Strength:

CLEAN CRISP SOUND AND PICTURE QUALITY IS GREAT
AND THE PLAYER IS VERY USER FRIENDLY.

Weakness:

HAVE NOT FOUND ANY

OVERALL I COMPARED THIS DVD PLAYER TO OTHERS AND COULD ONLY FIND COOL THINGS THAT MADE ME LIKE IT MORE. WHEN I SPENT THE TIME TO READ THE MANUAL I LEARNED MANY COOL FEATURES THAT I ORIGINALLY WAS NOT INFORMED OF. THE PROGRAMMING OF THE FIVE DISC CHANGER FOR CD'S IS VERY EASY AND SETTING UP ALL YOUR SPEAKER FOR SURROUND SOUND WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITE
FEATURES. IF I WERE TO HAVE THE CHOICE OF BUYING A DVD PLAYER AGAIN I WOULD CHOOSE THIS ONE, HANDS DOWN. DTS ALL THE WAY BABY.

Strength:

See Previous review!

Weakness:

So far does not play video cds and cdr-s.

I must sincerely apologize for my previous review that claimed that this unit would not output DTS.
This unit's factory setting is initially set to off for DTS. The user must go into the setting and manually set the DTS bitstream to yes to output DTS audio signals.
I have now gotten this unit to output DTS.
So far though I have not gotten it to plays video cds.
Has any other owner of this unit been able to play a video cd on this unit?

Strength:

Price, features, convenience of 5-disc changer, built in DD decoder.

Weakness:

Prone to "skipping," won't play CDRs/CDRWs, cannot handle defective (scratched, smudged, etc.) CDs as well as even the cheapest CD players.

The first player delivered to me would skip at the same point on several CDs. These same CDs played fine on every CD player I could find and on one other DVD player. I figured I had a lemon and exchanged it for another one (actually, I would have exchanged it for a Toshiba 5-disc changer, but they were out of stock). The second one works much better, but still skips once on every 10 or so CDs I play on it. Most of the discs that have skipped do have at least a small flaw or defect, but I've observed a skip or two on brand new CDs.

I've played about 15 different DVDs on this player, none have had any problems, and all the advertised features of the player (that I have tried--including the built-in DD-decoding) work fine. The video and sound quality are good.

This player may be a reasonable value for someone who doesn't play CDRs/CDRWs and whose collection of CDs and DVDs are in pristine condition. I can't recommend it however, since it is more prone to skipping on audio CDs than an el-cheapo $20 portable CD player.

A fantastic bargain. Lots of nice features. The colors are very deep, saturated and clean. Marvelously open and deep bass. Quick play and pretty quiet machine. This is just a great player.

Strength:

The rich colors and the sharp, crystal-clear sounds influence even the crudest people to become couch potatoes.

Weakness:

None seen by the naked eye.

I researched extensively to find a DVD that met my needs. The Panasonic DVD-CV50 was the ONLY unit that met all of my needs and other needs that I did not know existed. The CV50 has excellent picture and sound quality, and its bells and whistles outperform most of the other brands for that price range. I can't imagine a unit more capable of showing DVDs at the quality level of the CV50. The 5 disc option is not even needed because the unit sells itself. I was not a huge fan of Panasonic items, but the CV50 may change my mind. I highly recommend the CV50 for anyone that is seriously considering the quality entertainment of DVDs. My first disc was The Perfect Storm. While most DVDs will give you a great look at the ship in The Perfect Storm, the CV50 will place you aboard it.

Another great thing about my purchase of the CV50 was the value. I was able to purchase a unit from dmart for $279 plus $10 S&H (orginally $349 without S&H). Then, after opening the box I realized I had a $50 rebate. So, I purchased my CV50 for a total of $229, saving $120. Not bad for a Purchasing Agent.

Strength:

Crisp clear audio, video

Weakness:

none so far

Excellent DVD and CD player at a little above an entry level price.

I've read many reviews here that helped me make my decision, now it's my turn to write for others.....

Crisp clear audio playing CDs - even thought right now I'm only playing this through my Proscan tv speakers with component video connections(I'm getting a new HT setup but I don't have it yet). It's like listening to my old cds for the first time. I hear all new "details" that I've missed before. I can't wait to hear what it will sound like when I get my new Denon receiver and Klipsch reference speakers.

Playing DVDs the picture and sound is fantastic - even though right now I'm only using component video and audio connections. Clear picture, wonderful colors.

Watched Akira Kurosawa's RAN the other night - excellent!

I also like that it is a 5-disc changer. Overall it's simple and easy to use. The buttons on the remote are small, but usable.

Very, very, highly recommended!

My System:
Proscan PS35160
Monster Video Interlink 400 MarkII interconnects for the audio, for now.
El Cheapo video cable, for now (if the picture looks this good with this cable I can only image what it will look like when I get a good one!).

Strength:

Ease of set-up,nice remote, user friendly on screen commands.
Great sound ,especially on movies

Weakness:

Instruction book is a bit confusing until you decifer it.

Buying over the internet, it took a week to get the dvd by UPS ground , so I was ready to plug and play when it got here.My existing system is 25 years old; 25 watts x 2 channel pioneer reciever,DLK-1 2way fronts,1/4 DLK rears.
I'm building a home theatre system from the ground up starting with the Dvd/cd player so I wasn't expecting what
came out of my old antiquated speakies. The virtual surround
coming from the 2 channels really took me by surprize. The cd sound also blew me away.My next step toward surround sound is a Denon AVR-1801.But for now I'm vitually surrounded with more than I had hoped for!

Strength:

Great sound and video, easy to use and set up

Weakness:

Would prefer the remote be able to control things other than the DVD player

Not being very up on this kind of technology, decided to check out the Consumer Reports recommendation. The first two model (Toshibas) numbers weren't available locally, so went for the 3rd on the list. Believe it was third due to it having a bit higher price than the Toshibas.

Picture and sound are unbelievable compared to our 1 yr old hi fi VCR. Haven't heard sounds like this out of our 20 yr old Pioneer speackers in at least a decade.

ALmost went for an Onkyo, but decided we'd be paying too much for the name based on it having a higer price and fewer features.

Buying through Circuitcity.com with pick up at the local store saved us about $20, and we were able to pick it up immediately.
