Strength:
Nice presence, handy controls, quiet work, good picture and sound (when works). Looks great on the shelf, impressing visitors (when not works).
Weakness:
No international warranty (even on parts). Too delicate mechanically. Do not count on it to work much longer than 1 year. It was bought for me as a gift during travel at Singapore Airport. Apparently seller asked about warranty in Australia promised no problems (or may be it was not "no" in this sentence :-). But anyway - you should always read the fine print :-(. Works very nice for 6 months, basically only problem was stopping on some VCDs. But one beautiful day... you could have guessed: H02 message and drop dead. After visiting service I got to know, that my warranty is only valid in Singapore, despite the same model is sold in Australia. I thought, that may be at least faulty parts are covered, but no way. I paid $50 upfront just to get information, that repair would cost $150 more. I did not repair it. I bought for A$165 Digitrex DVD player (aka APEX, Hiteker) which may be is not so esthetically appalling as RV32, but not only plays every disk flawlessly (all VCD too) with not visible (on my TV) difference in picture quality, but also I have JPEG side show (which I love)! And the best is - if it fails past warranty, then no sweat: I get another one in this price bracket. It was for sure my last adventure with Panasonic. If they would at least took responsibility for faulty parts, I would say their policy is honest. But now I shall support them no longer. Be warned. Similar Products Used: Digitrex GK705 |

fully functions, all features work great
Weakness:
none I've found so far Bought the RV-32K to replace my 3 year old Pioneer. I use it as a CD transport only connected to my A/V receiver optically. Use it as a DVD player connected to my 27" sony tv with component cables. A nice bonus feature I didn't expect is the zoom function. This takes a letterbox format DVD and fits it to a 4:3 tv format by chopping off the edges. It takes a 2.35:1 and converts it to a 1.85:1, approximately. The zoom is great for smaller 27" 1.33:1 tv's, since the 2.35:1 format is hard to see. Otherwise, everything works, including MP3 cd's. This DVD picture looks great. The menus are user friendly. Tis is a DVD player I would expect from one of the world's foremost consumer electronics manufacturers after 5 years of continuous development. I'm not sure how long it will last, but what can you do? Still works after three days
Weakness:
None, other than the flimsy remote. Although I am the owner of a DVD RV32S (the silver colored variant of the black 32K,)this is a cautionary note rather than a bona fide review. This model only came out in, I believe, the latter part of 2002 and all the reviews (including this one) is from people who have owned the unit for a very short time. Yes the unit works well but as for reliability and longevity that has yet to be seen. The unit is substantially cheaper than the model it replaces, the RV 31, which has received awful reviews on this and other sites - often reported as suddenly failing at about 13 months of use. Has Panasonic rectified the problem? Reference to the H failure codes in the back of the RV32 manual give pause for thought. You might want to consider that DVD player sales are currently enjoying a boom time compared to many other components and no electronics company would be willing to stand down from competition to develop the perfect player. A final note - two Sony units owned by friends also developed problems after little more than a year. Consumer DVD players are probably operating near current technical limits and may be inherently fragile. Similar Products Used: None |

Price Sound Quality Ease of Use Decent picture quality
Weakness:
For the price, none Just needed a basic player with decent quailty for MP3/DVD/CD on my second system. Saw this unit was on sale for great prices at both CC and Bestbuy, saw decent reviews here and bought it. Have tried all 3 types of discs in it so far and its great. Picture quality is as good as my 400 DVD kenwood changer (which I consider very good quality), its very easy to use and the audio sounds great, even from MP3s. For the price I honestly think you can't beat it. Similar Products Used: Kenwood Sovereign DV-5050m Pioneer single disc (forget the model) Pioneer DVD-F707 |

simple to use, easy to hook up. the price is excellent. plays cd's, cdr's, dvds and it says dvd-r ( but I have yet to find that out ), remote is chock filled of gadgets. an overall great buy.for someone like me, a casual listener and electronic novice, this will suit your needs
Weakness:
remote buttons too small, and doesn't have a backlight. I am not obsessed like a lot of the reviewers are here, but for me i wanted something basic and that would at least play both DVD's and CD-R's, and MP3 files. it was easy to set up and I specifically put in a CDR of mp3's from country to thrash, and it read them all. the display is clear. the DVD was just as smooth Similar Products Used: sony |

