Strength:
Great picture quality
Weakness:
Problems playing audio CD's The is a great value and the DVD's I've rented, about 12 all played without flaws. My biggest complaint is that this unit has major problems playing audio cd's. Many of my cd's will start to play and then the song is skipped and the next song begins. I think that all the error correction was put in for the DVD side of the player. I can take the same CD's and they play flawlessly in my 3 other players. |

The external build quality is very good. In dolby digital the picture and sound are also very good.
Weakness:
Only plays dolbly digital DVDs and Cds. Will not play any other format. This unit was purchased from J and R specifically to play Cd-rs and VCDs. On the display that sat atop the dvd in J and R it clearly said this unit plays the following formats. Dvd / Video CD -VCDs / CDRs. The sales gentleman also said the same, "this unit will play everyting you put in it". Similar Products Used: Earlier model panasonic, toshiba and pioneer dvd players. |

5 disc carousel; price; brand name
Weakness:
Does not play CD-R or CD-RW I purchased this product based on the advices of the saleman. He had indicated that this player will play CD-R and CD-RW and that it is one of the better one on the market. My experience with the player has been far from pleasant. The player is fine if only one disc is loaded, but when the tray is full, the player sometimes got stuck at the open mode and would not withdraw the tray. I had to turn the power off and back on to withdraw the tray. The player also has problems with reading some of the audio CD's. I had to push it a few times for it to recognize and read some of the audio cd's. I now understand why there is a large rebate for this player. It stinks. Do not buy this player. Strength:
good picture, solid digital output, transport is relatively quiet. functional remote. bang for buck.
Weakness:
ugly looking unit and remote. Some detail seems to be lost in the dark scenes. When I first got it, there were troubles with a couple of DVDs not reading correctly, but I think it was mainly condensation on the diode. Only one DVD (xmen) still gives me a little trouble. I heard of other people with different players have the same trouble with xmen so I'll blame it on the disk. Similar Products Used: pioneer dvl900 |

I first bought a Hitachi 5-Disc DVD player. Yuch!! Had nothing but problems. This Panasonic is truely awesome. Works great and plays all movies with no skips or hiccups.
Weakness:
None that I've found so far. Overall, I would recommend this player to anybody needing a 5-Disc player! Similar Products Used: Hitachi 609 |

Strength:
Easy set-up. Skip disc feature (you can replace cd/dvd while 1 is playing)
Weakness:
Haven't had any so far. I initially bought this player to replace my CD player that started refusing to spit out the cd's. I was looking for a multi-disk player (for loading multiple cd's along with DVD capability). This player fits the bill and has had no problems playing CD's or DVD's. I've read a few reviews that this player won't read 2 layer DVD's - in my case that is false. I did have a problem with a copy of Saving Private Ryan but when I got a different copy it played flawlessly. I also haven't had any problems with any other 2 layer DVD's. I have rented a lot of DVD's recently and a lot of them were in pretty poor physical condition (smudges and scratches)and I haven't had any problems playing them (occasionally there may be a nanosecond glitch due the condition of the DVD). Occasionally, I've notice a slight pause when changing from one chapter or another, but what the hay - I've seen this in the theater when changing from reel to reel. Bottom line - for the money spent, this is a excellent player. The only reason that I gave this an overall rating of 4 vs 5 is that nothing, in my opinion, is "Far better than you imagined". The system shows great quality in cabinetry, easy to use and read buttons, and great features for the money. The unit is listed for $399.00, yet can be found alot less for the price I paid it is a great DVD player for the first time buyer to an up grade unit. Although the technology is moving fast and leaning towards firewire, an upgrade is without doudt a future move for me. For now this is a great buy a great DVD and lots of quality to boot. I have always had great success with panasonic products and they seem to last for ever, while all my Sony products I have purchased seemed to be quality they never help up over time.
Weakness:
So far none found. Thank God! The system shows great quality in cabinetry, easy to use and read buttons, and great features for the ($170.00)money. This unit has a great picture and with out doudt a 5 star product for the couch potato to the stock holder. Similar Products Used: Sony |

Strength:
CD Performance, Nice looking unit.
Weakness:
Not ready for prime time, in my opinion. Too many problem playing DVDs. The unit is an ok unit but I wonder if there isn't better out there. From day one, the unit had problems playing DVDs. Usually, the picture would start to break up during playback and the picture would freeze. Eventually, I'd have to turn the player off and back on to reset it. Also, the player will routinely have problems detecting a DVD andy eventually say the disk is unreadable. I've tried cleaning it with CD/DVD cleaners, etc. with no luck. I have several friends who have other brands of players and none of them have had problems as numerous as I've had with this player. Probably 30% of my DVDs had problems playing. The CD side was fine, although the was an extended pause while the unit was "Reading 00---" the disk each time a new CD was played. I no longer have the unit and am looking for a new one (NOT PANASONIC) |
