I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS DVD PLAYER!!. I LOVE PANASONIC PRODUCTS BUT THEY HAVE NOT GOTTEN THEIR DVD ACT TOGETHER YET. THIS PLAYER CANNOT HANDLE LONG DVD'S WITH ACTION. THEY PIXELATE AND BREAKUP. GLADIATOR, TERMINATOR 2, DANCES WITH WOLVES WOULD NOT PLAY PROPERLY. I AM GOING TO RETURN THIS UNIT. IT IS A DISGRACE THAT PANASONIC WOULD RELEASE A DVD PLAYER WITH THESE DRAWBACKS.
IF ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS WATCH MOVIES OF LESS THEN TWO HOURS WITH NO ACTION I GUESS THIS WILL DO. BUT OTHERS SHOULD LOOK ELSEWHERE.

Strength:

Good price at the time of purchase...excellent sound...have not had any of the problems with audio cds described by other reviewers

Weakness:

has a hard time playing anything special edition. dual layer cds are a huge problem with this player. If you want to watch American Beauty or The Mummy, get yourself a different player.

I have always had problems with Panasonic equipment(Technics, etc.) in the past but had decided to give them another go because I like to have matching components. Do not waste your money on this DVD player. I would recommend passing on anything made by Panasonic because they seem to like to add attractive features to their products while skimping on what matters...Really, if your player wont even play every DVD it should, what does it matter if it was relatively inexpensive? For those of you shopping, I have heard good things about Toshibas new line.

Weakness:

Remote is OK; No strobe or Zoom features

When I bought this product I was skeptical about the whole DVD "thing". Needless to say, this was my first DVD player and I was worried that this would be a quick return to the store because of some sort of mechanical flaw. I bought this DVD player after I was able to negotiate with the manager (i.e. talk him down)at Circuit City on one of their Open Box buys so I was not sure if the product would be reliable (although it looked like it was in tip-top condition).

I was wrong...This product is great. I have played a lot of movies in it at this point and I have been nothing but impressed. The sound quality is excellent as is the picture quality. With this player I have turned skeptics into believers about the quality of DVD (namely my mother and grilfriend...and, even, myself). In fact this DVD play puts my cousin's RCA player to shame.

I am not a big fan of the remote as I thought that Panasonic should have made the remote universal. The strobe and zoom stuff noted above would just be icing on the cake; I do not necessarily miss or need them. I am a big fan of the 5-disc capabilities. I definately think that having five is better than one (or in some cases three).

Lastly, and probably the biggest plus, I have had no problems with the DVD mechanically so far, although it should be noted that many other reviewers have written that it does not play burned CDs I have decided not to even try and play them (at the risk of damaging the player). CDs, I have found, play beautifully.

Bottom line: I give this DVD player a ringing endorsement

Weakness:

No major ones so far

I have owned this unit since December and have enjoyed it quite a bit. I've never owned a DVD player so this has been a new experience for me. Picture and sound quality are great. I bought a 27" Panasonic TV at the same time so between the two new units I've pretty much been in heaven. I know there are better units to be had but for the money I feel satisfied with my purchase. The only problem I've encountered has been the occasional "no disc" message when I try to play a DVD. After opening the unit and closing it, the disc begins to play. I just added a new Yamaha HTR 5460 along with two RTS 3 Sound Dynamic speakers for surround. My mains are an old pair of Cerwin Vega D-5's. The sound has become incredible. The Yamaha unit has put the Onkyo Pro Logic unit I had to shame.

Strength:

Price, video quality, construction and it does read VCDs

Weakness:

Won't read CDRs

After extensive research on the internet and recommendation from timefordvd.com, I purchased this unit. I had prior experiences with Panasonics products(VCR and LD) and I've never had any problem with their them. I narrowed it down to Pansonic DVD-RV65 and DVD-RV80, But when Cameraworld.com ran a weekly special + no shipping, I couldn't turn this unit down for the price I've paid ($229.00) and - 50.00 for the rebate. Setup was pretty straight forward, video quality was great although I couldn't use the component hook up. My "old" pro-logic Carver HR-895 only had the S-Video hookup and no problem experienced with video or sound. You really can't loose for $180.00

Strength:

Great picture and sound. Dolby Digital decoder is excellent. Easy to use.

Weakness:

Can't play cd-r's. No zoom

This is an overall excellent DVD player. Best of all, it only costs 300 bucks. The picture with component is super clear and very smooth. Sound is crisp with Dolby digital. You'll never need to go to the theaters again with the right audio system. Great value. Highly recommend it.

Strength:

5 DVD Carousel
Nice Design

Weakness:

Hard to program, unsual command, no zooming, no CD-R,

When I was looking for a DVD I read all about sony, but I decided to go with Panasonic because of it's price and because it was an easy buy. But I most say that somehow I am not totaly happy with this unit. It delivers good sound and video, not crystal like some says, but good. I did'nt realy saw a difference with a VCR if you ask me. Sure when it's an old tape but a new movie on VCR, not far...

The manual are not really helpfull, i tried the "play Mode" where you can choose the scenes to see but it didn't want to set the Disc when I pressed the button, everything freeze. I don't think I made a mistake...

So If you look for a DVD, wait before you buy one, it's never as good as it looks and you have to own a big receiver and Tv set to be able to really enjoy it.

Strength:

physical looks of the player, sound and picture it produces

Weakness:

won't play cdrs and video cds. Also won't play back some dts encoded discs and or older discs or anything with a smudge or scratch

Looks excellent and works reliable on most dvds.
For some reason won't play back dts om some dvds.
Also the instructions and box claim it will plays video cds.
It doesn't.
Good advertising by panasonic but not too good for the consumer.
Would have been five stars based ons its performance with regular cds on which it excels.
If doesn't live up to its own billing of playing other formats as mentioned above.

Strength:

Excellent Picture And Sound

Weakness:

Will not play CD-R music cds.

This machine has a great picture and sound. Has more setup menus than I care for, and the remote could be layed out better.
The only real complaint I have is it's inability to play CD-Rs that I burn on the computer. That means you need a seperate cd player for them. For what this machine cost, it should play just about anything.
