new DVD movies, two of them in DTS. The sound is great on DD and the DTS was very dynamic and clear. The picture quality is sharper with more vivid colors. The 5 speed smooth scan fast forward and reverse is a vast improvement over the early A100. The same for the 5 speed slow motion forward and reverse.

The true test came last night when I watched "The Matrix". There was absolutely no problem with this DVD. The video and DD sound was phenomenal and the layer switch was barely noticeable. In fact, layer switches are not as bothersome on the A320 as they were on the A100, and the A100 played all my 250 or so DVDs without any glitches.

All in all, the A320 is a great DVD player which has all the features that I would want.

Highly Recommended.

Strength:

Quiet operation; easy to use, built in DTS/DD decoders

Weakness:

none

I have used this unit for over a year and have had NO, I repeat NO problems. One reviewer lists four movies which would not play on this unit. I have those four movies and this unit has played them flawlessly. As another reviewer mentioned...sometimes it's the source material. I bought the new release of "Platoon" and had plenty of problems with the DVD. So guess what...I took the time to go back to the place where I purchased the DVD and exchanged it for another copy. I popped it in the DVD player and it worked fine. If a DVD has a problem, get off your butt and bring it back. Also, try taking better care of your DVDs.

The picture quality using the component connection is awesome and the sound via the optical connection is amazing. I would also like to advise some reviewers/buyers to spend a little more time with your owners manual. It's amazes me that a person will spend big bucks on audio/video equipment and not bother to read the manual from front to back. There are many features in this unit which add to the enjoyment of watching movies. Try reading the owners manual and adjust your settings. Most setting can be adjusted in one minute or less.

Message for people reading reviews: I suspect that there is a small group of people out there trying their best to ruin the Panasonic/Technics reputation. They are posting numerous one-star reviews bashing the company and its products. To these idiots I say....find something better to do with your time.

I have a Techinics receiver, Technics tape deck, Panasonic TV and Panasonic DVD player and NONE have ever needed repair. The only reason I get rid of the old stuff is to upgrade and then I pass my old equipment off to family and friends. The equipment continues to work for them

Strength:

Build-in DTS/DD decoders. Reasonable price.

Weakness:

Grainy picture, poor build quality, average sound.

My system is - Audio Alchemy DDS pro transport, QUAD 77 amp,
MSB Link DAC,Yamaha DPL processor with 3 channel amplification DD/DTS ready, Tannoy speakers, Panasonic 27' TV.
I've bought this Panasonic just to try new digital video formats without investing too much money. The game with introduction of new formats still continue and there is no sense to buy 3000-4000$ fancy model which will loose half price after year or two.
So the first impressions were pretty positive - satisfactory picture and sound quality, good screen menus.
Then I noticed (like other guy who gave just 1 star to it)excessive pixelation of the picture. Although my TV is not too big but it's noticeable. Sound is artificial enough (haven't heard more expensive machines) but it seems that it's moved to mid-high frequency zone. Even bass have some metallic taste.
The funniest test I've ever heard was comparison of transport abilities on conventional CD's between Panasonic and AA (I had a crazy idea to get rid of my old AA transport because I need additional space). I fall down on the floor when I heard the noise (I can't call this music)from Panasonic although both were decoded through the same MSB DAC. The sound was super bright and fast and my imagination created a picture of drunken driver who is
rushing along the road, cutting all corners and really doesn't care too much about anything. Really guys I'm not even sure that the most sophisticated anti-jitter filter is able to fix this...
The next test was evaluation of Chesky DAD performance on this machine. Yeah, it really works and this format have big future. Because of the superior level of 'digitation' the sound of DAD on cheap Panasonic transport was decent (some CD's have the same sound or slightly worse using AA).
But after half an hour I heard weird noise from my speakers - something crackling. When I stopped the disc and tried to run again, it refused to do this. Then I noticed the problem some kind what we have w/computers when some application is frozen and the only way is to turn power off and then restart the device. After that DVD-player was sensitive to some of my commands by also refused to play. I've taken the disc off and noticed minor fingerprints in certain area and small amount of dust. After cleaning with the special fluid everything was much better except scratches that left on disc surface as a result of this 'trouble'.
I don't really know how other DVD players are sensitive to disc condition but anyway they shouldn't make any physical damage to the disc...
So I watched several movies on it and it wasn't too bad. I can't say that I'm very disappointed but you get what you pay...
If this device will show itself pretty reliable and won't damage any discs in future I'll agree to give extra star but for now it seems to be average product for affordable price.

Strength:

Built-in DD/DTS Decoder, Intuitive Remote Control, Fast DVD Loading

Weakness:

Cheap Construction, No Progressive Scanning

This DVD Player is very user friendly. The video and audio quality are top notch. The setup for the decoders is fairly intuitive, even though it took me a few days to figure that for the SW to work properly, you need to set the front speakers to "small", so that the lower frequecies will its way to the SW port. Otherwise, this is definitely a good buy and probably the only option for people who is looking for a built-in DTS decoder in a DVD player.

Weakness:

No Complaints as of yet

So far so good, I have had no problems with this unit, and I have watched quite a few movies with it. The Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" DVD that I bought was recorded with DTS, and it sounds excellent through this player.
I like this unit, and picked it up for $399.00 which to me is alot of $$, so I am glad that its running like a champ.
I have always had good luck with Panasonic products, so that had some to do with my selection of brands.

Strength:

Great picture, audio. DTS/AC-3 decoder

Weakness:

Poor remote design

So far I have tested about five DVDs in this unit and all have worked without a hitch. I have watched Speed and Star Trek Insurrection all the way through and was thrilled with the video and (especially) the audio. I popped The Matrix in just to test it out and it worked beautifully.

I was also happy to see that the A320 had some features I didn't think it was supposed to have, including reverse frame-by-frame, parental lockout, and bookmarks. I don't think this player has a zoom function, even though I read somewhere that it did.

I didn't think it was so hard setting up the DTS/AC-3 decoder as it was setting up the speakers. By default, the player assumes you only have right and left speakers. It took 5-10 minutes to figure out how to tell it that I have a full complement of speakers.

Oh, one other feature that I came to appreciate very quickly is the dialog enhancer. The dialog enhancer increases the volume in the center speaker, making it much easier to hear dialog. I noticed a big difference after turning this feature on. I didn't have to keep turning the volume up to hear the dialog and then turning it back down when the big explosions and gun fire started.

Admittedly I am writing this after having the player only a couple of days. If I experience problems I will try to remember to post a follow-up.

Strength:

Meets all my expectations.

Weakness:

Nothing major. I wouldn't mind having a smaller/less bulky remote.

I spent a month comparing features and reviews before buying the Panasonic A320. I bought it at the Wiz because of the reviews on this board (that's why I've come back to contribute a review). I felt like I knew more than those guys because I studied all these reviews.
I've had it for a year and we're very satisfied with it. Colors are bright and sharp even on an 8 year old TV/monitor. Never experienced any skips or freezing, even with dirty and scratched DVD rentals.
