Strength:

Image, colours, incredible sound!!! Price too.

Weakness:

Poor construction, but who cares, I want to watch a movie not the player! If you want beauty, you should buy the Sony 360, very nice outside, but mmmmmmmmm, poor image, poor sound, zero reliability.

This is a great mashine. In have never had any trouble with it, and I'm a huge user of it. The sound quality (using it with a HT) is amazing. The image is very clear. Buy it without hesitating.

Strength:

Good picture, good sound, plays CD's, CD-R's, CD-RW's.

Weakness:

Annoying clicking noise when spinning CD/DVD's. Lately, it occasionally does not recognize my audio CD's when the tray closes (says "NO DISC" and ejects).

So far it had been a decent purchase that I don't have any regrets about. If it gets any worse (it's not to bad yet) about not recognizing my audio CD's then I will be unhappy with it. I'm not overdemanding but I definitly expect my audio equipment to perform basic operating functions correctly- if it's entry level or top of the line. I.e. tray opens and closes, recognises the CD formats it's advertised to recognise, etc. for multiple years of owning it.

The remote isn't that bad (or that great). Once you use it for a while you become familiar with it. You can even work it in the dark with about a 20% chance of hitting the wrong button:)

The fast forward and rewind are touchy. You can point the remote directly at the player and hold fast forward and it will just stop fast forwarding on you. You have to release the button and press again. Takes some practice to make it work just average.

However, it does have really good pictue and sound (I don't think I would recognize the difference between this and one costing a couple hundred more), easy menu to work with, it's affordable, and looks pretty good too. I don't know that I would or wouldn't buy it again today with all the other choices out there but, having bought it a year ago after extensive researching, I am pleased with it. If I could reword the 3 star rating I would say "a fair deal for a good product. Picture and sound- 4 stars. Ease of use 3 stars. Reliablility 2 stars.

Strength:

Great relyablitly, plays anything I throw in it. Great Picture and sound.

Weakness:

When switching layers on a DVD it will pause for a split second. The tray/disk kinda rattles when playing disks and changing tracks. A little light, when pressing on buttons, it has a tendency to slide back... but I put my VCR on top of it and it stopped doing that. ;o)

I bought this DVD player (DV-333) before last November, I have been using it just over a year now and have never had any problems with it at all. I have just had a couple annoyances though. When playing disks it tends to be loud at times from the disk spinning up and down and searching tracks. It feels cheap, but it's not! And finnaly the remote is not organized the best and the menu buttons are too close together.

Other than the few annoyances, I LOVE IT! I Highly recomend it as a cheap buy. But if you have the money go for a better system.

Strength:

Excellent value. A DVD player with many features such as Dolby Digital, DTS, CD playability, s-video, component and digital audio outputs. Great picture quality and sound. Easy to use and setup.

Weakness:

The remote isn't great but I'd imagine most folks have some kind of other learning remote they can program. The DV-333 can play loudly sometimes during quiet passages of a movie or CD. Adjusting the volume or your TV or stereo solves that problem.

When I first setup my DV-333 into my stereo I used the standard yellow composite (RCA) video jack. The video quality was better than with VHS and cable but I was expecting more. Some time later I acquired a Monster Cable M1000SV s-video cable and hooked it up to my TV. Upon watching Disneys Dinosaur, I nearly got off my couch and touched the screen to make sure it wasn't real! The picture quality increased 10 fold! Phenominal for a $200 bottom of the line player! I strongly recommend using the s-video or component video jacks with a compatible TV.
Navigating the menus in setup mode are fairly straight forward. The user can choose among turning DTS on or off (Default is off), digital audio on/off, there is a parental lock, many audio choices (language, subtitles etc). Once set, the user shouldn't have to adjust them unless they aquire newer gear (ie better TV).
As mentioned above, the unit quite light and if it's on something smooth, it may slide back when the buttons are pushed hard.
I work in consumer electronics repair and I see very few DV-333 come through the door with problems. It's a strong unit with excellent performance. A true value.

Strength:

Excellent image and sound quality, ease of use, the connectors available (The fact that it has Component video and digital audio connectors of both the coaxial and optical types)

Weakness:

Doesn't feel as sturdy as I'd like

This is an excellent DVD player. It has all of the features I like from it. I have never had a problem with it, except for the day I got it, when I couldn't use DTS (It turns out that DTS output is turned off by default).

It has good picture quality that is definately comparable DVDs in it's price range, and probably higher, too. I can't tell about audio, because I havn't used multiple DVD players on my system to compare, but I think it's definately "good enough."

The one thing I wish they would improve on is weight. It is only like 6 pounds, and that just doesn't feel sturdy enough to me. Nevertheless, it's the picture being looked at, not the DVD player. :-D

I'm giving it 5 stars for value, because I got it at an excellent price (Due to a manufacturer rebate and a Costco sale occuring at the same time).
I'm also giving it 5 stars overall because it a fantastic product. I've never had any major (Or even minor) problems with it; it's always been easy to use.

Strength:

Everything-especially quality and value for the $.

Weakness:

Absolutely nothing.

I want to start off by telling Shawn that if he wants to be assured of quality, he should STOP buying in Sears, and shop in a real audio store. You shouldn't blame all of your problems on the unit, I think you got a dud. If you want to talk about people knowing diddely squat you can at least spell diddely correctly (not diddly....I think you're the diddler.). Another thing, how is it being light a bad thing? It's a DVD player not an Anthem, it shouldn't way too much. This is my parent's unit. I have the Onkyo DV-S555 and for the value the Pioneer beats it. No flaws as far as I'm concerned.

Bang for your Buck. Plays all formats except MP3's. Oh well.

Weakness:

Would like to see a better LCD display. Something a little more informative.

Great product for the price. DVD plays all even CDr's. Something not all DVD players much more in price can do. Quality is also quite good from all the other DVD's I've seen. 2 other friends of mine also own this model and none of us have experienced any problems.

very good picture and sound quality, especially in dts mode

Weakness:

lightweight

i have this unit hooked up to a pioneer vsx-d409 receiver with an optical digital connection, and to a JVC 55-inch rear projection television using the component video connection. this dvd player is my first and i have no bad things to say about it. except that once on every movie, it skips, about half way through the movie. i assume every player does this (changing layers or something?), but it's not very noticable at all. zoom and mp3 playback would be nice, but it's still ovreall a great player, and a great price.