Strength:
Picture quality, sound, remote control, display, no DVD region restrictions, the various 'gadgets' (I like the auto dim function of the display). Considering the price, the built quality is OK, better even than some far more expensive players.
Weakness:
I could mention the somewhat long time to read a DVD but...that's for what we over here call 'mierenneukers' (ant 'lovers', if you catch the meaning ;-) Wanted to purchase a Yamaha DVD player to fit in my Yamaha set (RXV-800RDS/CDX596), but wasn't convinced of the somewhat cheaper players Yamaha offered over here in The Netherlands (S520 & S530) and their LOUSY remotes. So as I already own a Panasonic widescreen TV (TX-28PK20F), I checked out some Panasonic players. At first I got interested in the DVD RA-82. Terrific specs and reviews, but as I checked it out at the stores, I was struck by the -in my opinion- horrible design. Next to it I did find the RV-32, of which I learned the specs & prices earlier too. In contrast to my expectations, the model looked OK enough. Considering the relatively low price (EUR 170, due to taxation we in Europe pay relatively more than lucky North American consumers) together with its design and extras, I was quickly convinced. A fine region free player to fill the timegap toward a good quality & payable DVD recorder... Brought it home & tested is immediately with Lord of the Rings/Fellowship of the Rings DTS/ES extended version DVD and was pleasantly surprised by the picture & sound quality (main speakers Tannoy revolution R2, surround Tannoy revolution R1, Center JBL LX1), together with the customer friendly OSD and easy set up. CD sounded also fine, although less well compared to my Yamaha CD-unit (both are connected to receiver optically). MP3 CD sounded fine too, without hick-ups. Conclusion: a relatively well built player, not too expensive, offering all necessary functions and more than that and, last but not least, great imaging and sound performance. Maximum scores! Simple and functional
Weakness:
None really - (you want proscan for $100?) Basic and very functional unit; well designed remote. I haven't had any skips (CD or DVD). Recently, I've been using the Toslink digi out - no problems there as well. Great for WMAs and MP3s. Mixed WMA/MP3 content on CD-R works too. This is the low-end DVD workhorse of Panasonic. It works as it should, what more do you want? Currently around $100 makes- it a way better deal than the questionable Apexes out there. Similar Products Used: Sony, NAD (CD players) |

Picture is excellent as is sound quality. Sufficient outputs.
Weakness:
Build quality--very light. But for $100 not terrible. This is a very good dvd player for the $$$. Picture is excellent. Set up is very easy as is use. I swear I don't understand the idiots who leave reviews at this site. The last guy who reviewed this product wrote in the "strengths" section of his review: " Cheap - received as gift. Picture quality good. Sound quality good." And then gives the unit 2 stars. What a dope! What the hell do you buy electronics for, especially a dvd player---picture and sound. And both are good yet he still gives it two stars because the unit makes you read the 8 second FBI warning and the remote isn't to his liking. Put the movie on and put the remote down you idiot. God, what a crime making you read a copyright message! So let's basically give this unit a lousy rating because of that. What's worse is it was a gift---talk about ungrateful. Anyway, I digress--back to the review. For a little over $100 don't expect the moon. But this certainly is not a two star product. The bottom line is if this thing lasts 2 years, it is worth it. |

Strength:
Cheap - received as gift. Picture quality good. Sound quality good. Zoom, cinema modes.
Weakness:
Won't fast forward past garbage at beginning of most discs. Major annoyance. Panasonic brand - no longer known for longevity. I had a Panasonic RV30 which died after 18 months. So why do I have another Panasonic? It was a gift. ("Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.") We'll see how long this one lasts. The unit works well so far. Picture quality is good, and there are various "cinema" modes to adjust for variable lighting. The unit has a single-position "zoom" feature which - for some programs - improves the viewing experience if you don't have a widescreen TV. The on-screen displays are an improvement on those of their RV30. So far, I've had no problems with this unit. BUT . . . why does Panasonic insist on putting tiny little buttons on their remote? And why not an illuminated remote? One major peeve: On many discs, the unit will NOT accept commands to skip or fast forward past the copyright/FBI warnings at the front of the disc - so you're stuck wasting time on garbage you don't want to watch. (Insert choice bits of profanity here. MANY choice bits.) If I'd bought the player itself, it would've gone back for this "feature" alone. Similar Products Used: Panasonic RV30 |

DVD playback quality...doesn't skip. Slim attractive design.
Weakness:
Remote and mp3 playback. This DVD Player is very good for the money. First I purchased a Toshiba but found that it skipped on every single rented DVD so I exchanged it for this slightly more expensive player and the Panny has never skipped once playing a DVD! Very decent picture quality and great sound. Lots of useless features but might be valuable for some. The remote sucks in my opinion...it has a crappy square design and crappy buttons that you have to press fairly hard. But it's no big deal. The only one flaw I have noticed so far is that my computer can play an mp3 with fantastic quality but putting the same CD into this thing and it's mp3 converter sucks...skips and low quality. But I only use it for DVD's so it doesn't bother me. Oh yeah, this thing doesn't have progressive scan so those with a digital tv get the higher model.
